Time to burn some frequent flyer miles... see you soon. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Welcome to CO... oh wait, I only "live" there for tax purposes, in fact I'm not even there now. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

bah... I don't want to hear it! It's been hotter in Manhattan than Eloy this week. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Sweet... I've got an R-Max that's never seen the light of day. Glad it worked out for you. Tell Art I said hi! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

If you just talk to your instructor/spotter ahead of time you won't have a problem going directly to backfly. Tunnelflight profiles are neat but I've never had anyone ever take the time to look me up before I flew. In fact, mine is _way_ out of date now. I guess I'll have to bribe some of my friends to update it. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

and why some people still prefer these over soft links is beyond me... Soft links > Rapide links NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

One way to turn in a sit is to use your lower leg below the knee. If you are in a proper headup position your lower leg should be perpendicular to the relative wind. If you want to turn right then angle your foot/lower leg out grabbing some extra air with the inside (not the front or back mind you) of your shin keeping your left leg perpendicular. This will push you in a clock-wise rotation. This was the first way that I learned in the tunnel and I find it is the most powerful method. edit: just to make it clear that aggiedave is correct in that you should seek a qualified coach with video if you want to learn how to do it "right" NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Anyone using a Sony PC1000 - Happy or not?
mattjw916 replied to petemac's topic in Photography and Video
very happy... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
I'd have to agree as well. I flew in SVCO and SVAZ almost immediately after their respective openings and didn't have any complaints. Except that they didn't let me fly all day for free of course. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Choosing a wind tunnel - what about Flyaway, LV?
mattjw916 replied to georgerussia's topic in Wind Tunnels
If you are going to spend money on tunnel and expect tangible results using your own gear and such then the clear choice is a SV tunnel... period. I'm sure LV is plenty fun to fly (I'd fly it if I was in Vegas just for kicks) but if I want _training_, I'm heading for the best... and that's SVAZ or SVCO IMO. SVO would be next in line with Perris bringing up the rear. My $0.02, take it or leave it... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
hmm... I've been using the Optima since it came out and I never once thought, "hey, this thing is _too_ loud!" Loud is good IMO. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

...but "demo programs" force you to buy all _new_ gear which to the majority of people isn't feasible. I'll stick with Precision canopies for now. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

It also took me what felt like forever to get a stable stand... once I got comfortable in my headup I just started pushing down with my heels and tried feeling where I was going. It also seemed to help when I had someone to look at and concentrate on, that way instead of getting stiff and trying too hard, I just pushed down into a stand and added forward or backward drive to remain relative to the other flier without thinking about it as much. Werd... this sport is dangerous and potentially fatal on every jump. I cringe when I hear people say that it's safer than driving. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

I know some people that would disagree with you on that. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

You can't have it both ways... on one hand you say jump numbers mean nothing and then say I don't know what I'm talking about since I only have 500ish jumps. So, which is it? I can literally fly rings around a lot of people with more than twice as many jumps as me since I have almost 11 hours of tunnel between Perris, AZ, and CO. You know what, who cares, I don't compete and I don't make any money skydiving, I'm a pure fun-jumper. BTW, I'm not agitated at all, you are only listening what you want to hear. Just because your "instructor" has elevetybillion skydives, doesn't mean anything with regard to _your_ ability. My AFF instructors included former world champions and a current member of Airspeed. Does that mean I have some magical talent. Nope. You better keep that ego in check lest you get in over your head and crater. Head over to the incidents forum and you'll find a good example of a "natural" freeflyer that went in with a no-pull at 100ish jumps. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

lol, 3 "Fish" Ave doesn't quite work for you guys? NSCR-2376, SCR-15080 -
I see you missed my point entirely... but I'm not surprised. I wasn't the one claiming to be able to have a solid sit and "pretty good" headdown at 50 jumps. At 50 jumps you don't even know, what you don't know yet about freeflying and its dangers. People with your attitude usually end up being the ones that backslide down the line of flight and then bitch about a close-call under canopy because someone "opened too close to them". Maybe when people are trying to help you, so you don't kill yourself or others, you should try to be a little more open-minded. Talking about headdown at 50 jumps is just plain retarded. Tracking all over the sky is not headdown. I see you also don't have any gear listed... what kind of rig are you doing all these shit-hot freefly jumps in? Is it safe? Can you tell me which rigs are or aren't and why? Have you ever seen someone have a headdown reserve deployment first-hand? I have; it's not pretty. What you dismiss as arrogance is experience talking. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

Hey, if you want to jump a PC... go for it!!! Personally, I like the more modern stuff. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

um yeah, at 52 jumps you're ready for the next VRW comp... Did you ever think about asking? I don't work for SVCO at all and I also don't offer coaching to those whose minds are closed to learning. I'm just offering you some free advice. There are some world-class tunnel coaches/freeflyers there dude, you would be wise to show a more open-minded attitude should you decide to go there. Freeflying is not packing; you can't expect to buy a couple books or a video and think you are going to learn it. The $40 you were about to spend would be better used on jump-tickets and/or coaching. Learning to freefly is a long road and the only way to become proficient is to practice. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
