  1. Orange1 you are a skydiver so you already take the road less traveled. There are always exceptions to the rule. If I was to tell anyone about the things I remember as an infant and possibly before, I would have been in the loony bin a long time ago. Not that that's a bad thing... I just have some, let's say interesting, memories that I've had since my earliest awareness in this life. I have always questioned as to whether these memories are real or false recall. My logical mind says false recall but the whimsical mind wants it to be real. This is when I subscribe to Occum's razor. As I age I realize what strange creatures humans are and how faulty our memories can be. With that being said, I need to see hard evidence to back up any claims someone spouts about remembering an event. Everyone obviously has a unique perspective to any event they witnessed and someone was certainly the Dan Cooper character. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  2. Well CaretakerAl, posting on DZ is not STFU is it? I think you wasted your money on an attorney. And I see you blowing your own horn before the parade. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  3. I also have memories of my early childhood. I can distinctly remember my first birthday. One of my uncles gave me a toy truck. That truck was a semi tractor/trailer. I can remember opening the doors on the van trailer and smelling that wonderful smell of the new, probably, lead paint. I was born very close to christmas so I also remember the tree along with that christmas tree smell. I have other memories that have been verified from two years to three years old. I also have memories from earlier in my infancy but I have always viewed them as highly unreliable but they are still memories as far as my brain knows. As Orange1 has shown our memories are malleable. So if I suspect my own memory, I am going to highly suspect other peoples memories as well. Back to Cooper...Occam's razor tells me Cooper cratered. Where(not were Jo)is the real question and possibly the most important fact that is still missing to this day because of the unreliable memories and conflicting reports of those involved as to where(not were Jo)he exited the aircraft. If the exit point is known we would at least know which haystack to look for the needle. Apparently it's not too far from the money find. My bet is Cooper found water on impact, I know, statistically it's more probable he hit terra firma but as a jumper I have seen many unlikely probabilities so you can throw the stats out the window with Cooper. 4. I just gotta say...this thread is one of the greatest reality soap operas on the intertubes...if not the...greatest... My dad was DB Cooper...(if you're old enough to remember To Tell The Truth) and I'll tell ya why...he did jump out of airplanes and he was alive in 1971 and had a receding hairline and we were poor...because he lost the money...and there's my proof... just joking...well about him being Cooper... but isn't it funny it's the con men that claim to be cooper...the "I am Cooper"confession gets lots of mileage...those guys can smell an unsolvable crime a mile away...in some cases a couple of thousand. I am going to try to remember to watch the show on KC but I think this thread is more entertaining. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  5. Well I never knew "Norton" personally but I do know a couple of stories. First...he wasn't jumping in 1971 as far as I know Second...I was told before Perry Stevens would give him the FJC he had to lose about 100 lbs. Which he did. Third...his name wasn't "Norton", he was a Hells Angel and the only one who road a Norton motorcycle. You may guess why his nickname was "Norton". HERE is a story that mentions him in about 1977 jumping in Antioch, Ca. Fourth...I was told these stories by "Crazy Jack" and that is a whole other story. 6. This is the original invention. I believe the technology wasn't cost effective to do any production at that time. Not to mention the liability issues. Good idea and fun. I knew the inventor and have a cool prototype without an aad or chute. Original SkyBall Patent "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  7. Her daughter is my next door neighbor. PM me your email and I'll give it to her and see if she wants to contact you. Sincerely, hangdiver. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  8. Jo, that's a great post. You surprise me with your moments of absolute clarity. I don't comment much but that post deserves some praise, well done. ETA: come on Quade...I know people who have been thrown out of the USPA for life and have been reinstated. I know three personally. Please let snowmman back on the DZ, even Bill Dause lets people come back to his DZ after told to never come back. I have been a DZO I know how hard it is to handle whiners. When people whine they expose their buttons and I, like snow, have a hard time not punching their exposed buttons sometimes. Anyway JMO "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  9. I'll defend him...he's just making sure you're not jumping out of a perfectly good airplane. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  10. It's to bad some person with more money than god doesn't to do it for the jump itself. Branson isn't that crazy but Fosset was. It's sad he's not around anymore but you know what they say about pilots. The bullshit has put many good athletes in the dirt(read my sig line)but I suppose some of us are luckier than others, me included. I think what pissed off Hogan was the same thing that pissed off Robert Kearns, the intermittent windshield wiper guy. I've had patents stolen, I know the feeling. To have some corporation tell you to fuck off then circumvent your idea feels like you've had part of your soul ripped out. I've learned it's better to just let it go than to have it make you crazy. I really don't believe in lawsuits but sometimes it's the only way to bitch slap a corporate thief. And yeah, a brilliant marketing ploy by the bull... Just my .02 "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  11. Looks like Blevins made it six weeks, checking his incoming and exit dates, before running off all butt hurt from DiZZy. eta: he'll be back but quade should ban him for that low life comment about Sluggo "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  12. Yep, grimmie is right. Looking down first will definitely change my hard deck. Jumping in N Cal you might find yourself over a bump of some kind 300'-1000'. I like to start saving my own life at 3,000 AGL, not necessarily my main opening altitude but it's when I start twitching and will spend the rest of my life trying to decelerate if need be. No RSL, no AAD, no MARD and no wingsuit...yet. and yeah...I'm old school... "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  13. Blevins, you are so very easily mixed up I really can't take anything you say seriously about Cooper...no seriously... for someone who claims to be some kind of expert on norjak. BTW I think you and Jo are the only ones to threaten law suits in this thread. So that's the crowd you're running with. just sayin... You were warned about this thread...take heed. