  1. Just give her support. That's all you can do. Karen
  2. Probably not the best reason for doing it.... But hey, take the double points if you can. Seriously though. Do it cuz you want it - And understand what "it" is. Not just the "glory" or the "title" but the knowledge, the challenge, the passion. It's too much work and pain to do it for any reason less. Good luck and call me if you have questions. Karen
  3. Firstly - Don't feel pressed to HAVE to make a decision (as in the pm... it's a journey not a destination) Secondly - I feel that I need to defend the Nursing side of the house. RN's are intelligent and respected. There is nothing "less" about being a nurse. That being said, although Dr.s and Nurses are on the same team, there are different expectations that go with each. As the Dr., the ultimate recommendations come from you. Just think about what you want to do and let it fall into place. If you have questions about how to help it fall... feel free to ask others! Karen
  4. You gave the best advice. She NEEDS to see her Dr. There have been successful pregnancies (IUD failures) but there are also risks with having the IUD present (ectopic implantation being the big one). Just wondering on how she's doing and what did the Ultrasound show?
  5. I have a Pirate fetish. They're sooooo sexy. Agreed... but I wanna be a pirate too. Not just a lame ass whiny chick getting kidnapped and all. I wanna say "Aaarrrgggh!"
  6. Including your pap?
  7. Mallory Weiss Tears.... Bad deals! My stepdad had one and got lucky that he's still here. -oh, and Turtle, It's not a matter of if you LISTEN to the orders that I give... you have to actually FOLLOW the orders. But I wasn't giving you those orders as your "Doctor"..... Karen
  8. Meine Meinung ist genau so wie das. My favorite saying from my time over there as an exchange student was "Icha dicha nicha ficka." (but I was only 17 at the time... things may have changed since then)
  9. Listen to doctors?! Nobody does that anymore!! (in my situation, I would look at my enzymes, examine other risk factors and decide on a situational basis - but that's cuz if you know the rules, then you can break them ) Karen
  10. I thought, by looking at "The Three Questions" that Tolstoy had a more personal view on meaning of life than "it means nothing" Look at http://www.yuni.com/library/docs/200.html My meaning to life.... who ever has the best stories - wins. Relying on others to make life meaningful may just bring pain.... life is just too unpredictable with too many variables. You need to make the meaning yourself. Karen

    Comedies

Probably too late on this, but maybe for the next time you go out. Favorite comedies: Mr. and Mrs. Smith!! Princess Bride. My Blue Heaven. Undercover Blues.
  12. Federal regulations have placed limits on residents work hours to an average of 80/week over a 4 week period. How close you get to that average depends on the rotation that you're on at the time - Gynecology Oncology.... expect it to be 80. Reproductive Endocrinology... sometimes as light as 50 or so/wk. But in 23 more days I will have no restrictions and will work whatever it takes to keep my practice and my patients happy. Obstetrics and Gynecology 4th year Resident. (T-23)
  13. I'm VERY impressed... and although I know that that alone wont get you the $750k, I hope that those in the position to give you the money will be impressed too!! Good luck. (not that it seems you need luck.... with as prepared as you seem... but good luck anyway)
  14. Mine is an abbreviated version of a poem that I keep at my desk (and at work) Living Eulogy She danced. She sang. She took. She gave She served She loved She created She dissented. She enlivened She saw. She grew. She sweated. She changed. She learned. She laughed. She shed her skin. She bled on the pages of her days. She walked through walls She lived with intention Mary Anne Radmacher-Hershey'97 Another sig line that I've considered "Forever deaf... behind lips clasped shut." from a poem by Terri Trespicio Wild Side She does not sing opera in her bathrobe and bunny slippers, or eat chinese food under her black umbrella in the rain. She never stays up late just to listen to the sound of midnight, or does a pirouette in the street all alone. She never whistles out her window to passery below, or feverently discusses evil and world wars with the deaf man on the park bench who watches the bird eat bread crumbs. She refuses to let her dreams gaze into the eyes of tall strangers embraciing glasses of champagne. She will not walk barefoot on the grass, So please don't even ask her. She'll just wait for the days to diminish and the passersby to pass by. They will be forever deaf to a song or a whistle that will stay trapped behind her lips clapsed shut. Karen (oops had the wrong poem typed, silly Karen)
  15. Don't just wear the lap belt. When I was a teen ( a couple of years back) I lost a dear friend that had it actually cut into his abdomen to the depth of the his spine. It's hard to say that it was "down across his lap" and "correctly supporting the pelvis"... but it slid up to his abdomen and he ended up dying. Now, whether he would have died being ejected from the vehicle without it remains an unknown... but don't just wear the lap belt. (just my 0.02) (ps... I've started wearing mine a little more again, depends on who is with me. Three years ago, I never went without it... then kinda stopped. I know I "should" and I tell all my patients that they should... but .... now I'm starting again. Kinda) Karen
  16. Lizzie, I hope the biopsy results come back fine. Health is more than a good blood pressure and happy lab tests. Its a whole feeling of well being that can be improved every day by the love and friendships that you have. It's a happiness and appreciation of something as simple as breathing. People with no medical ailments can be "sick" while those with cancer can be "healthy." The feeling of wellness is very important in life.... and I wish for you Health. Karen
  17. And what exactly did you do in this research projecct? Help with writing the abstract? Data calculation? Or subject participation?
  18. I've noticed more that I haven't wasted most of my life... but did throw away some moments that would have meant the world.....
  19. How about a Llama? http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/llama.php
  20. Monty Python! After the spankings. The oral sex!
  21. I've been very naughty! Many spankings, but can we skip to after the spankings?! Please.... cuz after the spankings come..... (added a bit to help those less versed in the important quotes in life)
  22. Carefull!! I might have repressed memories that are better left buried. I'm much happier trying not to worry about whether the nuns will disapprove! (Sr. Lucille Marie scared me! )
