  1. Uh...doesn't that mean the tailgate is below the slider? Or do you mena down below the mesh but above the grommets? still even if it was below the mesh it could still catch the mesh as the slider came down. I think I'm just not visualizing this properly. I'm at work, I'm tired and I want to go home!
  2. Just to mention... This is a possibility with large hole mesh but not with small hole mesh (so I've been told).
  3. Is there a reason you haven't gone and made a second tailgate attachment point? It's pretty easy to do isn't it? This seems to be the best way of doing it as far as it being more consistent from one pack job to another. (I'm guessing seeing as how I've never used tape.)
  4. That's all a little disturbing...and yet really freakin' funny!
  5. Can I be a total ass and just say that here in good ol' Southern California it's about 80 degrees F (~27C) right now. It would be even better if the north winds changed to south but we can't have everything.

    BASE Magazine

Was that the one where the slider hung up for a while? If so, then yes...that was quite interesting!
  7. Does this mean you ended up still on the wall face 150' up? How'd you get down?
  8. WOW! Do we get to see the video of it all? Did you get a chance to try to stall it and back slide it away from the face?
  9. I wondered for a while if he had really even made a jump. I never saw him jump in real life until he followed me down after my 4th or 5th jump. I'd also like to thank Tom (and his wife as well!) for all their help with "Project pBASE" and for all the help I'm sure they'll provide in the future. I too am one that has asked many questions via e-mail and many by phone as well. Thanks!
  10. Uh...yeah! I've done about 100 feet on one once. Never again. I'll stick with my Petzl Ascension's, thanks.
  11. I know this is off the subject of the thread so feel free to split this off. Also, I know the break settings question has been discussed here and on Blinc but I did a search and didn't find my answer, so... Is it true then that the best setup would be to have four brake settings, two for slider up and two for slider down. In other words you’d have a shallow and a deep setting for SU and a shallow and a deep for SD. You’d have a shallower setting for jumping S’s where object strike isn’t very likely and a deeper setting for the rest where object strike is more likely. Did that make sense? Obviously some of these would be site specific but just as a general rule is this true? How many brake settings do most people have?

    Your first year...

Hee, hee.... Can I do it that way next year!?!
  13. Why shallow brakes? I thought you should always use deep brakes when jumping E's or B's due to strike possibilities.
  14. Holy $h*t!! Was that 300 mostly at your local span or was that just a year you where doing the traveling BASE thing? I did my first BASE jump at BD '99....I've only got 10 under my belt 5 years later. Sad, so sad.
  15. Hmm...I don't know. Whatever. Nice!
  16. Is it just me or do those rigs look very wide? What size canopies do you have in there?
  17. Actually you'd be surprised. On a good day where I fly many pilots do several top landings and launches during the day. That is if they're not going cross country. I'd have to say that if you had to pick one sport to do before getting into BASE it would obviously be skydiving not paragliding. But, in my opinion one would make a better BASE jumper initially if they had experience in both skydiving and paragliding. What aspect in life isn't like that though? The more you know the better you are.
  18. Paraglider pilots generally do have more knowledge of winds and weather than the average skydiver. And generally better canopy skills as well (sweeping generalization here). This is due to several factors. One is that each paragliding flight lasts much longer than a skydive so we just get MUCH more time under canopy. Having 50 hours air time paragliding is still considered a novice. If you were to have that same time under canopy skydiving you'd have to have several thousand jumps. Also, paragliders are much more susceptible to collapses due to turbulence and they are a pretty common occurrence. You have to know how to control the wing during these collapses to keep things from getting out of control. The only way to collapse a skydiving canopy is to stall it or fly it through a dust devil. There are downsides though. I'm still trying to get myself used to the fact that I can pull down as hard as I like on my front risers under my BASE canopy. Do that on a PG wing and the next thing you'd be fighting with is trying to re-inflate your leading edge after a huge collapse.
  19. Does this mean you're saying it's ok to use the black rubberbands on the tailgate, just not on the multi? People here on the forums say not to use them for anything and your press release doesn't really say much about the tailgate. Could you clarify that? Thanks!
  20. Nope, but here you go. [url "http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=22392&highlight=black+bands"]Clicky[url]
  21. Oh, you meant the horizontal distance, not vertical.
  22. I tried that recently but found out the formula I was using wouldn't work. I've been meaning to look for the right formula but havent' had time. Maybe I'll try this weekend. If I ever figure it out I'll post my results.
  23. The little brown ones almost the same size as the black ones or the bigger brown ones used more as closing loops for skydiving d-bags? Wow, I'm glad this discussion came up. I was so pleased with myself not long ago about the number of black rubberbands I was able to scrounge up. Time wasted I suppose.
  24. Hmm...I've been using a black rubberband, not cut in half, on my tailgate. Although I only do two wraps. Not a good idea?

    Turkey Boogie!

Hmm, I don't know how a multi is packed. I've never seen someone pack it up close. Is it possible to explain in writing what a PC in tow on the multi locking bands is? If no one was killed I presume then that it was a temporary PC in tow, right?
