I'd have no issue with a guy with 100 jumps jumping a camera as long as he was basically treated like a coach: 1. He went through an organized certification... Why the USPA has not created a 'camera checkout course' I just another glaring example of a failure. 2. That the new video guy was under supervision and only allowed on certain pre approved jumps under the supervision of a Sr camera person. This would mean no tandem, no AFF, no total zoo loads. Simple two ways till they have proven they can handle them. No stills, no toys, no zoomies, etc. Actually the Manufacturers decide to help out a little and meet USPA and DZO's "in the middle" and lowered it to 300 jumps (ref 19 Commandments of Tandem Jumping). Wasn't enough for the Madd Skillz folks though, they got the inch but want the mile. IMO, the Manufacturers should have gone the other direction, raised the bar and taken the authority back from USPA, as they have been ineffectual in that area of safety. I disagree, I have never evaluated a 100 jump Coach Candidate in using the Video as a tool THEY brought along. Good for you. Some still understand that a video is a compliment to the skydiving experience. We are skydiving center not video centers, many dropzones with only 182 can't give up the slots for outside video. You would rather there be no video or half the number of jumps? You just made the "Money over quality" argument. Hand cam has it's place, as a edit to outside video which carries the production and as a cheap low quality alternative, lets not pump it up to be more than it is. As a side: Hand Cam needs to be done within "the rules". Manufacturers want handles checked on EACH and EVERY Tandem, so do it T-I's! And no more youtube Mal videos where you hold frame the whole time and HOPE the RSL does your job for you! Unprofessional behavior can be stopped any where in the chain. Unsafe acts can be stopped that way too. May I ask your motivation for attending and is your profile correct? Matt is three years and 150 jumps not enough in your opinion to be a coach? I ask because I have three years and probably will have 200 jumps when I go try to get my coach rating... Since you asked for My Opinion, I will give it, you may like it or not. No, I do not think 150 is enough actual jumping experience for a Coach, 200 (What you say you will have) is far better, IMO. The Time in Sport is key too, three years is good, two minimum again, IMO. I ran Coach Courses set to the USPA Standards, folks met the Standards and passed or did not meet them and did not pass. Some with 100 jumps did well, others with 100 jumps not so well. Those with more than 100 jumps had the same split as those with out. Now there is no certification for a "Couch Course" AFAIK, but I think I am a master at it! It was two "old fuckers" saying "hi" a third party heard us and decided that the one in uniform (not me) needed to be "corrected", my response of "lighten up Francis" went right over his young commissioned head. What exactly does this mean ? The poster posted a list of Tandems made with the Student not wearing an Altimeter. The USPA BOD voted to no longer require an Altimeter be worn or even visible for the Student. Essentially giving in to the "Tandem Mills" desire to "Hang Meat" and "make Bank", while not Instructing.
