  1. Ok, I really don't think I'm twisting anything around here--our entire disagreement here is about the definition of "life". I'm sorry, but just because it came from you and has your DNA doesn't mean it's not an independent life. I'm really trying to understand that logic, and I'm seriously not trying to be difficult, but under your last statement, if you cloned yourself, let your clone grow up for 20 years, then decided you wanted his kidneys and heart, you don't think it would be wrong to kill him and take them? However, I do agree that we're not going to change anybody's belief here... I believe that life should be protected and is worthy of a chance to survive once it's concieved. Apparently others disagree. Marc P.S. Sinkster- I'm curious as to your proof that the world exists... I've tried for a long time and done a bit of research, and can't seem to find any real evidence...
  2. So instead of your life being dictated by their beliefs, you dictate the life of that unborn baby by *your* beliefs. I'm sure the baby will understand. Would any of you be willing to sacrifice the life of your child so that someone might not have to use a respirator? If it was made legal to start cloning for stem cells, every single baby cloned and killed could have become a new life, and somebody's child... Marc Marc
  3. Hell, if that's all it takes, I've already got some pics of me in women's clothing here... ...I mean, uh, no, I don't. Why would I have pictures like that? Don't mind me... M
  4. "Research cloning would contradict the most fundamental principle of medical ethics -- that no human life should be exploited or extinguished for the benefit of another." It sounds like this is the major point. If this is a religious issue and should not be legislated because of the separation of church and state, then shouldn't we also get rid of any laws involving one human harming another? Theft, rape, murder? Just because the Christian God said "Thou shalt not steal" doesn't mean everybody should believe it. There is a major difference between religion and ethics. You don't have to be Christian to believe that it is wrong to take a life. Granted, my original statement was very general, but my point stands... if you believe that, *unless there is NO way to help both lives*, it's wrong to hurt one innocent person in order to help another, then making a clone of me and killing it for its stem cells is morally wrong. Marc
  5. Dammit! Dammit! Dammit! I drove to Rantoul today after class on the hopes that they would be jumping, as it is 20 minutes away... but nobody was there... and the phone numbers I have for them are disconnected... arrgh... It's kinda like sexual frustration... hmm... skydivial frustration? Is there a term for that? M
  6. Why does this have to be a religious issue? I don't understand how growing a new life for the specific purpose of killing it and using its cells can possibly be a good thing, regardless of how nobly those cells may be used. Does everybody here NOT agree that killing one life to help another is generally a bad thing? And frankly, what does this have to do with Bush's intelligence? Your subject line is a cheap shot that has nothing to do with the article... And I told myself I wouldn't get into these debates on here anymore... Marc
  7. Eep... that's finals week for the U of I... but I might be able to get out. Marc
  8. 0:4:1 Got four RW dives in yesterday, 3 way, 4 way, and two 5 ways. I learned that in order to be any good I have to continue practicing... it's been almost 2 months since I did RW and I wasn't even any good then, but I got rustier. I can't wait until the summer, predictable weather and steady pay... mmm... I figure I probably owe beer for my 5 way. I learned how to do a power dock... so I miss my first slot and end up way high and outside. My slot is to take a sidebody on Jason the DZO. It was my 4th jump of the day and I was starting to regain a bit of confidence, so I dive down to the formation, on a perfect glide path to my slot. I had such a great line, in fact, that I forgot all about momentum, and by the time I realized how fast I was coming, it was too late; I hit Jason (right in the sidebody... too bad I was trying to stop myself and didn't take grips! ) hard enough to funnel the formation and tumble past... I hear the look on his face was priceless! Well, nobody got hurt, and it was about the funniest dive I've been on yet... M
