    Tough Call

Option two looks pretty good. (at least thats what the force is me telling) So.... what was the decision?
  2. Another thing to think about with regards to doctors is the fact that they are NOT supposed to TELL you what to do. Their job should be to help educate you on your choices and give recommendations. Then YOU decide what you need to do in your life. Doctors are first and foremost teachers.... thus the name Physicians (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor) I would not do well with a Dr. that just told me to take this pill or do that test ... because (well... partly cuz I'm a little stubborn)... but also because it's my life and I want that control. However, the flip side of that coin means that I need to take responsibility for those decisions. If I'm overweight with a family history of diabetes... guess what, it's not the Dr.s fault if I have problems.... If I jump on a tweeked knee.... again, I hold the blame. If I chosse to sleep with multiple partners, with out protections.... I shouldn't be surprised or mad when the consequences come to face me. I think one of the problems here (at least in the US) is lack of personal responsibility. It's much easier to point and say that the Dr. was a fool.... but if you thought so, why didn't you go for a second opinion.... or just not follow that recommendations. Also learning also means listening to the info-mercials.... reading some of the books on alternative medicine.... looking beyond just the standard treatments. But doing in an INTELLIGENT manner. Don't fall for the snake oil.... my dad once told me that if you paid a dime for a diamond ring, chances are it isn't worth a nickle... if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If it sounds like it might have merit... and you believe in it, try it. A very wise man once said "believe nothing, no matter where you read it or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." - Budda Basically what I'm saying is that Dr's aren't evil.... it's not a big conspiracy.... there's no bonus for making you choose poorly... but it's only their job to try to educate their patients. (however, in todays setting of managed care, they sometimes don't get the office time that you should deserve for that teaching) anyway... thoughts to ponder. Karen
  3. But between the postwhoring, all the womens and the sheeps.... when does he have time for a simple lunch?
  4. but.... I'm shocked at how horrid his mother was to him. Why would you do that to a poor little boy that just wants to believe in people?! But the uncles were GREAT! .... to die with your boots on and be buried next to that stupid lion....
  5. That was honestly one of the cutest, most wonderful movies that I have ever seen (second only to the Princess Bride) I loved it!!!! And think that the theme of the story is one to live by.... Live well! Karen
  6. I've used up..... 1. 18 months, double skull fracture from a one story freefall and one point land (on my head on concrete) 2. 11yrs, tripped and had a bit of a traumatic brain thingie and kind of an out of body thingie when I opened my skull on a sharp pointy concrete thing at the park. 3. 15yrs, bike accident that could have ended poorly 4. 16 or 17yrs, "Overhead pass" on a car doing 55 (climb out one side, over the top and back in the other side.... and the driver kinda didn't know what my plans were at the time.....) bad planning 5. (umm.... low pull, two canopies out, at about 30 some jumps....) possibly a couple other poor decisions, but those are the big ones that my mom remembers. My philosophy is that I should have died at 18 months... or even that this is all a coma and I'm making this up myself. (my own personal vanilla skies..... hmmmm.... Tom Cruise......) edit to add-airtwardo wins.
  7. I was raised on raw milk from my grandparents farm, but then after my dad developed diabetes, we had to switch to 2%.... and since then, I sometimes even step it down to 1% with acidophilis. But the taste of the whole milk is by far the best!!!!! -I remember sneaking into the fridge to scoop the cream from the top to my bowl of cereal!!! Karen
  8. They are defianetly good friends... the best! But they'll be back down to FL soon, just a temp move to square things up. Keep his beer cold! Karen
  9. Unlikely that it was due to a blood clot. Not impossible, but she would need to have other risk factors, such as: Trauma to the lower limbs (actual fractures in plaster cast in particular) Hereditary or acquired coagulation disorder http://www.ucy.ac.cy/~deltas/cyprusgmd/diseases/Thrombo.htm Use of oral contraceptives, hormone replacement therapy, esp. in smokers Previous venous thrombosis Pregnancy and the postpartum period (6 weeks) Cancer in an active phase But even still it would be VERY UNLIKELY that this would have been due to blood clots. The most likely answer is still venous pooling in the lower extremities causing a hypotensive episode. Bvillon has some good points too to add to the hypoxia. Karen
  10. The loss of money would have been well paid rather than the loss of my father.... Money is secondary (if not lower) Besides, if you die in debt.... you're still dead.
  11. Toasts: I either think of this http://a1204.g.akamai.net/7/1204/1401/05011904011/images.barnesandnoble.com/images/8970000/8972985.jpg or this http://www.youmightbe.com/pages/rocky_horror.html or a good simple toast.... May you live all the days of your life. — Jonathan Swift k.
  12. Here's a thought... Friends will show you enjoyment in life Time will allow you plenty Experience will bring you confidence A smile will give you a simple comfort An appreciative gesture will grant you fulfillment Only you can give yourself happiness.
