Seriously!!! It is only just over 2 feet in diameter.... Better hold off on hamburgers leading up to launch day..... Their first astronaut is going to be a crackhead midget woman.... weighing in at 52lbs... hahaha

Do you guys really take the time to burn down whole logs for grilling? That sounds like a complete waste of time if you aren't smoking. Common myth: You have to soak chips in water. Try them dry!

"Drugs and alcohol", letter in June 2011 Parachutist
LongWayToFall replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It is impossible to say exactly what happened, unless the woman from the letter speaks up. It is my guess that it was an honest accident, who knows exactly how communal the community table was. The thing about the letter that bothered me, was the author's attitude regarding positive drug tests for dead jumpers. Just because you test positive, does NOT mean you were high while you were jumping. I do not think high/drunk skydivers are a major issue, at least I cannot say I have ever seen someone noticeably impaired on the plane before. About getting someone high against their wishes as a joke (unless you know them well and they would think it is funny) is NOT cool. Agree 100% with the major ass kicking statements. -
I saw him in person awhile back, before he started doing Tosh.O, and I didn't really like him that much. He wasn't bad though. His show is pretty funny though, I love all the videos he comes up with. On his show he acts like kind of a tough guy, but in person he is sort of a pussy, at least that is what I thought. I'm sure if he was gay he would be the "catcher" if you know what I mean. hahaha

Call Bill and tell him you plan on being there for 2 weeks, and cranking out a bunch of jumps. If there is room in the bunk house, he will probably let you have it for free. If not, the smaller, secondary hanger where the packers hang out is a good spot to crash. Couches, or you could set up a tent inside. I'm sure it won't be a problem to stay on the DZ one way or another. Showers in the bathroom, and microwave in the bunk house lets you stay there easily too. Have fun.

Cool Story. Thanks!

You say to yourself "Self, I ate a steak and had 3 beers. That cost $XX.XX. Add in a decent tip, and place money on the table." It really isn't that hard. Just pay for what you ate. People who think it should be split according to how rich people are, or evenly regardless of who ate more/less, are obviously trying to get something out of it. I have an old friend who used to only throw in the cost of his meal, not tip or tax back when we were in High School. I told him if he did that shit again we wouldn't be going out to eat together, and he started paying his share.

Well, yes. But it can happen. What about the BASE environment? Probably happens there more often. I can assure you I trust my rigger 100%, he is very very experienced. This is more of a "what if", and also because I have heard conflicting information. The PLF idea is a good one, and yes I have practiced them. I have also gotten a chance to use them, since I have been putting a few jumps in on lightnings.... hahaha! I have also done a number of stalls with the rears, they do indeed stall the canopy without much input at all. I have not tried cross controlling with toggle/rear though, I think I might give it a shot on my next jump. I wonder if it would create a flat turn effect of sorts? Considering the brake offers lift AND drag, where the riser really only provides lift. It would be sort of like a turn while the canopy is still directly overhead, if that makes sense. Anyways, thanks for all of the input, this is a good topic.

You obviously didn't watch or pay attention to the game, or you are full of shit. Ryan Clowe IMMEDIATELY knew that it was not icing, and told the refs the same right away. The refs obviously believed him, and KNEW they fucked up, but let the call stand anyways. Want proof? The Sharks should have had like 3 or 4 penalties early on in OT, and they refs SAW them, and let them go. They refs felt bad because they knew they fucked up, and tried to make it up to the Sharks. Whatever though, whats done is done. Having that game end the way it did was some pretty weak shit.

