And thus the the birth of "LGOP's" I still love the German officer who said, I will paraphrase: It does us no good to study American Paratrooper's operations manuals, we find that they haven't read them either and don't fight by the manual. This is not a quote about "Fatal Malfunctions" that goal is ZERO%. This is a quote about injuries. 10% is acceptable and calculated in planning for Training and 35% (was) for Combat Jumps. But I would still jump in the Civi world, I would just be the one who stayed in the 90% area. Like I did for my 21 years in the Army. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, who is going to a boogie over the Halloween weekend?
matthewcline replied to skymama's topic in The Bonfire
Not so much a boogie as a party weekend. startskydiving.com's Halloween Party and Speed Star Meet. Plus oodles of work jumps I am sure. I am going as a balding heavier old curmudgeon. Not very original but I am able to pull it off. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -

That almost looks like you continued in the same direction with your "Flip" when you bagged the canopy. I do not pack that way any more but when I did I flipped the canopy back before I put it in the bag, I never used an extension on my bridle and it was not an issue. A jumper I know has a little saying he uses for his Psycho Pack: "Flip right then left, like my Politics" it works for him. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. Voted second day of early voting! Since I am now a TN resident I think they actually count my votes. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

Very true, but lets put it in earlier at the "C" level so they have practiced it before the "D" level. So many are playing with the advanced canopy landings at that jump number range maybe this will help to motivate them to get the training. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. I would leave the night jumps in place and move your course recommendation to the point between the "B" and "C" License. The ones I have seen getting hurt recently fall into that range. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!

"ARMY TIMES Accompanied Korea tour changes detailed By Jim Tice - Staff writer Posted : Wednesday Jan 7, 2009 14:18:32 EST The Army will phase in a new assignment policy for many of the 19,000 soldiers assigned to South Korea. Under a plan announced Dec. 11 by Gen. Walter “Skip” Sharp, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, the Army and other services will offer three-year accompanied tours in Korea as new facilities in Pyeontaek, Osan, Daegu, Chinhae and Seoul become available over the next 36 months. Accompanied tours for 2nd Infantry Division forces at Uijonbu and Dongducheon will be 24 months, which extends accompanied tour opportunities to all locations in Area 1 north of Seoul. Unaccompanied tours to Area 1 installations will remain at 12 months, except those for command and key billets, which will remain at 24 months. The initial phase of the policy change will be implemented this summer for key USFK personnel needed to support the establishment of theater command and control changes in 2012. Under that change, Combined Forces Korea will split into two commands: Republic of Korea Joint Forces Command and U.S. Korea Command. Sharp said he expects that the number of command-sponsored tours for service members in this category will increase from 2,135 to 4,350. The second and third phase of the transition will increase the availability of three-year accompanied tours to more than 14,000 soldiers as new facilities, such as housing, schools and medical facilities, are built at Camp Humphreys. Work at Camp Humphreys is projected to cost $8 billion, but Korean and U.S. authorities are negotiating final costs and construction timetables. Byrne said the transition of Korea to a normal tour area, similar to Europe, represents a mixed bag for Human Resources Command assignment managers. “It means that if a soldier is on a three-year tour in Korea, he is not available for assignment elsewhere,” he said. However, he said it gives soldiers accompanied assignment opportunities in a country that will have new working and living facilities. Byrne said it will be important for the command in Korea to have a strong strategic communications program to make sure soldiers know about these opportunities. During a visit to Korea in June, Defense Secretary Robert Gates endorsed the recommendation of senior commanders to boost the number of accompanied tours in Korea, and to make those 36-month tours, rather than 24 months. The post population at Camp Humphreys is expected to increase from 9,000 to between 45,000 and 50,000 soldiers, Army civilians and family members, according to data provided to Congress. Reorganization plans for Korea include consolidating 8th Army units at Camp Humphreys and Daegu." I asked but now I see where it has changed for all assigned in the last two years! Have fun! Strong lineup. They will continue the winning ways of AS. I think there will be a gold hung on them at the 2011 Nats and they will represent the US at Worlds so well that they bring back the Sword. I will miss getting to jump most weekends with Nik! But man I am happy for him, and jealous! I guess the cell phone pic's will have tan lines now. Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. Great Job by 101st Airborne Demo Team
matthewcline replied to SkydiveJack's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Might want to check deeper. Yes, you need Stand Up landings. But even after qualifying the best of the best will biff a landing once in a while. I bet he has trained hard, scratch that, I KNOW he has trained hard to do it right every time. I can not speak for him, but I will say in watching the video he did it all as he was trained and what is considered right in the DEMO Field, up to the Landing, and that was a minor input error. Once you have as many years in the sport and over all jumps as any of the reputable Demo Jumpers out there, go back and look at your post, with its current years and Jump Numbers, You will see that by then you will have as many biffs on landing as you have jumps now, if not more. This looks like the early days of the Jetski!
matthewcline replied to The_Don's topic in The Bonfire
Well it would be nice to save on the knees and ankles when walking with all that weight, but this is small potatoes in regards to applicability for the Military. But for another fun sport, hell ya! Matt An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!! -
