The problem seems more a factor of your comfort and ability level, and what you want to do. It pisses me off when I see people at my dropzone with 100-250+ jumps, that still can't stand up a landing, even a Sabre2 at 1:1. Then someone who is talented gets ripped on since they are at 1.63 on a Stiletto with 300 jumps, never has a problem landing at 5,300ft, etc.... Jump numbers aren't the indicator, your level of comfort and rate of progression are... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

You are suggesting that it is better to hide in a basement? I never did understand how the French and other countries fall to enemy forces with little or no resistance. By the way, what is the French word for surrender? Ever see Red Dawn? If I was driving my car to the airport and saw a whole bunch of "Communist" paratroopers invading, I would turn around, grab my AR-15, and defend my country. But I guess it is a lot easier for France to surrender and then wait for the American and British forces to do the work for them. If I had a 14-year-old daughter, I would hope that she had the initiative to defend herself than to hide and await death... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

Instead of hiding for however long, why didn't she pick up a rifle and defend herself and her country??? ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

He punched out successfully but the wind blew him right into the aircraft crash site which was now a roaring JP-8 fire. I thought JP-8 was the fuel for the SR-71. JP-4 is what the Air Force uses, JP-5 is what the Navy uses... Peter ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

I think we are talking about different dropzones. The Jeff that I know is a really nice guy, never in a bad mood, and likes to help girls with big racks as much as newbie guys. Just kidding... And as far as the Otter, WHERE IS THE OTTER??? I would also like to invite everyone to the 7th Annual 2002 Mile-Hi Tandem Boogie, which started January 1, and ends December 31, 2002... Yes, the joys of living in Denver... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... -
Just wondering if anyone has messed around with the new releases of Photoshop 7.0 and Premiere 6.5? Are there any significant improvements or additions? ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

I don't think it is a megapixel. I messed around with the two qualities of stills when I first got it. I took a pic of a beer can, of course, on fine, and one on the standard setting. I think the difference was 30% by file size, but couldn't tell a difference at all. In fact, I thought the lower resolution was better when I was blind comparing... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

I got my pin right after I did my first skydive. Since I had to hang around because of winds for a couple days, I talked to enough people, and figured out quite a bit of the "lifestyle" before the winds calmed. Skydiving is the only thing that I think about, my obsession, and the closing pin that is around my neck reminds me at work, school, etc about how much I love it. I think I would rather have someone steal all my possessions, than to lose my pin... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

I didn't post that as being jealous, just as a response that things are just scraping by with the $59 registration and such. I was told that he has 3 flying L-39s, and 3 for parts... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

What would be your dream canopy? (type size color)
konradptr replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
I think that is the factory color scheme for the Arizona Airpeed's Stilettos. The swoop team's are yellow with a black end cell. I am not sure about this, but if you look at the pics of the swoop team on the cover of Parachutist, they are the same ones I saw at Rantoul... Peter ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... -
Are you sure? I am thinking that when I have the PC9, and I want to take a still in memory mode, it seems to be the same size file. I would think that the end result would be the same if you put it in memorystick mode and took a still, versus if you were filming onto tape, and then went back and took a still out of the tape... Don't know, there is soooooo much to learn... Peter ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

Might not be that bad of an idea... Have the "victim" hook their arms in your harness, open your main, have the victim then put his hands in the main risers, cutaway, open your reserve, and you can both land safely under your own canopy... It isn't that hard to save someone's life... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

Re: [freeflir29] Swooping a Spectre - NEW [In reply to] Quote | Reply -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To be sure I'm no expert but if more energy was key to nice landing why would downwinders leave so many with shame-stains on their rigs? I think that you are missing the point. If you are under canopy, brakes released, just hanging in the harness with the wind blowing 15 mph, no matter what direction you turn, you are still going 20 mph under canopy, or whatever the canopy flies at. . You might however be doing 20 mph under the canopy and 5 mph across the ground, or 35 mph across the ground. The canopy doesn't care, it doesn't feel the wind, just like there is no wind when you are in a balloon. Regardless what direction you turn, you are still flying through the air at 20 mph. The reason it is nice to land into the wind if you are a student, is that as you are going forward through the air at 20 mph, the wind is filling the canopy with air at 15 mph, resulting in the 5 mph that you see... Why do downwinders always wreck? Because their canopy is still flying the same, and producing the same amount of lift as the into-the-wind jumper, but his groundspeed is 7 times as high. But again, the canopy doesn't care about that, the two canopies are still producing the same amount of lift, drag, performance, etc... Hope this helps, Peter ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