The next nearest jumper is at 25,000? I thought Bill was at 35,000 or something. And those are almost entirely full altitude. I still think Bill has the most freefall. Regardless, that is totally sweet!

when is a hook knife required these days?
LongWayToFall replied to mixedup's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
(a) How do you mean? Is carrying a spare tire in your car a risk in it's own right? Not really. Hook knives are out of the way, and won't just cut things by themselves. (b) Yes there is a chance of dropping it. That is why it is better to carry 2, like most CRW dogs do. On a cord flying around? I don't get what you mean. I wouldn't worry about it, when you get into a situation where you do need a hook knife, it will be pretty clear. -

I think I will make a new thread, I have heard it both ways. I used to think that using only risers was the way to go, but then I heard otherwise. -

As far as I know, knives were never used to cut away the main canopy. Before they had cutaway systems, I believe the reserve was simply deployed alongside the main. You will never get a clear answer regarding the number of mals requiring a hook knife, they are very rare and all are special circumstances. Many jumpers do not carry them, although it is not a bad idea, because there ARE circumstances that may require them. The reasons I carry a hook knife (2 actually) are because I have started to do CREW, which is a skydiving discipline where open canopies are linked together. The chance of entanglement is high, and you just might need a knife to remove some lines that are tangled around you. Besides entanglements, there are only really 2 situations I can think of that really need a knife. The first, is a line over on your reserve. Line overs are rare, and to have one on your reserve is even more rare. Still, it might be wise to cut the line and use your risers/ toggle and riser to flare. The other situation, is if your reserve deploys inside the airplane, and gets tangled with tail or some other object. Your reserve is part of the harness, there is no handle to cut it away like there is on the main, so your only option would be to cut the reserve away with the knife, and deploy your main. When you get into the sport, these sorts of things will be covered in your instruction, don't spend too much time worrying about hook knives. Now hurry up and make a jump! -
How much bullshit can happen in one game? The final goal was the most retarded thing I have ever seen. How does the puck go along the glass and get deflected like it did? Not to mention the fact that the Sharks should have won in regulation, had the refs made the proper call. I am incredibly disappointed right now, not in my team, but in the game in general. If they had won cleanly, I could deal with it, but this? Seriously? This isn't how it should have ended.

FUCK. Going into OT because that stupid ass ref called icing, when it wasn't, and they scored with seconds remaining. If we loose in OT it is going to be the biggest crock of shit ever. COMMON SHARKS!!!!!!!!!!

Don't think so. This is where the Sharks start their 3 game win streak.......

Skydiving: More Regulation vs. Less Regulation
LongWayToFall replied to bertusgeert's topic in The Bonfire
I don't think they want to. It would require a ton of effort to understand and implement decent rules, and so far the USPA can take charge of that end of things by revoking licenses of people who constantly don't obey the rules. What a day it will be when FAA people have to hang out at the DZ and hand out tickets to people for busting minor details. Another point, is that airplanes are capable of killing "innocent" occupants and people on the ground, while skydivers are only really able to kill themselves (or maybe other skydivers). This is the same reason, in my eyes, why the FAA doesn't really regulate, at least in much detail, ultralights, hang gliders, etc etc. -
I think they needed to step it up in the pain delivery department. I agree, they played like trash. Tomorrow will be a new day, and the Sharks will start their 4 game streak.

I never made any mention of "meat missiles", and that is not my point. As you can tell, I am shitty at making arguments. One of my main rules in life, is that if something could possibly cause harm to me or my family, I probably won't be cool with it. If however, you want to do something, and it has nothing to do with me, I'm probably ok with it. The point I am trying to make, is that when you are not wearing a seatbelt it is entirely possible for you to loose control of the vehicle, solely because you aren't belted. IE you bounce out of the seat, and can't grab the wheel anymore. That same scenario could have been prevented, because you stayed in the seat via the belt, and regained control of the car before crashing into something/one. This is a point that nobody has made in the thread yet, and for me personally, changes the ball game. A motorcycle helmet does not carry the same possible scenario, hence why I make the distinction. So as you can see, my argument has nothing to do with missiles. On that same point though, what do you propose to prohibit the motorcycle/rider from being a missile, if that really is a problem in your eyes? I'm pretty sure upthread you mentioned not wearing a belt, in which case you can excuse the last sentence.
