  1. Not really a selection bias, we used the defination for treatement of the disease... but had none fall in that window in the last few months. Just no cases. The guy that I'm working with said there was a name for this kind of luck (besides "bad").... and he's under the impression that I'm bright enough to know what it is. (which I'm obviously not) As in the first post, he initially called it a Hawthorne effect - but that wasn't right. So I wanted to know if there truly was some thing like he said (it's not impossible that it honestly isn't a real thing and he's just trying to bluff....) Thanks for looking into it though
  2. Hello.... is anyone out there? Buehler, Buehler, Buehler.... No one knows this answer? Cum'on guys, you're smarter than that. Help a poor girl out here.
  3. Two hours to go.... better play hard! (and good luck on the interview) Karen
  4. I have been planning to do a study, wrote it up, had it approved and have been waiting now since June 04... because it seemed that just as I got it ready to run, the problem that I was evaluating stopped. (My study is on looking at the effects of the standard medical treatment regimen on preterm labor... and since June, none that fit my criteria have presented to the hospital). The attending that I'm working with initially called it the Hawthorne effect, but that was not really this situation (that was where the effect was influenced by the act of the study... ) I am trying to find the name of the "bias" or "murphys law" type situation where when you try to study something, it doesn't exist. Any thoughts? (yes... I'm a geek, but obviously not a very good one - but it's not like I'm asking if Schrodingers cat is alive or dead or anything)
  5. That and... I have never worked in the food service industry, and know enough to be nice to those who do so that the fates won't smak me square on my ass and make me do that. I always try to tip well... especially if it's a place that I visit often. I don't believe in tipping. I believe in overtipping. - My Blue Heaven
  6. Since we're listing countdown days.... only 17 day til adventure in Peru!!!! (medical missions can be SUCH fun!!!!) Edit to say - Congrats Katie on the Change of Command ceremony!!! Way Cool!
  7. You don't have to prepare a 7 couse meal. If you pick up some KFC or even some veggies from the supermarket to just have around and snack. Hunger isn't going to be the big issue, the support is. Just knowing that they have friends thinking of them... helping to hold them in this time... that's what they need. Just go over. Don't worry about what to say or do.
  8. My baby sister lost her baby girl when Kelly was only 3 months old. It's hard. There's is nothing that you can say to make the loss "better." Just let them know that you love them and that you will be there when they need some support. Also, you might want to consider taking them a meal or something one of the nights this week. The last thing on their mind is "whats for dinner" and a warm meal waiting for them might be deeply appreciated. Just be there. Karen
  9. .... takin all the fun away..... So anyway then, tell us which parts of the course you got to take and what you might recommend about them, what seemed like a waste/why, and just kinda brag about how cool it was... make us jealous.
  10. [replyWe had a chick in the selection course but she got shit canned on the LAST day. That would suck! What happened to get her bumped? And how did the guys on the team feel about her being there... Lots of issues on that topic (so I'm trying to just get info and not get this bumped to SC)... but just curious. (but not to totally hijack your thread... the car thing still looks pretty cool!!)
  11. I'm thinking that your company doesn't need an OB/GYN on the books.... oh well..... guess I'll just have to do it myself. edit for stupid grammar/spelling.
  12. I was only able to go for Sunday night and Monday last year. But it was great fun. Mainly what wingnut said... good skydives with friends. Lots of drinking at night... there was a DVD made, you could see if someone has a copy of that or go to the website about that. http://www.couchfreaks.com/ Specialty planes? I just jumped out of the Otter, I don't think there was really much else. (but again, I got there late)
  13. You need a reason other than that?!
  14. The 007 thing looks pretty fun. Which course did you do?
  15. Back to the topic... (not that spankings aren't a good topic in and of themselves) You know what to do... tell her. Don't wait for the "right moment" or setting up subtle clues.... Let her know, because both you and her deserve that honesty. If it ends up being just a friendship, cherish that. Friendships can be the most important thing with the most heartfelt emotions. If it's more.... enjoy every second. Don't let the opportunity for happiness pass.... Karen
  16. I'd say go back in person to give her your number. Don't be pushy about a date tonight or anything... just say that it took you some time to build up the courage to give your number. If she wants to call you , she will. But don't miss the chance to see....
  17. I'm looking for a reason to be anticipating the future... to be looking forward again. But all I have is the wonderful memories of the past... I'm looking for meaning to return, for the reason to settle and for my place to be set again.... I'm lost, even though I knew that I had it all and wouldn't trade that time for the world... I'm just looking for change from the loss. I'm looking for time. (do they have it on sale at Walmart?)
  18. You're kidding, right? http://world.guns.ru/assault/as16-e.htm
  19. One of the rules of the scope is that you should try to mount the glass as low on the reciever as possible. The carrying handle raises the sight line more than practically acceptable. Yes, you can shoot it, but it wouldn't be ideal (for eye relief issues, less stable shooting position with your head craned up and for issues of divergence). It is a sacrifice loosing the iron sights, but your decision should have more to do with what your intent. If you want a scope, you really, REALLY should get the flat top. But, thats just my opinion....
  20. Congrats on the bonus! New toys!! Your choice kinda depends on what your desired use will be. A good standard answer would be looking at an A2 style with a 20 inch barrel with a 1 in 9 twist. If you are going to buy it new, the order you should consider would probably be Bushmaster, then Colt, then Armalite. Bushmaster has a good track record of a constant level of quality control, so that bumps it up on the list. There are other options to consider. If you want a scope, you will need the flat top option. For more long range accuracy, then consider a free floated handguard. If you want a lot of the specialty stuff done, consider having a custom build instead of ordering it "off the rack." If you want some names of gunsmiths, pm me and I'll get you in touch with someone that can help. Karen
  21. Ahhhh.... that's so sweet! (and yet funny!!)
