  1. Thank you. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  2. There are no aliens. Move along. Nothing to see here. Move along. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  3. According to those members of British Parliament who resigned the day that Blair declared the UK were joining the war, those chemical weapons that Saddam had were way past their use by date, and he had no capability of producing any more after The Gulf Distraction Pt 1. If I could remember the red haired ministers name I would point you to his public statement where he went into some detail about why chemical WMDs were not an issue, how the UK Government and intelligence community were well aware of that, and why he was resigning. Some UK person, help me out here :) TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  4. Mockingbird, you know what? I think I can say I agree on the major points that you hit here. I think we've compromised as much on the murder/war thing as we're ever going to, which is fine by me :) Thanks for talking this out with me and not taking offence to my often annoying tendancy to beat things to death and do so in a manner that tends to piss people off (almost unintentionally)
  5. Heh, yeah I was laughing at a couple of those when I watched it too. LOL actually there's only one low pull on there that resulted in death, a couple that landed in water were low, but mostly I cut out the canopy rides because I didnt want to slow the pace of the movie down, until after Carl vs Mt Chilead. I did steal more than a few ideas from things I've seen on skydivingmovies.com. Yeah, the tracking sucks - I've noticed the PC version lets you start a track faster than my PS2, although it could easily be a case of an old controller and me being crap, but I've noticed that on the PS2 you'll flail for a few seconds before entering freefall - which doesnt seem to occur on the PC version either. Your original video was excellent, I tried to not copy any of your stuff. I'm doing a second one after finding a whole bunch of new places to jump off (using the 10x jump cheat) + something I've not seen on anyone elses videos yet. Is it wrong that when i'm driving around town my 8 year old will now point out buildings that would be jumpable? hurry up and get the new vid out. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  6. I need a 'starve until hunger forces you to open the freezer and attempt extraction of mystery lump encased in freezer-ice, only to discover it was an ice tray - then you successfully extract and eat the half empty, freezer-burned frozen yogurt you bought when you went through your 'ice cream is too unhealthy' phase, until you realized it tasted like crap, and it still tastes like crap, only now it's freezer burned crap' option. Or wouldnt that fit on one line? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  7. Mockingbird, I see what you're saying. You're not seeing what Im saying. I used murder as an extreme example, perhaps too extreme to cleary illustrate what I'm talking about here. "Christ said, "You will know them by their fruits. Not everyone who calls me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name cast out demons, and in your name perform many miracles?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you.'" Christ appears to be talking about those who make a show of their Christianity but are, in fact, not genuine article. " Earlier in the thread Christianity was defined as: parajito: Basic Christian Doctrine you said: "hristians may have to "agree to disagree" about things that are not of major consequence, such as which version of the Bible is the best? Major truths, i.e., the foundations of Christianity, such as the diety of Christ, his resurrection from the dead, the trinity, salvation by the grace of God rather than by our own work, the Bible as being authoritative, the eventual return of Christ, and so on, Chrisitans hold in common. These are teachings that would be extremely hard NOT to understand. The simplest and least complex truths are usually the most important. " According to your rules then our abortionist slaying sons of bitches remain true Christians - sure, they disagree with YOUR version of Christianity. What makes your version a religion any different than theirs? This isnt a right or wrong question, its not moral relativism, its religious relativism, for which there is all the space in the world. (although my personal philosophy is that all morals are merely societal constructs....BS theatre, Walt :) ). Like I said, dont confuse that with what we're discussing here. Right or wrong religously is different than right or wrong morally for the purposes of this argument because even those of us who are not christian have a sense of right and wrong, but not of a Christian God. So anyway, basic precepts of Christianity as listed do not fit the argument that you're making, which is that some Christians are not Christian because they happen to disagree with your version of Christianity a little more than [select any other sect except your own], whom you believe are TRUE christians. And using someone elses example: If members of those other sects (or your own) approve of its fellowship fighting in a war then it is hypocritical to reject the abortionist killers on the same grounds. Just because it is not your war, they are following the words, as written in the bible, in exactly the same manner that Christians justify all their other rules - quoting passages and using an interpretation of that passage. No relativism, plain fact. It simply runs contrary to the model of Christianity that you have built in your head, the one that says 'this is right and Christian' and 'this is wrong and sinful'. As Jesus says "Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself" and "Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions. 2 One man has faith that he may eat all things, but he who is weak eats vegetables only. 3 Let not him who eats regard with contempt him who does not eat, and let not him who does not eat judge him who eats, for God has accepted him. 4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and stand he will, for the Lord is able to make him stand. 