I guess the way I figure it is that when you watch digital DV on a TV, the resolution is incredible, and there are 30 of those frames per second. (I think). There must be a way to grab that incredible quality frame, and use that as a pic. Not for the everyday stuff, but when you have the Otter banking over your shoulder and stuff like that... When I figure it out, I will post it here for sure... Peter ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

If I wanted the entire fleet of Skydive Arizona planes, I would have gone out to Eloy, (which is closer) and paid $17 a jump instead of $18, and not the $59 registration. There is a reason that Don Kirlin has 6 L-39 Dolphin jets. Paying $59 for shitty bands that nobody wants to listen to, free Miller beer, which is about as tasty as Pabst, and having to rent a golf cart for $40 a day just because everything was so poorly laid-out for the RV camp doesn't sound great. Confirmed means confirmed. I could have gone to Lost Prairie, but I wanted to jump the jet, which was confirmed for several months. I could have taken a trip out to Deland during the convention, for $12 jumps, but I wanted to jump the jet. I could have gone out to Perris again, and jumped there for $14.50, but I wanted to jump the jet. The C130 was cool, but there was nothing there that I couldn't have jumped other than the B412 and C130, if I went out to Eloy. As far as the CASAs go, you can have them, they climb about as quick as a loaded Cessna in Denver... I am not in the loop, but I feel, as many other people feel, that they were lied to and deceived about the jet, just to keep them there. The fax didn't come out for almost two days after it was recieved, hoping that people would stay. And it wasn't announced until a couple hours before it was supposed to arrive. And that would be if it could safely take off and land at Rantoul as it is... So as far as STFU about the jet- NO!!! I spent a lot of time and energy driving out there, thinking about the jet. As happy as I am that I saw all my friends from other DZs, I could just as well have planned trips out there... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

If they get 5000??? They will be lucky to ever get 2500 again... The letter that was posted for the 727 said that "we apoligize that we couldn't enter into a contract, because we are both unable to find an insurance carrier that would cover teh plane and liability, etc..." The problem isn't teh two fatalities earlier in the week, and it isn't the insurance backing out. If insurance was an issue, what was the deal with the C130? Why didn't Don contact their insurance carrier, since they didn't seem to have a problem with allowing a large transport catagory aircraft to carry skydiviers. And the fact that it took two days to get the fax out, and Don knew that it wasn't coming, but waited until a couple hours before it was to arrive just to keep people there??? Also, I was there, and I am a pilot. I really can't imagine that either one of the runways that they were using would be able to safely take off a fully-loaded Boing 727, much less land it. Every vibe that I got from being there was that it was never coming. Confirmed means confirmed, and there was never even a contract signed... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad......

My problem exactly. My parents live on the way from my house to Longmont, so I can stop by and say hi, but also have a good excuse to get out of there quick... Longmont is nearby, and I would have to camp out Saturday night if I went out to Brush... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... -
But if you called the bank and they claim that everything is good on their end, then screw them. The money had to come from somewhere, maybe is was a deposit from an account with numbers similar to your, but the only option that you have now is to enjoy it, or to donate it back to the bank and insist that they take it back, even if they don't want it... Thanks Roland, I think I might take you up on the offer. I've been to Brush a couple times this year, and often go to Calhan also. Brush is much more friendly than Mile-Hi, and everyone there is friendly and laid-back. I was there for the Otter boogie a couple months ago also. The problem that I have is that there aren't too many freeflyers out there, and I can only jump my Birdman suit by myself so many times in a day. I actually did my first AFF jump out there in Brush, since I didn't want to do a tandem first, and Mile-Hi insisted that I do one before AFF. Let me know if there are any more freeflyers out there, I'll make the drive and camp out there over teh weekend... That sucks about Vegas. I took my rigs up there thinking it would be like anywhere else. I knew the area where it was at, so I headed out there, and called for better directions once I got near. The guy that answered the phone started with the speil about tandem this, and tandem that... After about 30 seconds, I was able to jump in and told him that I was an experienced jumper with my own gear, etc... It was funny how they didn't have any open spaces on any loads for the rest of the day.... Funny how that happened... ------------------------------------------ Getting banned isn't that bad...... -

My girlfriend made up this shirt in photoshop, and had a local shop heat-press it into a t-shirt. Thought it was pretty funny, since the parody stemmed from a Saturday, when one KingAir gave 82 tandems the experience of a lifetime. Problem was, as is often the case, that there were about two slots for fun jumpers on every load. But I am sure that the DZO over here at MileHi will appreciate it with his keen sense of humor...