  13. Been on both sides myself (had to help my mom keep the house after my dad had a stroke and the nursing home took just about everything before killing him.... and been comfortable) Decided early that money is not important. Definatley not as important as Family, Friends, and being self-sufficient. (and cool stories - money can help with the cool stories, but you can still have cool stories with little to no money) Money is just a device. In the words of Ayn Rand "Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. " So if you don't have the paper greenback, just make sure that you have some other means of trade. I say no. Karen
  14. Happy Birthday!! (a few months late) I don't think its about calendar age.... whether you're 20 or 40, it's about living the life you want RIGHT NOW and EVERY DAY. What age would I like to be - right now my only perspecitve is from 0-34... Dont remember much of the first decade (must have been the multiple head injuries.... at least that's my excuse), High shcool was fun, I'd replay my 20's for the excitement, I didn't start jumping until I was in my thirties.... I wouldn't trade away any of them though, nor would I try to impress others by "staying young" at 29. Some people say that youth is wasted on the young.... but youth can't be "wasted" and some young people are too old, some are too immature..... I've seen some young 70 year olds, and some "old" 40 year olds. It's all in your mind.
  15. uuuuuuummm..... but you notice that not a lot of guys are responding in a heated tone of battle.... no frothing replies to belie the fact that their BMI (body mass index) is a bit too high.... it's when you get all annoyed and indignent that you loose. Whereas, if you just look at Kramers original intent - granted, worded a bit poorly- that he feels that the field of surfing encourages those in that sport to be more fit. We could just look at that and say "ok, maybe I should be more 'in shape'".... he wasn't saying that we're a bunch a fat lazy cows (he better not, or I'll fly down there and kick his broken up ass - edit to add and make him cook me some pie).... but yet that's what it got spun into.... Where as the guys wouldn't necessarily get so bend out of shape from that imagined insult so I don't think that your reverse of the comments will give you the effect that you desire. This just isn't the achilles heel for most guys.... you should have changed it to - Surfer Men (Dudes) are much better in bed overall then Skydiver Men (or have much better cars.... or bigger guns..... or .....ummmmmm) k.
  16. WOW!!!!!! Glad you're ok. That could have been a very serious situation!!! Reading through this thread, there are some helpful and some not so helpful replies (from my perspective and understanding of the human body - but remember, 200 years from now, they will be laughing at what we think about "modern medicine") Overall, I would have to completely agree with tustinr. I think it's possible that the venous pooling in your legs could lead to hypotension and thus.... passing out. Can I tell you for sure? Nope, that's why it's very wise of you to go to the Dr and get the work up to make sure that it's not something more serious. Here are a couple of articles that might help explain syncope (fainting) http://www.americanheart.org/presenter.jhtml?identifier=4749 http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0BUY/is_11_10/ai_67881675#continue http://www.emedicine.com/med/topic3385.htm Another thing to briefly chat with your doc about is the possiblity of a new onset seizure disorder (although it's unlikely at your age to get epilepsy) here's a website to just scan with some info on seizures http://www.epilepsy.com/101/101_epilepsy.html And no, I don't think "that time of the month" would influence whether you have a syncopal episode or not. It might make you feel less on the game, but not to the point of passing out. The amount of menstrual flow amounts to a total blood loss of 60 to 250 milliliters (4 tablespoons to about 1 cup). And some of that isn't really "blood" rather the endometrial lining (tissue) Again.... WOW, you've got some angels watching over your shoulder. Karen
  17. I may not be the "only" special .... but my momma told me "special is as special does" (or was that "stupid is as stupid does" ... or was that in a movie.... or is this all just a dream.... ) (it's bad to be bored on a Saturday night.)
  18. Here in Kansas City, you can go to either an IHOP or a Waffle House. Aint we the luckiest!!
  19. Congrats on getting a new smile!! I hope it makes you feel warm and fuzzy!! (and then you can stop cursing at all the happy, shiny peoples and maybe even send off some fluff posts!!) Since they need to fix the partials, you should see if they could just make a new one... and put like fangs or something odd on the old ones that didn't quite fit right... Wouldn't that be cool? (ok... maybe I'm just odd)
  20. Congrats!! Pics 79 and 80 are beautiful with the backlit appearance of the clouds. You should submit them or one of the actual 18way to Parachutist. Karen
  21. Even with photographic "proof"... could still be photoshop. Wouldn't you prefer live over memorex? Karen
  22. Extend it to 16 mos and I'm there lifting one with you.... Make it a long island (had 2-3 already tonight) Cheers boy! Karen
  23. Anybody at WFFC and know if he's managed to charm any of the ladies there with his open invitaitons?
  24. Happy Birthday, Mike. (now call your mom and thank her for what she did for you on this day - ok maybe 40 years ago) Karen
  25. Oh yeah.... this was a thread about jumping at ZHills... wasn't it? ooops!
