How many jumps for skydiving respect?
GQ_jumper replied to llkenziell's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Isn't that the case at most drop zones? If not I'm happy I'm at my DZ. Quote I wish it was but it's not. I have even watched guys with coach ratings who made plenty of money in their regular jobs charging for coach jumps. I can understand asking for your slot to get paid for if you're a decent coach, and you make a good living outside the DZ, it's understandable if you don't want to spend your money on someone else. But to charge, unless this sport is your living, why? Or you need a few extra bucks to make your fun jump at the end of the day. Is this also the first time you've posted a question on dz.com?!?! Here's the trick, if you think you may owe, just bring in beer regardless, if you do something for the first time, bring it in. and if you didn't do anything wrong or anything for the first time, brign it anyways. I almost always show up at the DZ with beer, get ahead, cuz when you start doin stupid shit, you'll already have your beer in teh fridge History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. I'm well aware that perspective is everything, but the perspective of the camera does not change the fact that the dog received medical attention before the human. That's not the way it works in civilized societies. Quote And what exactly is the order of precedence when it comes to medical attention in civilized society. I'm assuming you would agree with something along the lines of women and children first, then men, then any other creature(family pet, police dog, etc.). I think he and others on here just MIGHT have an inkling on how things work. Quote So because he is from South Africa you don't have any problem with him 1) disrespecting the memory of those killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor, and 2) taking a shot at US soldiers in Iraq? could you have missed the point of me starting this thread any more? People need to have more respect, they have every right to their opinion, as well as have the right to post it wherever they would like, but sometimes people should take a step back and maybe bite their tongue out of respect. And if they choose not to hold their tongue and take a shot, well then as I've said before, grab your nuts say it to their face and don't cry about freedom of speech when someone returns your verbal cheap shot with a physical one. Just my opinion History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

