Also take some nasal spray like afrin (sp?) to help. I don't believe that it is accurate to say that there is blood in the inner ear. That would have caused an awful lot of damage! A worst case scenario is that you could rupture your tympanic membrane. (Eardrum.) The full filling that you get is that the air filled space in your middle air is unable to equalize to the outside pressure due to clogging or obstruction of the eustachian tubes. Your ear feels full because of the stretching of the tympanic membrane. You get a resultant temporary hearing loss because the stretching of the TM prevents sounds from causing it to vibrate as easily. I know that personally I cannot jump after having a cold that caused congestion or after a sinus infection. I need to be really careful with that, even if I fill 95% better I need to wait to 100%. Not only does it hurt my ears badly, but I can get incredible sinus pressure and nose bleeds in freefall as well. If I were you, in the future I would be very careful about returning to skydiving after a cold. Maybe try a hop and pop first to see how it feels and then go to full altitude if you're feeling comfortable. Also prepare by taking sudafed, Afrin a few hours before and then a half hour before you jump. Well.. there you go. Some of audiology 101. Considering that I am a full-time college student, am working on a thesis and several research projects, learning actually is my life right now. What is sad about that? I think it is sad when people aren't interested in learning. But as far as what you may think constitutes having a "life".. yes I have one of those too.

Yeah.. a friend found the PC9 on ebay. Good deal, $200. Edited to add: In response to the stills suggestion.. it may be the case that I could earn a lot more money with a digital still camera, but right now that is just not an option. I do have a 35mm Canon SLR that I plan on hooking up to the helmet. I figure if tandems want stills I can just give them the roll of film after the jump. Old-school, but it works. It sounds like you fell for this guys supposed "expertise." It doesn't sound like he really has any scientific basis for those facts. Does he have a degree in any related field? Or did he just do a bunch of google searches? When someone says that they studied something it has a fairly vague meaning. Now if he had a PhD on the subject I would put more stock in these statistics. I'd also listen to him if he only cited research that was peer reviewed. But it doesn't sound like this was one of those kinds of fact-based lectures. Now you've de-railed me from my "studies" and I am on a quest to find peer reviewed research to prove some of these "facts" wrong. Wish me luck. Finally after all these years I am getting a camera set-up! I placed an order for a NEW hawkeye and found a cheap PC9.. now I just need to collect some bits and pieces.. and as soon as the Hawkeye arrives... I'll be a real freeflyer.
