  1. Dave is spot on. Let's not throw too many rocks because it 's been a growing issue no matter which party affiliation. And, we need to remember that it was Bush who created the largest monstrosity of our time. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  2. >>Not a good scene for the US government, or those that have commandeered it. No, it's not. It is beyond Orwellian and in a mere 18 years since the Internet GUI's came out; we have let them take it as well. And, it's happening at speeds greater than Moore's Law. Half the government should be dismantled beginning with this DHS "Thing." Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  5. Errr, I dunno, maybe privacy? Trust? Diplomacy? Now what a second, in this day & age... don't we need to understand that our need for security is more important than our right to privacy? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  6. Well, if they haven't done anything wrong; what do they have to worry about? Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  8. The thread subject was: How to make a link "clickable," not how to make something inline. Plus, the Boss gave a whole tutorial on that: See Tutorial Here [inline monkey-tongue.jpg] Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  10. As one who started skydiving during the era of motorcycle helmets and an avid Harley rider... I have been very intrigued with the era of change from the Bell helmet days to the much lighter skydiving-specific helmets to the now new lightweight motorcycle helmets. I have owned several skydiving helmets and motorcycle helmets in recent years and with the new motorcycle helmets becoming so light and so many variations have asked myself why one sport helmet could not be used for both sports. My full face AFX bike helmet does not weigh much more than my full face skydiving helmet. And, with a price variance of the motorcycle helmets being $200-300 cheaper makes one consider, "Why not?" That said, I really don't see why the new motorcycle helmets can't be used for skydiving (barring some that have sharp edges). I will tell you that I'm more impressed with the ECE certified helmets than I am the DOT certified. ECE certified being the requirement for over 50 countries. Some will tell you that if ECE Certified, therefore DOT certified and vice versa; but that is not always true. As well as different testing methodologies. ECE has one important quality control aspect that DOT does not. DOT is a standard by which a helmet can be made and the manufacturer does QC random samplings and the manufacturer certifies the helmets themselves. ECE helmets require an external QC audit of each lot. Having used to own a DZ and had someone showed up with a new age motorcycle helmet that was a light ECE certified helmet can't say that it would have had an effect on my allowing them to jump. Take a look at some of the helmets here: http://www.jafrum.com/Motorcycle-Helmets Take a pic and the specs and talk to those senior jumpers/DZO/S&TA at your DZ. NOTE: My opinion is not necessarily the same as others and may not be the same as your DZO's. So in the end; they have the final say. I would venture to say that we are on the verge of an era of multi-purpose crossover helmets (motorcycle to biking to skiing to skydiving...) On a final note, If your DZO signs off; make sure that you get a helmet that fits properly. No slop in the helmet. 14. I am in the "you can talk about what happened for 50 years camp and its all speculation" camp. Only one person today knows what happened. All the posts and variations of what may have happened don't mean shit from a good grade of peanut butter. I recently served on a Jury in the beginning of June for a week and wound up as foreman. He was not the one who committed the murder, but the alleged accomplice. You can sit here and talk all you want... But, until you've received 39 pages of instructions from a judge and told to follow them to the letter; you will never have any clue as to what happened or what the outcome will be. I will tell you this. One may be guilty; not guilty or not innocent. My opinion in this matter is that neither one of them is innocent; but one of them is dead. And, that is the only fact we have. And, after being in the jury room as foreman in which the first vote was an almost even split... where both sides had good and well thought out discussions; do not be surprised no matter what the verdict. 17. Isn't there some kind of 'Space' stuff somewhere around there too? Ya know.. I should've included that, but my experience with the tour was that it was more for kids these days. And, the Apollo operations room wasn't THE operations room; it was one like it; one floor below. So, I guess it depends on one's flavor. Other than THAT, Mrs. Lincoln---how was the play?! Speakin' of flavor...the space ice cream is worth the cost of admission alone! Sorry, Bro... very disappointing. There is an admissions fee... then, $89.95 for tickets to http://spacecenter.org/attractions/level-9-tour/ Then we get on the tram. Then, we get taken to see the "LIKE" Mission control and the other areas were off limits for the day. *Building availability subject to change based on safety regulation and astronaut training schedules. For $90.00 bucks, we saw a room and were given an apology. No pro-ration. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  19. Skydive Spaceland is a great choice. Good planning. But, instead of heading north to Houston for sight-seeing; consider going south to the gulf. Couple of wildlife preserves, free beaches, lotsa food, etc. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  20. Little confused by the 4,000 foot final check before deployment and then why these two things happen at 1:07 & 1:08 Was there a pitch, then over adrenaline on a hesitation resulting in reserve pull? Many questions. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.

  22. During disasters, truckers are the lifeline of equipment & supplies. During Hurricane Wilma, I had no less than 2,000 trucks at the staging area (West Palm Beach Fairgrounds). I always made sure that one of our kitchen tents was setup not only as a dining hall, but a rec area for the truckers. Games, cards, magazines, Big Screen with lotsa DVD's, etc. Treat them with respect and they will drive through 50 MPH winds to get to the staging area before landfall. Those guys have to put up with so much shit from every angle; dispatchers, wrong information about delivery times, folks lying to them about the truck weight for which they get the fine, stupid drivers, and my favorite is the DOT regs that limit their ability to make more money for more work.etc. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of lazy fucks that can bog you down during a disaster; but 90% of them realize why they're there and just pitch in to help. No charge. On the whole, they're good folks just trying to make a living. At one point, I had a truckload of cots that I'd brought down for forestry and cached on the pavement. My team got focused on setting up the LSA... Turned around for ten minutes and about 30 cots were gone. I went ballistic cause they were for the SAR teams. One of the more respected truckers amongst the truckers whom I'd used many times before came over and asked what was wrong, so I told him. He said go back in the mess tent and have a cup of coffee for a bit. Knowing what was up, I did as suggested. Ten minutes later he came in the tent, grabbed a cup of coffee and sat down next to me. Not only were they returned. There were extras and he said the truckers would be appreciative if we gave any leftover cots to the local Boy Scouts when we left. Nothing but respect for those guys. Even when one of them pisses me off on the road... he gets a pass. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  23. I've never smoked. Never even tried it. Mom on the other hand was a three pack a day smoker. Started when she was twenty and when she turned 60 - just quit. 40 years and just done. We celebrated her 80th birthday last week. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
  24. Ya know... in all fairness, I'm not qualified to discuss the top 50-75% of mentally ill. However, I do work with several Veterans Service Organizations and sit on a couple of boards. Just recently, I gave a seminar on PTSD to employers who have concerns about hiring vets. What I do get concerned about is the blanket approach. In the vet world, those with PTSD who get concealed carry's will IN MOST CASES, get their psychologist's sign-off on the federal form. The blanket approach will do two things for this layer of mental illness. It will, 1) keep them from getting the help they need, or 2) create a group of law-breakers who will lie on the form. For them, guns are a form of control. You take that form of control from them and they will actually do worse. In fact, for most of them you might even call it a pacifier effect. They feel like they can protect their family, friends and others (because they have been trained) from what they have learned is not a world of apple pie & Chevrolet and Sunday walks in the park. and that gives them a sense of calm in a world from which they've become distended. Now, for the other types of mental illness, I really can't speak to that. But, casting a wide net is not a solution. There's folks a lot smarter than you & I about mental illness and politicians do not have the best track record for soliciting guidance from those better than them on matters for which they know not.