How many jumps for skydiving respect?
GQ_jumper replied to llkenziell's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You know I see so many DZ's with a coach program, where students pay a buttload of money to have a coach jump with them, and I also see so many people with a coach rating that have it and do not use it. What i don't see is people willing to mentor the new guys for no charge. I lucked out, I've never paid for a coach jump in my life. As a matter of fact, I didn't even know coach jumps existed until I had 100 jumps, I thought you finished AFF and that was it, I had people who were nice enough to say, hey lets go do a jump, then debrief me afterwards. I later found out these people were coaches and just wanted to help, I grew up at a very small DZ where it was a family. this needs to be the norm everywhere, look at the program that Divewerkz runs in Eloy, a mini, free 4 way camp. Why can't DZ's do something as simple as put a clip board by the manifest window with a column for mentors and a column for newbies, new guys put their name down and someone experienced walks up grabs em and takes em up. simple as that, these new guys are never going to be good enough to hang with the big dogs unless they are led in the right direction. right now I consider my self to sort of be in limbo, I'm not one of the newbies anymore, I can hang with any of the groups(RW at least), but I'm not good enoguh to be one of the coaches or big dogs at the DZ, but at the same time I won't let someone who just got a license stand there and get on a load by themself, I know a coach will tell me to fall in place and let the "student" come to you, well this can be demotivating if they can't get it, turn a few points with them(or turn the points for them), go to them, show them that a 10 point 2 way is easy as hell, the fact that they went up and got a few docks motivates the shit out of a new skydiver, and have a big smile on your face the whole time, and when they come up to you apologizing in the landing area for missing a grip say "fuck it we had fun and that's what matters." It'll pay off down the road. I'm just sick of people not getting their A license because they don't have the money to pay their way through the coach program and their DZ requires it. I personally witnessed a good buddy of mine(who is an AFF instructor) get an ass chewing from the guy running a coach program at the DZ because we went up with a guy just off AFF and turned a few points, then at the end of the dive he debriefed the kid and signed something on his license card. The kid did what the card said was required to get that signed off so why not sign it off, the guy running the program was pissed that he did it for free and said that they could only get their license if they went through his program at the DZ. This is the wrong answer my friends. triple flange work great, the foamies IMO are a little bit more of a happy medium between not hearing enough and hearing too much. Also, i tend to misplace things a lot, so I'm sure I'd lose the nice triple flange in a day, the foamies come in big boxes so I never run out History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Typical macho bullshit. Did it occur to you that freedom of speech is one of the tenets that you're actually fighting to protect? What ridiculous hypocrisy.Quote I never said he didn't have the freedom to say that, but you seem to think it's wrong for someone to stick up for something or someone they hold close to their heart. If you walked down the streets of Paris screaming "fuck you frogs" would you think it unfair or out of place if someone gave you a fat lip? I'm sure you would say someone deserved to get a few bruises if they walked through a black neighborhood screaming racial slurs at people. So what's wrong with me saying that if someone is going to talk shit about someone else they should say it to their face and not to a computer screen? All I'm saying is if you're going to talk trash be a man and walk up to them and say it. I never said anything implying that he couldn't say what he said. t never once said anything about the toughness of the solders, he was speaking out more about the government than anything else It seem spretty clear to me that this was intended for soldiers, regardless of whether it was or not it was posted in the middle of a thread started in memory of those who gave their lives at Pearl Harbor. I can understand the handler going to his dog first, but the rest of the cops also screwed up by not immediately treating the suspect after he was down. Quote the dog was a teammate to all the officers, not just the handler. I understand your position and you have a very viable argument, my reason for saying what I do, I work in a team environment, I trust the men I work with to watch my back in some pretty bad shit, my teammates come before anyone else which is why I am all for treating the one who had your back before treating the one who if given the opportunity probably would have put a bullet in it. Well now that would be novel wouldn't it, diplomacy BEFORE distruction Most people would rather you lot (and our lot) packed ya shit and went back home. Just for the record I would have ZERO trouble fronting you to say that Quote I have no issue with you wanting the US out of Iraq, a little question I have though is how does a terrorist killing me rather than the opposite count as diplomacy before destruction? And before you go and try and pull a tought guy routine look a little closer at what I was calling out, like I said if you want us out of Iraq, voice your opinion, but if someone is going to knock a soldier saying they aren't tough enough to handle the war, they should grab their sack and say it to a soldiers face, they are still more than welcome to voice their opinion I just think people who say such things should experience first hand how well soldiers can really fight. Just remember that we are ensuring the preservation of a person's right to say things that we disagree with, and even find offensive. Quote I agree with you completely, which is why I never told him he had no right to say that, but as he has rights to say whatever so do I and I exercised them to show how I feel about what he said. It's obvious that I don't always speak in the most tactful manner, but I do make an effort to be respectful to those who deserve it. It is the judicial system's place to judge, not the police officers'. Quote So they should have to ask for permission from a judge before they can open fire? Because you know that will happen quick. My point was that if I had the choice between someone who had put me in danger, and a dog who could be credited with attempting to save me my loyalty goes to the dog. Animal or not it's still a teammate and teammates come first, I'm not saying let the person just bleed out if you can save them, but if you can only save one......I don't know how much truth there is to it but I have heard that you can defend your dog as if they are a member of your family, I know I would, I pray for the soul of the man who would ever lay a hand on my baby in a harmful manner, it wouldn't be pretty. Let me add that I haven't gotten to watch the video yet nor have I read to closely into this situation, I'm just taking what info I can pul from the posts on here thus far. Either way, I wore mine every time I left our campQuote I think I'm going to go with foamies on this next trip, lat time I never used it, and I don't like Peltor's and all those noise canelling things unless I'm at the range, you can't tell which direction teh sound is coming from, with foamies, you can still tell. I did get rocked quite a few times by breaching charges, so yeah, there it was my fault. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

