I'm having a neighborhood cocktail party (y'all are invited, of course) and was wondering what would be a good party drink to make (think in bulk). Something festive that everyone would consider trying. Yeah, there will be beer there and all that good stuff, just figured it would be cool to have something "christmasy" (is that a word?) We were never big fans of small dogs..they got under your feet, they yap, etc. Then I rescued our newest dog, a Rat Terrier. OMG! She is a hoot! Super smart, size of a cat with more energy and just as cute as can be. Best of all she is NOT a barker. Has a personality of the other three combined, though I love them with all my heart too. Our way of thinking was...if your gonna get a dog..GET A DOG! Nothing smaller then a large horse would do for us. LOL!! She showed us the error of our ways. FYI.......there are alot of rescue groups on line that are geared towards specific breeds. You have to jump thru alot of hoops to get one, but thats the way it should be considering their past histories. Bobbi A miracle is not defined by an event. A miracle is defined by gratitude.

It really blows my mind when someone will pay hundreds of dollars for a dog. I have seen it time and time again. I have seen it happen also, that the dog that cost a gazillion dollars ups and croaks 6 months later due to this or that. I'm not against a pedigree dog, BUT there are so many dogs out their that need a warm loving home and would do just about anything for you to show their gratitude. It kills me to know that the Humane Society will have dogs housed on Christmas day and kills me even more that they will get an influx of "puppies" about 4 to 5 months after Christmas, because the "present" for lil Timmy keeps peeing in the house. My neighbors have gone thru several pedigree dogs, bought for hundreds of dollars only to get bored with them a month of so later and neglect them. They have left all sorts of dogs out in the rain and I have helped "rescue" two of these dogs. They have gone thru 7 to 10 dogs in the past three years. I have four too!! I have a lab/greyhound; golden/pitbull;aussie shepard; & rat terrier. All rescues. The Rat Terrier (never thought I would like a small dog, though she is NOT yappy, thank gawd) is the newest she wasn't going to stay with me, but she weasled her was into my heart. Walt, Why does one raccoon get a name and the others don't. I think they must feel slighted, thus showing their ornery side, almost like a red headed step child. I had a siamese cat when I was younger. I remember my friends would call on the phone and say, "Why is that baby crying so loud?" I told them that wasn't a baby that was my cat meowing!
