  1. Clearly its working because you're looking fine Doc. Thank you, Jamile!
  2. location links Silly, she meant "skydive into the medical mission site in Tennessee" But I used the icon, the internationally-recognized symbol for, well.... Should I have used the instead? I know.... I was just teasin you back
  3. I choose to disagree. And I will even use me as an example. I am an OB/Gyn. But I disagree with "abortions" on a personal level. I would never have one, nor do ever want to take part of one done as a choice not a medical indication. I will counsel the woman on all of her choices and I will tell her where the nearest planned parenthood is or refer her to someone that can help her. I do not preach my thoughts or beliefs to her... as a doctor, that is NOT my responsibility. But neither should her beliefs be imposed on me. Especially since there are MANY out there that will do this. What is wrong is NOT properly counseling and sending her to someone that can help her. Pharmacy debate The pharmacy that refuses to prescribe birth control is wrong, but each specific pharmacist should have the right to not dispense it... but if that one doesn't, then there has to be someone available that will or they have to transfer that script to a pharmacy in that patients health plan in a reasonable area (not 20+ miles away). But, as a right of religious freedom, that pharmacist has shouldn't be fired.... that would be discrimination. Another point is that most pharmacies are privately owned and managed. NOT government run. Although they do have to follow certain government regulations, they are personal establishments. They can refuse to provide service to anyone (but then they could also find themselves in a court house for discrimation themselves) And do you even know what the means of terminating a potential pregnancy are? Or are you just thinking that an "abortion" is the surgery that the woman goes to that place for? Medically speaking - an "abortion" is any disruption of a pregnancy, whether a miscarraige (spontaneous abortion) or an "abortion" (elective termination / therapeutic abortion) If it's early enough, you prevent implantation with the day after pill (which I would write for) or even by dosing the birth control pill differently. If it's later and implantation has occured, there are prescription medicines to terminate a pregnancy (not just the surgery) Additionally on a similar but side note, when I counsel women on intrauterine devices for contraception - specifically the Paragard - I mention that one of the mechanisms of actions is that it prevents the fertilized egg from implanting (which some people do consider an abortion action). But I let them make that decision as an informed adult (and I have placed Paragards, but I prefer the Mirena for several reasons other than that) I think you are just using this as an excuse to hate someone that you already hate. Logic and rationality has little to do with your anger.

  5. I have!! And it would be SO COOL to jump into a remote location.... but I need to work on my landings first. (last landing was a bit ... less than optimal with the trimal fracture) I actually saw that 60min story and thought.... I really need to get back on a plan for something.
  6. That article is more about protection of employee rights. If they are getting Federal money, then they can't discriminate and not hire/fire someone based on his/her religious belief. Now... if that person fails to give appropriate care to a rape victim with appropriate non biases by religious belief counselling.... that you can fire them on.
  7. That is on the list.... but first I want to hit the 10 gallon donation list before I'm permanently deferred from donating
  8. Unfortunately... a good point and one that I hadn't really put too much thought into. And Trace - as far as combining the other services, that would be logistically and financially difficult. The pap itself is about $50-70. That's just the lab fees, if you add to that the sexually transmitted infection screening (gonorrhea/chlmaydia, HIV, Hep B/C, Syphillis, HSV) or looking at genital warts (time and required the cryo treatment equiptment) AND discussing contraception (birth control options) AND medical issues (blood pressure, other preventative medicine screening - cholesterol, diabetes, depression, last mammogram, discussion on lifestlye - weight and smoking) Then it really gets too big for me to objectively want to manage for a short weekend clinic
  9. per Marty: For a close in gun where a vertical dispersion not a big deal, then the op-rod systems are ok. But at 400yds, the accuracy of the op-rod guns is less due to the vertical stringing. He then "educated" me on how whether it's an op rod system or a direct gas impingement system, you still need to take care of the weapon and keep them clean. Even though the op rod system is cleaner.... you still have to maintain them appropriately.
