  1. Hee, hee I've been working on a freefall table (modeling freefall with drag, no wing suit) but ran into some touble. Haven't had time to figure it out but I will. Trying to do one for wingsuits I believe would be very difficult.

    Math help

No, first I used a formula to calculate speed (no distance variable in speed formula). Then I used that speed to calculate distance. That's why I say the distance should be off if the speeds are off. Yes, force due to drag = 0.5CdArowv^2 Cd = coefficient of drag, A = frontal area, row = air density There is a tab on the excel sheet labeled formulas. It shows all the formulas I used.

    Math help

I've used those speeds to calculate distance. First I used the speed to calculate the acceleration with the acceleration due to drag incorporated then I used that actual acceleration to calculate distance. d=0.5at^2. If the speed was off then the distances would be too. At t=0sec but then decreases from then on out in proportion to the square of the velocity. Yup, got it. I got 38.1 This is where it starts to go off, I got 51.6 I get 61.1. Hmm, any help with the formulas then if you think that's off?

    Math help

Can someone help!?! I’ve been curious to find out what my velocity and position would be after freefalling a certain amount of time. I want to be a little realistic and include drag forces due to wind resistance. I’ve come up with the following excel spreadsheet but am getting data that just doesn’t seem correct. Does it really take that long to get to 100mph? I’ve made some assumptions such as mass, drag coefficient, air density, and frontal area. I guessed coefficient of drag and area by assuming terminal velocity is between 110 and 115mph (ended up with 111mph). Equation # 6 was solved for v using the quadratic formula, resulting in Equation # 1. Any ideas? Did I do something wrong? Are my assumptions way off? Are these values correct and we just think/feel differently while actually in freefall?
  5. Ok, so I said I would do it. I’ve put up a webpage that has my progression on “Project pBASE”. The initial idea of the site was for friends and family around the world to see where I’m at. Therefore some of it is a bit cheesy and some things are a little oversimplified in order to cater to the whuffos. I’ll update it every time something I feel new or special has come up. Please let me know if you find anything on the site incorrect or if you feel like I’ve missed something that should really be there. http://www.zerop.net/base
  6. Aren't the Reactor rigs velcro? I think you forgot the "V's" after those ones. They don't produce the earlier version rigs? For instance you can no longer get a Prism 1? That's a bummer!
  7. eeeeewwwww!!!!!!! Dat's disgustin'. Bad mental picture.
  8. What would cause that PC oscillation? It looked like it was pulling straight until the canopy started to come out the bag and then it just went all over the place. Could the initial opening shock of the PC contribute to that?
  9. Yup, I wasn't there last weekend but you said the same thing to me days after I got home from a TF trip. This seems to be a pattern. What gives?
  10. I forgot about the cookies! They were great. And the tacos...I've had them! Yum! I'm getting hungry.
  11. He sure knows how to cook doesn't he? Nothing beats a good meal after a few great jumps!
  12. Not BASE related but it reminded me of the time I was teaching scuba classes. I told all my students to meet me at the pool one night. When we got there the pool was gone. They had ripped it out over the weekend. Nothing but a big hole in the ground. I felt pretty stupid!

I sure hope you're referring to bio's and not naked pictures!
  14. I'd love to see it! Do you have video of you getting busted as well?

Hey, missed you at bridge day this year! Hopefully we'll meet up again soon, when my foot heals that is. Thanks for the offer to help out, I'm sure in the future I'll be taking you (and others) up on thier offers to help. I've got a ways still to go but it will get done! I hear you're doing some "B" 's with _____ in _____ in the near future. Have fun, be safe. Russel

Just wanted to let people know that I haven't actually jumped all 4 objects YET! To my understanding the award I received at Bridge Day was more just an honorary title seeing as how I seem to be the first and only paraplegic BASE jumper. Right now I've only jumped bridges but am working on ways to do other objects. Hopefully in the near future it'll happen. I think I'm going to put up a website of my progress in achieving my true BASE number. When I do I'll post it here so you all can take a look. Thanks to everyone for their kind words. Cya, Russel
  17. Don't know, only suggestion...try again a little later. Maybe something was wrong with the server.
  18. Ah ha that was you! I've read your posts here but I didn't put 2 and 2 together when we met at the Holiday Inn but now I know! Thanks man and I'm sure we'll meet again.
  19. See the thread called "BD Bridge Strike Video"
  20. First off does anyone else have any video of my jump I could have? Here's video of my jump for those that didn't see it. I just nicked the bridge with my toes at around two seconds. I let my body swing a bit while hanging on the bar before letting go. I purposely did this so I could release when my legs swung back in hopes of getting better body position in freefall. I guess I put too much swing in it and that is what caused me to move backwards enough to hit the steel below. I broke two bones in my left foot but what the hell I can't feel them anyway and I'm already in a wheelchair. It wasn't a bad break, doc says should be good in about 6 weeks. Here's the video (Windows Media Player, 2.2MB): Clicky
  21. Lots of people to thanks but especially thanks to Jason and the others who fab'd up a bar for me to hang and exit on this year and to Tom for all his help with logistics and coming to pick me up from the ER I had a greast time this year, thanks!!!
  22. I guess I'm the only one at BD this year to break anything, and the frist and only bridge strike at BD. I broke 2 bones in my foot when I hit the steel structure of the bridge in freefall. As Jason said I just nicked it. I'm surprise that's all that happened seeing as how I hit a piece of metal with my foot at about 40mph. (around 2 seconds in freefall). I mentioned to a few others I broke both feet but after more x-rays turns out just the left. Had an awesome BD despite the weather and the break. Thanks to everyone for all the help as usual!
  23. I've been told I just look funny all the time.
  24. I think I'm going to be a total sissy this year and jump in my drysuit. Due to the fact I'm going in the water I figure this will be the only way I won't turn into a popcicle. I may be able to get more than one jump in because I won't be spending the rest of the day trying to get warm. I'm sure going to look silly but oh well! At least this year I won't be jumping a pink canopy like previous years (no offense Anne).
  25. Why would a larger pilot chute make for a slower opening? I've never seen an accuracy canopy up close. What is a t-handle? Can you describe it or maybe a picture? Flew with the right brake set!?! I presume he countered the turn the canopy should have had by using left brake to keep it flying straight. But what about landing? Did he try a right riser, left toggle flare? Not trying to criticize, just curious.
