  1. Nah this is closer to normal usually the Sturgeon is closed during samming season mmmmmm sammings That Columbia River Bar can be scary as hell in a big swell. Been there. Lots of mariners lost their lives there. Big ships all the way down to skiffs. When that bar breaks it can take em down no matter how big and powerful. Another bar that has scared me is at the mouth of the Eel River off Eureka CA. Lost some friends on that one. Cooper's body may have been washed downriver past Astoria and out to sea. Some day a drag boat (bottom trawler) may come up with some parachute gear. Nice fish Amazon. Your sailboat? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 2. Jo wrote: Jo, Do some searching on this forum. You are just forgetting stuff from the past. Jerry knew McCoy. It's no new revelation. Why all the drama? Jerry is not going to physically harm you. McCoys survivors can handle spurious claims that he still lives. You aren't going to get sued by anyone. The FBI won't do anything about Knoss and why should they? Just relax and enjoy the ride. No need to elevate your heart rate and blood pressure. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 3. Nice Amazon! Typical days catch I presume. Your turn Jerry. Georger can post some Catfish or Bass. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  4. I am not in the Knoss fan club but I dont think he is trying to imply that he won the Medal of Honor himself. He probably just admires Murphy. Innocent until proven guilty. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  5. He's not banned. He may have just gotten sick of going around in circles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAmcCdvZCDg Hope Jerry comes back. He actually KNEW McCoy. I'd like to see him and Al spar about McCoy. I'd bet on Jerry for a KO before the fourth round. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  6. Is Jerry self exhiled or banned? I dont keep track. I'd like to see him back here, even if just to tell tales of the huge salmon and steelhead he has seen coming up his stream. How about it Jerry? Any 15 lb Steelies, 17 lb Cohos or 35 lb Kings? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

  8. Bob makes some outrageous claims but I dont think he is claiming to be a Medal of Honor recipient. The choice of Duane as the jumper for Norjack is on its face EXTREMELY implausible. It would be like me being on the A list for the upcoming 500 way in Dubai. http://www.dubai500.com/ 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

  12. Lets not forget Bruce's theory (which may have been offered in jest, I'm not sure) that the CIA had a mind control component in the Norjack project which was to convince a multitude of experimental subjects that they were DBC. I'd say if that happened the experiment was a big success. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.