  10. It's not 10.... it's truly thousands. The group that I have gone with is called DoCare and they have a really well set up program DoCare On the mission, you are generally in country for two weeks, during which each provider sees anywhere between 50-100 patients/day. It's WAY hard work .. but I also think its way cool. (that's what I meant by the coolness factor)
  11. My last medical mission was in '05 to Peru. I have since "donated time" while in residency at local health departments.... but this would be a larger NO INSURANCE type drive thing that I was thinking. Total "cattle call" type of clinic where I would just focus on the pap (so no sexually transmitted infection screening, no discussion about healthy lifestyles, no review of health or family history... which I don't like, but it helps get the most in to be seen)
  12. Chicken or the egg? Regardless of it being a "result of being obese" still doesn't mean that the obesity was from downing massive quantities of junk food which seems to be the stereotype of several posters in this thread. Not really a chicken or egg situation. If that person looses the weight, then the metabolic syndrome improves. The extra fat tends to confuse the endocrine system and increases the insulin insensitivity. Once that added challenge is gone, the body tries to fix itself (endocrine wise). But do note that I said "try" You are right though... for some people it is a LOT harder (if not damn near impossible) to stay the 120lb "ideal" weight. Some people have lighter frames/structures and some are designed to be larger. Genetics does play a role, but it can be managed As I said above, my ENTIRE family is heavier set. I work HARD not to be. But it is something that I do have to work at. (which with my recent ankle problem has become an even "bigger" problem).... but I'm not going to dismiss my responsibility. Yes, there are some Medical Conditions that "cause" obesity: Thyroid disorders Cushings Zebra tumors Medication effects But the large majority are due to lifestyle choices. (If you are predisposed to heaviness.... you don't get off the hook, in fact, it means that you have to be "better" with your lifestyle choices)
  13. I was thinking today about when to do my next medical missions when I started considering the needs right here at home. I'm kinda conflicted on which is the "better" option. Cost wise it's kind of a wash - Medical missions - I pay the airfare, food and lodging for the timeframe, the organization and the physicians provide all the supplies, meds, ect Local support - I would consider grants/sponsorship for the services offered. "Coolness" (it's WAY cool to do the remote medical missions things!! but it's also personally rewarding to help those standing next to me at the grocery store) Need.... that's where I'm wondering. Here in the US, we have the "richest poor." People on medicaid with cellphones, manicures, ect... They may not have "real" health insurance, but there are enough "low cost services" with health departments and planned parenthood. However there ARE some that truly can't afford brand name peanut butter. How can they budget $50 or 100 for a preventative screening test? Remote medical care.... helps short term, but is kinda like putting a bandaid on a hemorrhaging arm. But.. if no one steps up. Give me other thoughts
  14. It's the rear sight that you use with the normal M16 front site (A frame) that is used M203 (additionally that picture shows the M203 side sight attached to the charging handle)
  15. I'm not a wussie (edit to add... I know it doesn't "techincally" meet the "show me yours" since that is not a firearm that I own... but it's still a cool lil gun)
  16. All of my family is larger. And yes, I mean 250-300+lb size larger, not a size 10 "larger". I have diabetes on both maternal and paternal lines. Both of my sisters have diabetes. It truly annoys me to hear them complain about monitoring their sugars or about how hard it is being as large as they are. Especially considering that I KNOW that they are NOT trying (and I mean ACTIVELY TRYING) to lose the weight. I distinctly remember one family vacation during which I went for my morning run... while my sister sat on the bed eating a WHOLE can of pringles while watching daytime drivel. I got back from my run, showered and listened to her vent about her size. I picked up the can of pringles and showed her the numbers: with six servings per container and eleven grams of fat per serving, she just ate 66 gms of fat, which with 9calories per gram, that's 594 calories in the time that I burned 390. She almost doubled the intake to my output. And she's complaining to me about being overweight. That frustrates me. I still love them dearly... and they in NO way repulse me but I am frustrated by some of the actions.
  17. I wish your father health and wellness... if that isn't to be.... I wish him a peaceful and painfree evaluation and treatment. I wish you relief from this concern and worry. Hopefully answers will help with this frustrating time.
  18. Sorry... I thought the question was "Who makes your favorite AR furniture? " I assumed that since you asked for opinions that you wanted to know what others liked so you could know about all the options. Not that you already had preset biases. (As mentioned above, kinda a Ford/Chevy type discussion. What cars do you like? Ford. Fords suck... not too much discussion there) If fitting in your rack is your main criterion, then the Badger handguard won't do it for you. Benefits of the badger, in my opinon, is the trapezoidal shape with a flat base that sits better on the bag, the mounting system is one of the easiest to install, all made in America (US parts, US made) And yes, I will admit that I am biased as well... but just thinking that when asking for others opinions... shouldn't be so quick to dismiss.
  19. Congratulations! And Happy Birthday, young lady that has yet to be named!!! May this new life be a thrilling ADVENTURE! Let your spirit be happy! Learn EVERYTHING that excites your mind! Most of all... enjoy it. Shermie and Mrs Shermie.... love her.
  20. Not that website.... but
  21. Man.... do you know how hard it is not to do an advertising type link to the Badger website.... But, since you asked... Badger handguard, Magpole pistol grip, and GI or MLT sopmod buttstock
  22. Repost and resurrection. Circle of life.
  23. Oh yeah, women spraying the old bullet hose all over the place. Dr. Bordson is probably laughing herself silly after reading the comments on how awful some feel that video to be. Honestly.. my thought on the video was kinda like some of the comments above. "I'm SURE that's not a freshly fired case" Bare skin and hot spent casings do NOT mix. And... "Automatic rifles and bikinis... that just silly." But an M60 and a tank top. See... that's cool. Aint that right, Bill. - besides... I was watching that checking off the toys that I've played with. edit to add: Barrett M82 - nope, not yet shot that HK 51 - nope... but I have played with an HK 91 SAW M249 - nope, but I have shot a MP5, M2 50cal, Sten, Thommy, Skorpion Glock 17 (ugh, nuff said.) Sig 550 - nope, but yes on a 551 MP5 - It's nice having cool friends.
