Ever jump with your canopy in backwards?
zoobrothertom replied to MissBuffDiver's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Not me personally, but I was on a load at Raeford back in the early 80's with a guy who accidently hooked his canopy up backwards. Rubin Maldanado and I were going to do some CRW after an RW jump. We broke off and opened close. I swooped around to dock on him when I realized I was looking at the back of the canopy but straight into Rubin's eyes! He was kicking his legs and waving his arms like crazy and yelling at me not to dock. It was funny as hell! At landing, he flared nicely but his forward speed carried him into multiple backwards sumersaults. The only injury was to his pride. -

So, did you get this email? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Thanks Yuri. Rick Harrison sent me a video a while back from the early 80's of a jump off a moving train using hand held rounds. Main in one hand and reserve in the other. I need to double check his letter about the sizes, but the reserve was about a 10' round and the main wasn't much bigger. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Yep, I barely remember my first one, too! Looks like we were there at the same time, 1983 in Freeport. I got #1371 at the convention. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

43 years old, 7 BASE jumps, first one in 1982. Too sporadic a history to put a "number of years." ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Maximum number of skydivers have you seen in a Cessna 182?

How about 4 jumpers + pilot in a C-172! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
I plowed through most of the posts here. Wow, I wished I lived in your world(s) I've been living in Korea for going on 5 years and I've seen almost every bad driver described here... in just the last month!! Imagine a society that historically had comparatively few written rules (when compared to the west). Hell, 25 years ago most of the people here didn't own a car. All the older men, around 35-40 and above (the worst drivers!) taught themselves to drive or learned from a friend. It's kinda like this "If you're not in my social group, #$&% you! Rules, I don't need no stinking written rules. We didn't have them before so I'm not going to follow them now." Okay, I exaggerate just a little... In my travels and living around the world, I've found the Germans (and probably Austrians/Swiss) to be among the finest. Many countries have a large number of good drivers but few of them require as much training as the average German receives. Any thoughts from someone who has been around other parts of Europe and the world? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

What do I do? Not what I went to school for! Spent 9 years out of high school as a soldier (Cobra mechanic/inspector), A&P mechanic, MBA & JD (law school) and now I teach business in S.Korea. Funny how you never know what you're going to be until you are. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

"How the US Military Hurts the Poor And Uneducated"
zoobrothertom replied to a topic in Speakers Corner
You've done nothing, you even avoided my pages of replies. Jebus, we get it, you have no relply. -------------------------------------------------- Actually, what he "gets" is that you are on a one man rampage and he became tired of reading. BTW, just curious, what was your MOS? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!! -
You and I both know that Bush or no Bush, NK would have developed them anyway. Their program never stopped after the Clinton deal. I'm not pointing fingers at either President. I have lived over here (SK) for 5 years and have learned that Mr. Kim is quite the whako Jones'n for a jump in South Korea ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

The only part really in his training we talked about was his PLF training. Something about knees, ass and head, cant remember his "quote" about it but it made me laugh cause he said it at a church function. -------------------------------------------------------- From my Airborne Daze, it was "Balls of feet, calf, thigh, buttucks & pushup muscle." Pushup muscle was your shoulderblades. Try a pushup and you can feel it immediately! I wish I could meet him, too. During my 'daze' in the 82nd at the parachute club, we actually had a bar where the 'barflies' used to hang out. All of them were retired Airborne guys with jumps in WWII, Korea or Vietnam. Good luck getting him out to the DZ! A few beers should give you an evening of war stories. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

B-12s everywhere! (?) That cheesy chest hook knife; just like mine. Aren't they still available today? Never had to use one, I just gave up on them after losing 4 or 5. I keep a Jack in my thigh pocket. Your cheesy grin looks like some old fart that posts here all the time! His avatar?? (edited to add: upon a closer review - Dems not B12s) ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Remember them? My first malfunction was on a student rig with a SOS setup using frapwraps. THE DAMN THING DID NOT RELEASE THE RISERS!! I was actually an up jumper transitioning to squares when this happened. I was jumping a shortlined Stato Cloud that used a diaper instead of a bag. The lines hitched at the diaper and streamered. However, the wind resistance was so little that it did not stand me up. I was face to earth with a streamer above me. When I pulled the SOS/Reserve handle, the risers did not separate but the reserve fired as it should. My Phantom 26 climbed up beside it and managed to clear the main and open anyway. Everyone on the ground thought that my FXC had fired because I pulled my reserve around 1200'. Nope, I beat the "AOD." It was SCARY!! Happened in '83. An outstanding article re: Muslim culture clash
zoobrothertom replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
I have a suggestion. How about both of you go check some history books about the region prior to the introduction of Islam. Center of science, creativity, etc. Perhaps a short writing assignment with a comparison and contrast flavor is in order for both of you. Have fun! -
"Only one country has ever used such a weapon on another country, however." I love it when I hear this one! Study up on a little history and do the math. Using the bomb on Japan actually saved many more hundreds of thousands of lives that it took (if not millions!). Both Japanese and Allied casualties would have been in the millions if the Allies had tried to take Japan with conventional weapons. I have lived and worked in S. Korea for almost 5 years. On a daily basis, the NK press threatens to engulf their enemies in a sea of fire. Again, study a little history of the Korean War and the strategic planning of Senior Kim along with Chinese & Russian participation. It was almost WW III. It will also help you ( or many folks here) understand the historic reasons for the current hesitation of Russia & China. Now back to your regular programming.... ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Dave, checked your bio. I love that baby. Got 4 off it myself 6 or 7 years ago. Have fun!

OV-10 - The SF guys at Ft. Bragg used to jump them occasionally in the early 80's. I know Mark "Fridge" Liepold (sp?) jumped one. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

Here's a recent picture of my girl. She's 17.5 years old! She's a well traveled teenager. She's been to Hawaii and I haven't. Right now we've been living in Korea for 4.5 years. Ya know, it's amazing what a guy'll do for a little pussy... ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