    Point Break

I love Point Break too Beth. I dont care if it has impossibly long freefalls or jumpers talking to each other in freefall. I can see realistic jump videos all day long on YouTube. I get tired of realistic stuff. I just wish Point Break had included a freefall sex scene with Tyler (Lori Petty). I like almost all Hollywood skydiving themed movies including Gypsy Moths, Drop Zone and Cutaway. The Skydvers (directed by Coleman Francis) , however, is pretty bad. Time for a new one. Trouble is that the jump scenes will probably be done with computer special effects. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  14. Al, Given the difficulty of the jump why would a crack operation supervised by "the best in the business" pick Duane Weber as the jumper? That part makes no sense to me when you had people like Ted Braden, Sheridan Peterson or Richard McCoy available. There are parachuting and survival skills needed in a jump like this that ONLY come from lots of experience. Even if Duane trained for a few months he still didn't have the experience needed to do a job like this with a reasonable chance of completing it successfully. Also, who in their right mind would trust a thieving con man with $200,000 in cash? Would you? What do you mean by "radio vectoring"? Can you be more specific? The whole idea of a rigger sewing a special rig shut to prevent tampering is implausible. Riggers have customized indivdually pressed lead seals that they use routinely for this purpose. Anyone can rip a sewn seam and redo it. The riggers lead seal has an identifying mark on it that would not be so easy to tamper with without detection. That's precisely what they are made for. Also, why on earth would a top rigger do some wacky thing like mounting a chest reserve on a jumper's back and require him to reach behind to find the ripcord handle? You just keep digging a deeper hole on this X chute explanation. You still have not explained how a chest reserve could be fastened to the NB6 harness that Cooper donned for the jump. It had no D rings, no secure way to attach a clip on chest reserve. The Pioneer rig that Cooper left on the plane DID have D rings. Also, Cooper had Cossey's bail out rig, a Navy NB6 harness and container with a 28 ft C9 canopy packed inside and a front mounted ripcord handle. Why not use this? Why go for some crazy back mounted reserve configuration that defies common sense and requires hardware that wasnt present on the NB6? Several times I have run into someone at a party who is wowing a crowd with bold tales of military or civilian skydiving that are so full of holes that you just know they are lieing. You usually catch them on a hardware question, not one that marks you as a sceptical jumper but one which will cause them to make up some nonsense answer about the gear. If you are going to go wild on gear explanations why stop with the conventional? I think Cooper's extended bathroom break was to rig up his high pressure Kevlar helium tank to the X container which actually had a balloon in it. Once he deployed the C9 he started the inflation process and let the winds carry him dozens of miles from the aircraft path and far beyond the search perimeters. Now THAT's something that you'd really need a top notch rigger to set up. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  15. Al wrote: Al, you haven't answered my question which was simple. I asked how Cooper could have used the X chute when the NB6 harness had no D rings? Instead you cover your errors with bombastic CAPITALIZED pronouncements. Nobody who was an expert in parachuting would direct that a chest mount reserve be used as the primary chute for a high speed jet jump. That didn't happen in my opinion. You got caught up by your lack of parachute hardware knowledge into making a nonsensical story about Cooper using the X chute (a reserve) as his primary. When busted you say day is night night is day and all sorts of dodgy evasive stuff. You allege that you were the official record keeper of Project Norjack. I can't disprove your claims but I can tell you that you X chute story has cast a dark cloud of doubt. The story is not plausible to people who actually jumped that old stuff (NB6, C9 and chest mount reserves) back in the day. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. 17. Al wrote:The parachutes they were practicing with were all-white silk, military, which the trainer claimed were the over-all best chutes. He did not want to use a sport chute as he didn't think they were as safe for a beginner. He did not use the practice chute for the actual jump. That was a personal chute of the trainer and put in storage for Weber and it had an "X" on it. It was sewn shut so Duane could recognize if anyone had tampered with it. He was to cut the string and use the one with the X. *** Al, The container that had the X and was sewn shut was a chest mount reserve. There was no way to securely attach it to the NB6 harness that Cooper put on. The NB6 did not have D rings. The Pioneer sport harness DID have D rings but Cooper left that one in the plane. Please explain how Cooper used a chest mount reserve for his jump. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  18. I don't care one way or the other, however, you keep promising to leave, but you never do. Let me give you a little hint though. When "threatening" to leave a thread, lover or workplace over some issue, the minute the person make that threat he needs to either follow through with it or forever be known as a person who makes idle threats. Further, the threat only works if people actually care. It's a very bad strategy for attempting to hold on to a person's dignity. Quade is absolutely right about the effect of idle threats in the real world Jamie, but this forum isn't the real world. Half the people posting regularly have threatened to leave forever. You can join their ranks, it's not a huge deal, at least not to me. I've never threatened to leave. I can see the future, just me Quade and a few whuffos. Jumpers are volatile and sooner or later most will hurl an insult that brings them to the attention of our moderator. I'll be here for a long time unless some jumpship suffers engine trouble right after takeoff and the pilot tries a quick turn back to the runway. Jamie, post some info about your Dad's parachute stuff. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  19. Thanks Terry. I thought they were gone from use in emergency bailout and reserve rigs by 71 but I stand corrected. I was jumping my 1951 C9 ripstop main into the late 70s and it was the oldest canopy on the DZ. Was it legal to use surplus twill canopies in bailout rigs in 71? Was the decision that they were non airworthy an FAA decision or just common sense? 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  20. Blevins writes about Sluggo: Robert you are mistaken. Sluggo would be overjoyed to see the case solved. You can have the DBC media spotlight. I am 100 pct sure that it doesn't bother Sluggo. I enjoyed the show even though I disagree with the thesis. It will generate interest and controversy about DBC and in my book that's all good. Although the DBC fire has always burned bright in our eyes, the reality is that it was down to embers in the world outside this forum. You tossed a log on the coals and that's a good thing. My crow is still saying "show me the hinge." He should just remain quiet and let me forget about the bet, but he is a "risk taker". I know you say the hinge is irrelevant, but it's absence would speak to the integrity of the Decoded investigation. Brad Meltzer and I have some things in common, but I think he and/or his crew may spin things. Thats OK in fiction, but not in serious investigative journalism. The show's integrity is "hingeing" on the answer to this "pivotal" inquiry. It's truly amazing how many people believe they know who Cooper was and can come up with "evidence" to support their particular candidate. I wonder if there was a similar phenomena around Jack the Ripper? At least someone is willing to bet $5000 on your story Robert. If it was universally seen as absurd no real money offers would be made for option rights. I know Sheridan Peterson lurks here. Wonder if he saw your show? Would love to read his reaction. 377 2018 marks half a century as a skydiver. Trained by the late Perry Stevens D-51 in 1968.
  21. Hangdiver, can you chime in with your opinion? it’s odd that the ceiling joists are only 2x4s in that hohinge.jpg. it means there must not be much span, otherwise the ceiling would sag in old cheap house though, that was used. (would have to be larger nowadays..2x6, 2x8, 2x10) but the piece of cross bracing between the 2x4s is interesting normally the ceiling joists would be spaced at 16” OC ? (nowadays) but older houses might have had 18” or 24” OC spacing. the spacing there seems more than 16”..more like 24”? It could be estimated using the 2x4 dimension as a reference I wonder if the box is really the framing around the old attic access panel did someone say the access panel was closed off? was this an old access? It’s hard to tell which way the ceiling joists go because the insulation covers anything. Will have to look at the original video some more. 23. See below. If there were hinges why weren't they shown? Kinda reminds me of that scammy live show Geraldo Rivera hosted where they were going to open a safe recovered from the Titanic wreck. Turns out there were National Geographic? photos of the same safe on the bottom of the ocean with the back totally rusted out. They only showed the front on Geraldo's TV show. They had the safe in a tank with live sharks. A real "show". My crow is cackling and cawing. He's been around construction and remodeling too. The carpenters toss him food from their lunch pails. 24. Occam says a trailer buddy vacation is a more likely explanation for the absence than a successful 727 hijacking, parachute jump, rendevous and escape. If Airstreams could talk what sordid tales they'd tell. BTW Snowmman came to the EXACT same conclusion, CRAWL BOARD. Come on Robert, did you see metal hinges? I have a crow ready to cook if there were hinges. The crow watched the video with me, saw the freeze frame of the plywood piece and he isn't stressing at all.
