So i got a samsung, and it works great...the thing i am trying to do is get the settings right. i have it a few feet from where i sit, and the letters look a bit odd....i have tried turning the brightness down and contrast, and they just don't look as 'crisp' as a monitor....any suggestions?

thanks again, everyone!

OK, so I have one final question regarding websites such as newegg and overstock.com....the prices seem to be cheaper than going to best buy.... so what's the catch? would you guys recommend going this route, and if so, what kinds of things should i watch for? thanks for all the help!

I will have to, once I get the HDTV i will use as a monitor, look at what settings work best. As far as distance, I already know this won't be on a desk right in front of me, but a few feet away mounted on a wall. Anyway, thanks for all the input, and DSE, i'd love to read that book.

Awesome. I'll check out the Samsung but i will likely go the Sony route as there's a Sony outlet store not too far from Chicago where you can get large discounts. That's where i got my 60 inch Sony a couple years ago.

Thanks for the input -- very helpful! A couple of things....good to know about the plasmas - LCDs are cheaper anyway, so that's likely the route i'll go. I likely won't use this to watch movies as I have 60 inch with a PS3 attached that I use for that via HDMI. As far as sound, i'll run an optical cable from the computer sound card to a stereo system I have for that purpose. Mainly I was worried for any connectivity issues or maybe other issues that I hadn't considered, but it seems like they work pretty well together. Thanks again for the help!

Hi guys, since all the audio-visual-philes reside here I figured I'd post here... I am going to get a new computer because i need one to work from home. Since i was needing a new one anyway, I want to get a pretty beefy one to also use for gaming and video and photo editing. I was looking into getting a 40-or-so inch plasma or LCD instead of a 'real' computer monitor, and i saw a couple threads on the subject, but some are a few years old so i wanted to get opinions as to how well this works. I know that resolution will be limited compared to a monitor, but what other concerns should i be looking for? I am thinking i'll get a video card with an HDMI output that will make the hooking-up pretty simple. Anything else? Thanks.

i think you can do co-op 2 player over live, but i am not sure if you can do more than 2 players over live co-op (like having 2 on one tv split screen, 2 on the other tv split screen).

I want to save some money first...in about a year, though, I'll probably be looking.

I got it for 360, playing through it with my roommate on co-op. I think CoD is better, but I'll wait to play it online to draw a final conclusion.

I think you have to add 2001: A Space Oddyssey and the Matrix trilogy. Also, no anime on your list....

If graphic quality is something that interests you, check out Macross Zero. I haven't been able to find it in the US, but I'm sure there are other ways of getting it that, for the record, I don't condone or encourage anyway, i have always loved the macross series, and this one, while storywise not as good as macross plus, animation-wise is freakin amazing.

Technically, only the legs of the girls are "on the bus" because the cat legs are in the backpacks. Also, since each girl carries 343 large cats and 2401 small cats, the "girls" must be on the bus carrying the East German Olympic weightlifters team. Well, technically, the question does not specify that the backpacks with the cats are on the bus. It merely states that the girls "have" 7 backpacks each - which could mean just ownership, just possession, or both. Also assuming that the bags are within the bus interior, then the cats are still technically on the bus in the same way that while riding a car you're technically not touching the ground but still on planet earth. Splitting hairs is fun!

Adm William Fallon -- the next Gen Eric Shinseki?
FreeflyChile replied to nerdgirl's topic in Speakers Corner
So what counts as prolonged? -
On my first answer I didn't account for the 7 backpacks so i had 14 + (7^2 x 4) + (7^3 x 4).

Other than the *minor* detail of thousands of dead soldiers, didn't the US generally benefit from World War 2? -
(7x2) + (7^3 X 4) + (7^4 X 4)

me too, which is why i gave up engineering and went into law!
-
oh yeah i saw where my mistake is...oops.
-
ah, then if my math is right, 602

Are the backpacks on the bus with the girls?

Well, I can't because I wasn't born here. Assuming I could, absolutely I would. With your hypothetical, I am assuming that funding is not a problem and so I wouldn't have to make the behind-the-scenes deals with interest groups or any kind of party lines, so if nothing else I would be given the freedom (which no candidate has) to only have to answer to the country at large for my decisions and policies. Besides, as much as I hate how things are run, and as much as I contribute to complaining about things, it'd be hypocritical for me to not to take a stab at it if given the chance.

Why should you learn English if you immigrate to the US?
FreeflyChile replied to BillyVance's topic in Speakers Corner
Is that where you just add an "o" to the end of every english sentence? No, thats Spanish!