5 One man regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind," (Rom. 14:1-5). So it would seem that the Bible also says that its up to God to work out who the real Christians are. But then we have Paul in Corinthians bitching about sexual deviancy and how Christians should judge their spiritual kin - although at this point he was writing to a single church, talking about a single group following a single vision of Christianity, which may well void this inter-denominational quandry we've fallen into. Did that help or are we still talking past each other? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  8. OSOK, I'm an information junkie. I picked up several books and studied them. My DZ gave me some photocopied material for my ground school which I kept, and I read the SIM often. You might want to start with 'The Skydivers Handbook' by Dan Poynter, as it's really easy to find in larger bookstores. My AFF instructors looked it over and gave it the OK, you may want to do something similar with your instructors to make sure they're ok with you taking stuff out of that (for instance, there's a particualr technique in the Poynter book that I was recommended to not do). It really isnt about remembering sequence for me, I can remember a few moves. What I try to do is to program my body to accept new ways of being. Holding a stable box position isnt very natural for me, so I practiced every day until my body 'knew' it. My visualization covers everything from the moment I gear up (inc gear check), the plane ride up, the exit, the dive flow, the canopy ride down and landing, until the moment both feet are on the ground and so is the canopy. I also run through every possible malfunction and my reaction to it. Things are even better now I have my Neptune, as it has a ground training mode so I can be really anal about it:) Psychologically visualization is as good as physically doing something, the only exception is that your muscles do not get a workout or become conditioned by visualization - as a person with limited spare time, limited funds and very few jumps this revelation was very important to me. This might sound overboard to some people, i guess. I'd happily go into details about why I believe it's helped me. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  9. Thanks Bill. I figured it's not going to make the SIM too soon and while the chances are almost negligable of it ever happening I've found it better to never say never :) TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  10. Damn, just after I spent a day posting inflamatory and unthoughtful statements for my own amusement. On the other hand we sold out a show last night, I unvieled my latest 'aquisition' and we made a bunch of people cry and three people in the audience tried to kill me and had to be stopped by security. SCORE!! [ignores slightly uncomfortable in-the-spotlight feeling] I guess Walt is right though, he is one of the evil spirits whose sole purpose in Speakers Corner is to start riots. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  11. Sorry, wasnt attemping a poke. You'd know if I was
  12. Urm...are you referring to 'partial birth abortions'? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  13. US Christianity is an ugly militant beast. By playing the 'pity me' card its members remain radicalized and active, allowing a louder voice than the reality. By mobilizing such a force of politically active 'believers' through fear they have made companies like Disney crumble at the thought of losing money. The utter BS about 'activist judges' completely ignores the background and reality of the current crop of Supreme Court Justices and their absolute lack of 'activism' and absolute adherence to the letter of the law. Hey, if you can't word a brief correctly or rationally thats no ones fault but your own. Almost as funny as watching Lawrence Lessig try to argue for common intellectual property rights. By ignoring the details it's easier to believe that the Courts power be displaced to a position over which they, the believers, have more sway in controlling (votable politicians). Whereas the truth is that the Supreme Court protects the ideals that the country was founded on - and any time that goes against the 'god fearing folk' it's percieved as Satanic (which is the wonderful thing about such a myopic binary religous system of good/evil anyone not for you is obviously controlled by the adversary). Playing victim is something the religous right have done extremely well and its a model that keeps working. Fear is the great motivator. Repeat the lie enough and it will be believed. I'll be in the back dousing myself in gasoline. Again. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  14. No, thats bullshit, you know it. It's no the point of what we're discussing, unless you've truly misunderstood everything I've said so far. Lets go thru this slowly: I'm asking you WHY you reject certain groups of believers, and not others. You respond with 'they do not follow what I believe', you are simply one person. These believers cling to their faith and justify their works with passages from a Book that they believe is the word of God: From the fucked up and amazingly scary psychopaths at www.armyofgod.com - Paul Hill says its ok to shoot abortionists because: "Genesis 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. Numbers 35:33 So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. " Absolute word of God. Are you going to go out there and join him? Will anyone reading this? If not, why not? The Bible is used to justify bigotry on any number of reasons - I dont need to expand on that. Why ignore these passages? Why is it ok to say 'Aids kills FAGS' and the Bible can defend this well enough that the clergy can refuse to give communion to homosexuals, yet I mention a few babykillers getting capped and you reject those men who embrace the very LETTER of the book!? Boggles my mind how you can pick and choose which bits you want to interpret as being important in the 21st Century but can't allow your more committed brethren the same freedom of expression. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  15. This sounds scary as hell but cool, in that 'nature is amazing' sort of way. I'm from the UK where the weather is as apathetic as the population, I clearly remember being in Cheyenne WY and going through my first tornado touchdown and feeling the same way. While this sounds like a crazy question, if you were caught in that would you track out of the storm or simply freefall straight down until you hit clean air? Thanks. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.

