My answer was based primarily the incidental. I know of one crash where the plane was taking off for skydiving operations and the plane crashed on takeoff seriously injuring one skydiver... While I did the Incident Report and submitted it; the injured skydiver was not listed in Non-Fatal Incidents and the reason was - it was an A/C accident. IT consultants-Do you use your own laptop for work?
BIGUN replied to marcandalysse's topic in The Bonfire
Having been in IT Management and having hired independent consultants on many occasion.... all of this can be handled contractually. Some bullet items for clause consideration would be: Services and Compensation Service Level Agreement Payment Terms & Conditions Status as Independent Contractor Standards of Performance Compliance with Law Non-Competition Indemnification Confidentiality, Intellectual Property Rights and Security Right to Audit Notice Choice of Law Remedies Cumulative No Waiver Severability Assignment Survival Entire Agreement It sounds as if your "discussions" need to be reduced to writing [edit: by attorneys]. Both parties should be willing to enter into a formal agreement and then the Rules of Engagement are clearly defined. Reflecting on the year 2007, I've lost some friends and family and had some friends lose friends and family. You may have read this before; but, as we go into 2008, thought it may be a good time to re-surface it. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was. The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled u p everything else He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with an unanimous 'yes.' The professor then produced two glasses of wine from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. 'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, 'I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things; your family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions; things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.' The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff. 'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'There is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you.' 'Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Play another 18. Make another skydive. Do one more run down the ski slope. Watch another sunrise. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first; the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.' One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the wine represented. The professor smiled. I’m glad you asked. It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of glasses of wine with a friend. My question - which doesn't require an answer on here is; "What other things are going on in your world that causes you to sit in the parking lot for an hour driving yourself into a whirlwind of panic _about_ skydiving?" Are you thinking about how much skydiving causes fear or the _other_ things going on in your world? I know that when I have a significant number of other external stressors, skydiving can sometimes add to them... then, there's other times that making just one skydive tends to prioritize the important from the unimportant and actually reduces those external stressors and I get jazzed up about getting more jumps in for the day. If you’d like to make sure your video(s) are seen only by the people you hand-pick, you should set your video to “Private”. Here’s how: Log in and go to “My Videos” (http://youtube.com/my_videos). Click the “Edit Video Info” button beside the video in question. Scroll down to the Broadcast section and select the “Private” option. Be sure to then select the specific contact list you want to see the video. If a list is too large, select the individuals with whom you'd like to share the video. When using lists, always double-check to be sure the contact list you select includes only the people you want to see that video. Check your Contact Lists (http://youtube.com/my_friends). Click the “Update Video Info” button. Source: http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=59208 Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

OK. If it had been in the laserjet family, I would have suggested downloading the Universal Printer Driver (UPD) for Vista. Although, this _may_ help after what you explained to Bolas... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb727037.aspx I should mention that I don't know squat about Ubuntu and am looking at it as a Vista/XP issue. Italy: Court orders couple to name child after saint.
BIGUN replied to jakee's topic in Speakers Corner
I made an assumption based on, "When ordered to change the name, the parents refused and the court ruled the boy would be legally registered as Gregory because he was born on that saint's feast day..." and that I'm doubting there's many Baptists or Protestants on any tribunals in Rome. And, because most of the "Law of the Land" is heralded from the Roman Catholic Church. My favorite part of the article was, "The appeals court ruled against Friday because it recalled the servile savage in Daniel Defoe's novel Robinson Crusoe and because superstitious Italians consider Friday an unlucky day." Corliss Is Really Going To Jump W.O. Parachute

Ah, but here's another way to look at it: statistical risk of death on any given jump. I was under the impression that, in the US, there are roughly 3 million sport skydives made per year, and roughly 30-ish fatalities per year. So that would mean that on any given skydive made in the US, the statistical chance of death would be about 1 in 95,000, give or take. Big difference from 1 in 1,000. See, you're right and he's right. In this discussion, your chances of being one of the members who experiences death is 1:1000; whereas, the probability of dying on any given skydive is 1:95,000.
