I know what you mean. It is so sad that people don't think through the decision to give an animal as a present. Recently I was looking for a dog at the local shelters. It didn't work out but when I saw all the animals in there my heart just broke. Now I volunteer there whenever I have some extra time. I open up the pens and let the doggies run in the fenced yard. When I moved a few months ago I ended up giving away 75% of what I owned. The local charities thought I was crazy for giving all this cool stuff to them. In the end I was very content with the idea that a family had a fridge, heater, clothes, etc. and I was free from so many burdens. So many people thought I had lost it but I don't feel the need to explain my actions or reasons. Now I am a bum and very content with my lifestyle. I have absolutely no debt and I can move about the country without posessions to slow me down. My dad laughed when he saw that all of my posessions fit into my beetle. In my opinion, a simple life is a good life. I haven't had to sell anything to jump but I have refrained from buying anything new so that I will have money for tickets. There is a balance that is different for each person. For me it is living a simple life bursting with cool experiences and memories.
