  1. So as my Dad's 80th birthday has come and gone, whenever he wants to spend some time, I find a way to do it. He can get really busy, but rarely will more than 5 days go by without us talking several times. My father recently finished a co-star role in a student film by an unknown Israeli director - he didn't really want to do it, but we talked, and as it was a very different role (not finding watches in the trash, nor running around nekkie on Everybody Loves Raymond) as the Grandfather to a boy about to be bar mitzvah'ed, he decided to do it. And what a run it's been, especially for a student film. The director nailed this one, and so did my Dad. So far, it's been in 8 film festivals, including NY, and Dad was invited to Israel for it's premier there - although he didn't go because of the turmoil. Next week, there's a festival in La Jolla (just north of San Diego), so he is going down for that. Dad decided to tell them to get a room for me, and to bring me along
  2. I don't have a picture, but here's a description of it. Ouside my front door is a porch standing about 4 feet off the ground. there is latticework on the sides, and a climbing potato bush lives on the east side. I have unsuccessfully tried growing climbing roses on the west, but no soap so far. I have potted plants strewn on the steps leading up, so that they flank the walk to where it empties into the courtyard. Lining the building are hydrangeas, gardenias and orangeflowers (these bloom at night - spilling gentle scents through the window in summer; it's like sleeping in a bed of flowers). I have two hummingbird feeders as well as a squirrel feeder (all the better to torture the cats with), and so many times I can watch them through the windows feeding. There is green grass which is kept really thick, and this trails out to the street. The street is rather large, but it's also the guidance street for incoming planes for the Burbank airport, so I get my fill of watching planes land and take off. I like it here... 3. Lefty, hang in there. Let us know (and all service folk going) what you need. E-mails? Not a problem. Photos of the sky? Again, I'm sure folks can oblige. If I recall correctly, you have a little girl and two boys - and of course their mom. We are here for them, as well. You all are in my prayers, and thank you so very much for responding when the nation calls. many hugs, and huge thank yous from the bottom of my heart- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

  5. There's the issue, right there. In your original post, you say it's not photos, but pix caught by other means. What other means? I would be very hesitant to trust this person again with information of any kind, and recognize that friends sometimes aren't friends...I'd simply not deal with them again, knowing what kind of person they are - someone who can't be trusted. 11. Hey, Jess.. Since this is what I do for a living, I'm gonna say "buy". But maybe not right now. You're ready to buy when you're ready to commit to about 4 years in the same place, or, should things change, it's a desireable enough property to rent out. You're ready to buy when you begin to understand the value of your own place, and willing to handle the expense of it. You're ready to buy when you can find a mortgage that actually deals with your budget, and doesn't make you "house" poor. You're ready to buy when YOU are ready to buy....I can't answer that. What I can do is suggest several things so SEE if you're ready to buy. 1. You talk to a mortgage broker and have them figure the entire monthly mortgage, including taxes, insurance, and a little extra for those broken things. 2. You pay that to yourself for 4 months...meaning, if your rent is $500, but your mortgage payment would be something like $900, you PAY your rent and then set aside the additional $400 and not access it whatsoever, and then pay your other monthly expenses - car, lights, food, jumping, etc....and see if you can live that way, normally, and comfortably. If not, find where you can cut your expenses, and see how that works. If you can live with that final mortgage bill, then you may be ready to buy. Finding out ahead of time that you can handle the bills will do two things: it will lessen the financial fear of the house, and you will not get in over your head just because you can qualify for it. 3. You may want to try #2, and in the same period, fix everything which breaks. Or have Erk fix it. But try to not rely on the landlord while you're experimenting. When you're ready, remember what Anne said about taxes and insurance (in CA the taxes are fixed, and based on the property purchase price, but I don't know what it is where you are). Also remember what Bill said - location is everything, and to buy the smallest, most humble house on a great street in a good neighborhood - with good schools, stable community, etc...you know the ones around you - will allow the maximun return on your investment. Even if you're not thrilled with it, this is not the home you're gonna live in for the rest of your life, and so resale becomes even more important...and there will always be another "you" in five years getting ready to start that adventure we call real estate. And remember. When YOU are ready is when you buy. Not when the realtor is ready, not when your family thinks you are, but when you are. And trying out the above suggestions will determine if you are ready. And then, buy during the slower times of the year - October to February is the slow time. Sellers are more anxious to sell, and the other buyers are waiting for summer to move their families (kids out of school, ect.). And let me know how else I can help - I can find a great realtor in your area if you want, and I'll follow up with them to make sure you're being taken care of. 14. There seems to be tension moving the jumper forward, from the position of the p/c and the canopy, not to mention his body... but I don't know enough about the dynamics of that kind of thing to actually say for sure. 'Twould be interesting to know... Ceils- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  15. Hi, Jerry... Stephen King something something something? Haven't a clue what it is... I'd take a wild guess that no, I wasn't. Ceils- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  16. Stephen King books have been known to come before food in my house...I've been disappointed in some of his stuff, and his early stuff is very different from his stuff in the last 10 years or so. I do really enjoy his world building though - the Gunslinger series especially - seeing characters who played small roles in other books (or family members of characters from other books, in one or two cases) reappear as characters in his short stories and/or the 'Slinger series is fascinating. I do believe I have all of his books, with the exception of perhaps 2 (one of them shall be purchased soon, however). Did I enjoy all of them? Some more than others; all have had value at one time or another. As to his delay between books, don't forget his accident as well as his vision issues. I suspect he's had a delay or two in his production because of these things. OTOH, I've also heard that he uses someone to "ghost" his stuff, although I dunno if that's true or not. Either way, he is one of the very few authors I wait for... Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  17. Hi, Mandy... her website is http://www.geocities.com/~red_unicorn/ Scroll through it - it does have gorgeous poetry, and great story-telling. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~

  19. heheheeee, see, sometimes we women actually ask guys out and don't wait for you to get the clue. No biggie...go and have fun. Why wait? What better place to get to know her than a boring dinner? Over the geology lab table? C'mon, Scott...go, have a ball, and don't keep her waiting for your answer. And Keith, you had the best answer - it is an opportunity to be her first choice next time. (Homer, I'd whack you too, but the guys seem to be doing a good job of it...) 20. Homer, Worse case scenario...you go, have a boring evening with plastic chicken as an entree, but you also get to spend the evening with someone you enjoy with no pressure from either side. What could it hurt? Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  21. Worst Valentines day: Spent it in court getting a restraining order on a very bad choice in boyfriends...but the highlight was watching him get served in the courthouse by a really petite lady sheriff's deputy. He spluttered and spit and cursed and ranted and raved (I swear I heard him growl, too) and he had to walk away, 'cause she had a gun and was standing right next to me.
  22. Kewlio. Will do, Sharkie. Once I know for sure I can get there. 'Twould be fun! Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  23. No issue, Quade...besides, you were confirming what I posted as I thought I'd heard about the van. Ciels- Michele ~Do Angels keep the dreams we seek While our hearts lie bleeding?~
  24. heheheheeeee...uh, no. I don't like the van (I know, I must be the only woman on earth who says that). Can't exit stable. Besides, I don't think the van runs on weekdays in Feb. And I could've sworn it blew an engine, and it's not up. I could be totally wrong about that though... Been thinking I should head over the hill. Maybe I can go that day, and in a light stress environment, play in the sky with you. Not sure about finances and/or schedule, but it's something we should talk about next week...