I just can't get over the fact that in the introduction to a video in which a human being is shot to death, this fact is treated as an afterthought. Quote the man was beating his girlfriend, he should be considered one of the lowest forms of life on Earth, and deserved a death. the dog, serving the public, hold his actions on high and do everything you can to save him. DEC 7th- A day which has lived in INFAMY
GQ_jumper replied to BlueSkiesKel's topic in Speakers Corner
I was watching a few documentaries on the attack the other day while at work, and hearing some of the stories tore me apart, I was in tears hearing about it. Thanks to all who served back then and continue to serve. And thanks to BlueskiesKel for starting this thread, I'm sorry a few people had to ruin it. Maybe people in here could have a shred of decency and take their arguments out of this thread, maybe here---> Thanks Tonto History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. I'm not going to ruin a thread started to honor fallen hero's so I'm posting this here. THIS IS TRULY FUCKING PATHETIC!!! Someone starts a post in remeberance of fallen American's, no intention of starting a political debate, and people have to get this shit thrown into SC. Does no one have any respect anymore? (as said by TONTO) And that comment, quite the ballsy statement from someone sitting behind a computer, would you still have the guts to say that standing toe to toe with an American soldier, or any American for that matter. I highly doubt it, if you wouldn't say it to a persons face why on here, it's an act of cowardice if you ask me, and I think i've made it clear in these forums before where cowards stand in my book. Take it from someone who has been there twice and is packing my bags at the moment to spend the next 9 months over there, it has nothing to do with how the soldiers are fighting, there's been a lot of leadership issues at the highest levels, not to mention the media making everything into a huge issue forcing more and more restrictions on the way we fight. Because of people bitchin about us doing our job we now might as well sit down with the people shooting at us and have a heart to heart with them before engaging them. Seems that most of the people out there would rather see us die than kill a fucking terrorist. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

SF chaps as I understand it are getting a minimum $40K+ if they re-up while deployed. Quote I wish that were true but unfortunately not, I just talked to the re-up guy this week and I think he said all 5 MOS's are capped at 30K right now, my team SGT just re-upped and got I think 30K, my warrant got the 150K. It's not lookin good for me to get a big chunk of change while I'm over there, and considering my ex-wife pretty much got my whole re-up bonus the first time I guess I'll never get a big ol' bonus. I did make out good when I joined though, I opted for the college money instead of cash. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Uh, based on your weekend jump numbers, I'm thinking deaf or not, you are doing just fine. Quote Well the bad part about hearing loss and sex is that I couldn't tell if she was sayin don't stop, or I want to be on top And Gawain, I'm now on a hearing profile and I'm starting to wonder about my disability too. I'd say I damn well deserve it, but like you mentioned, for that very reason I doubt I'll get it. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

Certain US Special Forces re-enlistees are seeing re-enlistment bonuses as high as $150,000 (very specific guidelines need to be met).Quote Yeah that's mostly for Warrant's and senior NCO's looking to get out at 20, they offer them a six figure re-up to stay in a few years after they are eligible to retire. As for the rest of us lowly door-kickers, i thin we're looking at a 2.5 multiplier right now, which when you break it down doesn't amount to crap. I did the math the other day and if I remember right i'll be getting maybe 10K at the most if I re-up while in Iraq in a few months, and that's for like 3 years. Let me double check on the number though, I may be mistaken. History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid. --Dwight D. Eisenhower

From a sterilised after the fact perspective I suppose that would be the appropriate thing to do, but again this was a tense standoff. A dog can become as close to a person as a family member. For the dog handler, he must have seemed like a real partner. Imagine you train with a dog every day, work with him for years, drive around every day with him as your sole companion in your vehicle, and even make one way small talk with him. You know he is feircely loyal to the point where he would put his own life in peril to protect yours, and he may have already saved your life at one point. Then one night due to a crazy dirtbag with a gun, some hyped up cops, and perhaps a handling error on your part he gets shot up doing his duty. In that situation I might be overwhelmed with concern for the dog. Not correct procedure perhaps but the cops are only human. Quote From a legal stand point it may very well be the wrong answer, but IMO the Police officer gets treatment first, whether it be human or animal. Of course this is coming from someone who has a dog that never leaves my side, so if it came down to treating my dog, or treating a person who created the incident that got my dog shot, my dog comes first.
