Good thing to do is never listen to what you HEARD and listen to what YOU have seen yourself.. Just put what you have HEARD in the database for later reference if necessary. Get your own scoop on the matter. You will find that the people you get the "heard" from are normally blowing things out of scope for personal reasons. Rhino Blue Skies .....

What flight characteristics are important to you in your main canopy?? 1. Openings are important. I don't like to be cracked all the time. I like to be able to influence the openings with the pack job. On my old Triathlon150 I could roll the hell out of the nose and really slow it down. 2. I "require" a fast turning canopy. This is half of the fun for me in the air. The Diablo was great at this. Until I jumped the Crossfire I wondered if I would ever find a 9 cell that could compare. 3. I like to be able to hold in a dive for a good amount of time. The Diablo has the top seat in this one. Then again the crossfire I am jumping is on the Mod list and has high front riser pressure. I am confident that the new crossfire I have on order won't have that problem. 4. I like to be able to get "force" the canopy around the corner quickly without heavy toggle pressure. The Diablo was quick, Xaos not so quick, Crossfire was very quick. Crossfire all around responded very quickly to input and had a bit more difinitive, crisp flight path than the Diablo. 5. Bottom end flair. The Diablo lacked in this as it is a seven cell. It's not made to swoop. The Xaos was kick ass as the bottom end didn't end. And the Crossfire is very nice and stops very well, lots of bottom end flair. 6. I also like a canopy to be able to stay in the air. Diablo didn't really like to stay in the air. Xaos I'm not really sure as I only jumped it twice, it seemed to have a decent glide. The crossfire, I came back from a long spot and DAMN.. I was holding in breaks, staying up longer, had a flatter glide, higher forward speed, than the other canopies that were trying to make it back. It has an amazing glide path. 7. I like a canopy to be relatively stable approaching stall speed. The Diablo was GREAT even the 110 would sink straight down for me. The Xaos felt VERY unstable to me, at stall it would deflate and start dropping you out of the air practically starting the opening sequence all over. It was actually kind of fun. The crossfire suprisingly would not stall for me?? I was damn near sinking straight down? I had the toggles at or below my waist and pushing.. It kept flying? I am going to keep exploring the slow speed flight of the crossfire as I'm not sure how it manages to do it? 8. Basically when I initiate an input on a canopy I like it to be crisp and immediate. I do not like hesitation in canopy feedback. I am wondering what flight characteristics are important to other people? Rhino Blue Skies .....

Considering the people that have jumped and what they have to say about the crossfire2 I think it will sell well. I have one ordered that will be here in 3 weeks. Hook jumped it. Can't think of anyone more qualified to say whether or not this is a bad ass canopy. His comments were in the line of "when I upsize I will definitely consider the crossfire2". And let's remember the crossfires that might or might not have had the defects were not being produced at Icarus's plant. Most people here know that at that moment Icarus was using for some reason "another" manufacturers plant. They aren't any longer and quality control is even better than ever. I can't wait to get my crossfire2 97. I am jumping a crossfire109 that is on the mod list and it is a spectacular canopy. I think the important thing is that everyone learned from the crossfire incident and actions were taken to insure it doesn't happen again. Rhino Blue Skies .....

I have dealt with Simon and Rob at Icarus on a few occasions. I am TOTALLY impressed with the customer service and the time they will spend on the phone answering ALL of your questions. I know Simon quiet well now after a few hour long conversations about the old crossfire, the new crossfire, the fx, the vx. When they do actually talk to you about possible release dates of these new canopies they still try to keep it quiet just in case release is delayed. I knew about the crossfire2 about 2 months ago.. Only then it wasn't the crossfire2, it was possible going to be the ExtremeWx or something? Either way I trust Simon and I appreciate the time he has taken to educate me on the wings that they use, manufacturing, quality control.. So far I have owned 3 new mains.. Triathlon150 "Aerodyne Research" Diablo110 "Aerodyne Research" Xaos98 "Precision Aerodynamics" And I have a Crossfire2 97 on the way., "Icarus" Of these manufacturers I have yet to be treated in a wrong way. They were all professional and very thorough.. Rhino Blue Skies .....

When I still had whuffo issue I had those dreams all the time.. lol J/K Anytime I am jumping allot I have those dreams. Mostly malfunctions. I haven't had any in quiet some time though.. Rhino Blue Skies .....

They aren't going to say that "the" canopy is coming out until they have sufficiently field tested the wing and they know it's safe. Simply put when you called they had not yet reached that point. The difference between the crossfire and crossfire2 probably isn't big enough to get your balls on fire. The original crossfire is a GREAT canopy. I am jumping one that has had the mod and it is a great canopy. Rhino Blue Skies .....

I'd like to hang with you guys too at the convention!! Will Scottie be cookin?? lol Blue Skies .....

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so cool

Companies choose to keep release dates to themselves for a reason. They may have been working on new plane form wing shapes not knowing that they were going to be called what you have just seen. I personally don't think Icarus diserves the flaming that you are giving them right now. Business decisions are made for a reason. I know that not until VERY RECENTLY was the Crossfire2 even named. I am sure that is the case for the others as well.. I to date have nothing but good to say about Icarus and their canopies. Rhino Blue Skies .....

EASY rear riser pressure? If you think the Xaos has easy rear riser pressure you should try the crossfire. One of the small things I didn't like about the Xaos98 at 1.8 I jumped was how much effort it took to bring it around the corner quickly. From what I can gather the Xaos isn't made to ZIP around the corner. It's made to slowly and speedily carve around the corner conserving speed. In any event that LACK of response that I was use to with my Diablo made me question if this was the canopy I was looking for. So here I was looking for a canopy that could compete with the turn rate of my Diablo110 "which nothing could at that point", I tried a crossfire109. This crossfire was on the mod list and had 250+ jumps on it already. I found my canopy is all I can say. It would stay up in the air forever, it would damn near sink in full breaks, and it would round the corner and turn damn near as fast as the Diablo if not as fast. I have a new crossfire2 97 coming soon. I think in order for me to have gotten the performance I wanted out of the Xaos I would have needed to jump an 78 instead of a 98. Because they do fly much bigger than they are. The 98 felt like a 120. I would have gone smaller in the Xaos I am just not ready mentally or experience wise to have an 78 square foot canopy over my head. I do believe that the Xaos is meant to be loaded. You know what I mean.. lol I just think worst case.. Let's use Texas for example, Spaceland.. Just a couple of miles down the road there is an alligator viewing area. If you have a 15 foot piece of safe, fenced in grass can you hitt and stop safely with your current reserve? If you don't hit this spot you are LUNCH. I can hit it with my 143?? parachute jumping You are joking right? If not goto the top of the page under Dropzones and find the one nearest you.. Blue Skies .....

I have a 109 as a main and a pd143 reserve. I will not go any smaller.. The only thing that has me thinking twice about that is the test jumps that hook made with a small main and a big reserve.. So I might goto a 126 but no smaller. Why would anyone want a small ass reserve? Blue Skies .....