  18. GM, apparently. Read the article, it clearly states that the factory is new and was build in 2003 at the earlier. Why? I have no clue whatsoever. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  19. Except the factory was built *after* the invasion :-/. I dont care, opinion polls only show how joe public feels, rather than reflecting the reality of the situation. I'd prefer someone do the right thing even if its unpopular rather than the wrong thing just to boost an approval rating. And I avoid the question again :) TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  20. Thats awesome! Saved me having to type out all the questions in the SIm (which is what I was going to have an army of interested volunteers do for me :) ). Thanks for the link. TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  21. First: I have 20 jumps and know nothing. This post does not intend to give the impression that I know anything at all about skydiving or landing. Second: I am a wrestler and martial artist with over 17 years experience 'bumping'. One of the first skills you learn is to absorb impacts from throws. Like the theory of a PLF you are redirecting the impact energy in a nondestructive way. Third, the traditional PLF seems to have been developed to absorb a straight down landing (same technique used for round canopies), or a landing with only slight movement in any direction. It would appear to me that a traditional PLF would not be the most efficient way to absorb a Ram air parachute landing. The forward movement would seem to make a PLF more dangerous if performed correctly as it would require a 90 degree twist to place the body correctly to 'roll it out' and disperse all the energy well. (of course, this is only true for those times when you still have significant forward movement when landing). In the three time i've not been able to have a gentle landing I've found myself falling back on my other training and dispersing the energy by rolling over my shoulder (like a foward somersault but rolling from right shoulder to left hip). This feels far more comfortable and less impactful than the PLF training that I tried, and (depending on the type of ground - although I've bumped pretty much everywhere while wrestling) seems less likely to break an ankle or twist a knee than a standard PLF w/forward motion. Plus, this is the method I use to absorb impacts that are much greater than landing a canopy with a 2.52:1 glide ratio with 0.8 wingloading on a no wind day, so my muscle memory tends to default to that when it percieves danger. I actually read something similar just a few days ago in The Skydivers Survival Manual (of course, it could have been a joke). I am asking for opinions on PLF techniques and if there are other techniques taught elsewhere. Like I said, so far I've only had to do this 3 times and it was an automatic reaction, they were also my early jumps during AFF. ------disclaimer: I have 20 jumps, I know nothing, even if it may have seemed for a second there that I may have given a different impression. thank you. ------ TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  22. WMD Factory Found!!!! Urm, built in 2003 ?! "Materials found in a warehouse in Mosul could yield an agent capable of "lingering hazards" for those exposed to it, according to a U.S. military spokesman. He said the lab was relatively new, dating from some time after the invasion of Iraq in 2003. " Just in case that little snippet gets lost in the 'IRAQ HAD WMD' shitstorm thats bound to be started by people with an agenda. Oh my God! WMDs! 23. Ok, here's where I disagree, those bombers who have gone on the record believe that they are fighting a war. It isnt done in anger, it's to save the lives of many unborn humans. In their minds THEY are walking a walk that they percieve most pro-life Catholics simply give lip service to. God doesnt have an issue with war, they're fighting one - I only percieve it as murder because I am outside what they believe. The same way I think that the Roman Catholic church breaks several commandments, the same way I think protestants did themselves a huge disservice by ignoring the rest of the Christian Canon. Who, other than your God, has the ability to discern which of you, or your sects are correct? Many have rejected religions you personally do not consider Christian, a Jehovas Witness feels the same about you as you feel about them (ie, not real followers of Christ). I just think that perhaps there needs to be a better definition of Christian, other than the one thats been used so far in this discussion to attempt to understand if the Bible is the Word of God. If it were the Word, wouldnt you imagine that there may be less confusion of its actual meaning? TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
  24. The bombers are murderers period. I don't know of any Christian faith that condones their behavior. They are no better than Islamic extremists who distort their religion and murder in the name of Islam. Right. But according to the definition of Christian used earlier they have every right to consider themselves part of the group. Does the fact they're extremists alter the fact that they justify their behavior using scripture and follow the rules of the book? Just because you, me or a Christian may find it abhorrent, we're still back to 'who gets to decide who is a christian'? and the fact that Christians worship different Gods (capital G) TV's got them images, TV's got them all, nothing's shocking.
