Being gay in an ENTIRE state should not equate to a biker bar. One is a confined area entirely controlled by ONE group. I just did a cursory search for apartments in NY. Found one in Manhattan for $401-$655. $47,000 is plenty with that rent...the rent could even be a little higher. I have done it in my area AND started skydiving at the same time. There were also some that require a small commute, but that is what you have to deal with sometimes -- I do.