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  14. Yep, they're not called tension knots for nothing. Relieve the tension(the jumper or canopy whichever you prefer) and they go away. There is a story over on base jumper where the jumper landed tension knots. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  15. First jump in six years, recovering from back surgery, and you do it on a Spinetto 135??? Orthopedic surgeons just love it when skydivers do such things. Its good for business. You weigh about 135 fully geared up, right? Still, big congrats on getting back in the air. No tandem, no coached jump, no big familiarization canopy, just go for it like you never stopped jumping. 377 Yep...somthin wrong with that? Hey thanks...it was pretty funny to me...I still cross my legs when I fly canopy without thinking about it...got stable head down...transitioned to sit and bobbed...nailed it the second time and started looking over my shoulder to make sure my bridle wasn't trailing...I ground trained myself for weeks...backed out and didn't jump at my first opportunity...waited a week for better...lets say vibes. Oh yeah...stood it up...three steps I wouldn't recommend Hangdiver's School of Skydiving to most...but for that special student who knows... Sorry, back to Cooper... "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  16. Examples and proof would be greatly appreciated Jo. I know, you can't because someone isn't dead yet, you'll get sued, signed a non-disclosure agreement, yada, yada, yada. What the hell are you talking about! Sorry, I don't even give a shit...I rarely read your posts anymore. eta: but I did jump out of an airplane last Friday August 6, load 13...first time in six years since back surgery...that was funny...I stood up my Stiletto 135...man, I'm still cool...ha ha, not... "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  17. Yep Robert, nigel99 is right...do your searches and don't get side tracked in this thread or you'll be here for the rest of your life arguing shit that no one gives a fuck about. Thanks for the pictures and the heads up about the tv thing. This is a skydiver site and the shit gets pretty deep and smells bad for the most part. Whoever Cooper was he had big balls or was dumb as a rock(no offense to rocks). I think it was a bit genius and at the same time high risk with many variables. I,m with 377 on this...show me the rig...until then...who knows. We'll never know...but it makes a hell of a story/myth. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  18. There are large warehouses that have been bought by investors just in case the bill passes. Some of these areas are the size of two football fields. Most of the small growers will disappear overnight. The pot counter-culture will change as business suits take control of the pot economy. I think we'll have everything from bottom of the barrel Wal-Pot to quality hand-crafted stuff. And just like everything else, you will pretty much get what you pay for. I'm thinking that Wally-Weed will be the quality stuff as compared to home-grown stuff for the same reason Napa valley vinifera produces the best cabernet vs. the best home-grown hybrids in Cali. Lots of money to throw into horticulture technology. It's a lot cheaper to buy a good BV wine for $60 a bottle than spending thousands of dollars and seven years minimum to get at best, too young vines that only produce a few gallons. A bit severe in the difference between the two plants, but. . . I am from the Napa Valley...wait for this region to blast wide open with cannabis. Check this out http://www.gsalternative.com/2010/05/cannabinoids-kill-cancer/ Cures cancer...got to be illegal. ETA: This plant has been so demonized by the corporate and government shills that no one has really exploited the true medicinal value of this plant. It is only just happening now and I'm proud to be involved. That's all I have to say on this subject as of now. Got to go and tend the garden... "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  19. That post wasn't directed to you Belgian_Draft. Sorry if you thought so. My apologies. I didn't mention whether I smoked it or not...I did mention juicing it. You know what Jack LaLanne says...if it comes in a package or has been processed more than just juiced it's not fit to eat. The other morning I had eggs, potatoes and toast for breakfast. I got the eggs from my organic chickens out back, the potatoes from my garden and toast from my home made bread from organic whole wheat flour (don't have enough room to grow wheat). I have never felt so good about eating a meal in my whole life. It was a life changing experience. As far as Cannabis goes if you want to smoke, eat, make lotion,or wear it... grow it yourself so you know what you're consuming. BTW...I've never tasted potatoes that were so fucking good and eggs at the store no more... No apology needed. I was raised on what is now called organic foods. Not by choice, but by neccessity. We always had a garden, canned veggies for the pantry, raised and slaughtered our own cattle, sheep, hogs, chickens, etc. An occasional deer (in season, of course ) would find it's way into the freezer. What we thought was living on little money is now known to be the healthiest way to live.

  21. Look...I read the whole initiative. This is going to put your stupid teenagers in prison for 3-7 years, mandatory. ETA: As far I understand it, it won't affect the 215 users. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  22. My personal view is it is an ancient medicine plant. Any substance can be abused...food, sugar, high fructose corn syrup and even water will kill you if you drink to much. It's a plant for fucks sake. Does anyone know that salt kills people as well. Juicing the cannabis plant gives you high doses of the CBD's and very little THC (read doesn't get you high) and guess what...it shrinks tumors. All you do gooders go to your AMA docs and think the poison they give you is fine and eat that GMO crap but a natural plant, you must be drug addict...everything a human ingests affects the body and mind. Wake the fuck up people! BTW read the California initiative. It has mandatory 3-7 years in prison if you fuck up. That's not legalization. It's the corporate takeover of cannabis production. No more mom and pop farms if that one passes. I'm voting no to that. "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  23. Not to get into a pissing contest...but...when you pay your health care insurance payment you are already paying for the people that get injured or sick, not just for your own health. Insurance is a bet. You bet you're going to get hurt...but buy insurance against it. And if you buy health insurance and pay taxes you are already paying for other people without insurance. Try telling the IRS you don't want to... Just a perspective of mine. hangdiver over and out... "Mans got to know his limitations" Harry Callahan
  24. I just replaced a water pump on a V6 Camry owned by a lady who really needed some help. Price quoted by independent mechanic: $1000.00 I did it for 600.00 wouldn't do it again for $2000 I'd throw it away first! My favorite car: see attachment...
