Soulac - 4Fun SummerBoogie - Freefly/Wingsuit/FS - 23/31 july 2011
BenediktDE replied to mccordia's topic in Wing Suit Flying
This is for sure one of the coolest boogies! The area is great! Wonderful views, easiest heading picking, a great DZ, nice and relaxed organizers, gambas en masse... But take care - the dutch always beat everyone when it comes to parties! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
You now got a lot of ideas how to fly your suit. I would like to talk about your buddy. He flies his suit with full brakes on: he flies rather head high, therefore very slow --> not much lift. Additionally he pulls down his knees below his hips. This again pushes him head high, creates drag and puts the back part of his legwing in the burble of his rig and of the front part of the wing. If he would stretch his legs and lets the suit fly instead of braking you would have a much easier flight with him. The pitch is the key! When trying to understand pitch level, speed and lift it is not a bad idea to have a look at our fixed winged friends. Learn how planes are flown and you learn a lot about your suit as well. Maybe start with the brief but very good tutorial for flight simulators: http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showforum=90 Enjoy! Hot air balloons stolen (austria)

Argh! Biene's balloon? That sucks! Fellow skydivers: Many of these balloon pilots are Skydivers as well and I had great times jumping on a balloon event with them. Have your eyes open! Thank you! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. -
One jumped in swiss and forgot to take my gloves in -18°C in 8k ft. Took me 3 month until the fingers were no longer over-sensitive. I use lookma's swooping gloves. OK for most of the time - still look for the perfect glove in extremely cold conditions. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

How many wingsuit jumps do you have? 32 Dude - nice you had fun and everything worked out ok but please get more experience before doing such stuff. I have about 400 wingsuit jumps and I just start thinking about getting some coaching about flying close to canopies. That might be be "German safety nazi"-style, but sorry - yours sounds like "western cowboy" style. Learn to fly steady with other wingsuits and maybe jump from a balloon with other balloons in the air to get the feeling for speed differences. But please get far more experience and proper coaching. If the tandem pilot has no experience in wingsuit flying he is in my eyes not the one who is able to tell you if it is OK. I've heard tandem masters who were asked if a WS flyer would be allowed to do a flyby and just asked back "Are you able to?" They often have no idea how difficult it is. Sorry, and so you, as it seems! For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.

As said, don't look forward and take your head and chest up for it but stay flat. Try steeper angles and play with different speeds. All this might be a bit easier to learn in a smaller suit. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
