  1. Any chance it was a gear warning horn? I have no idea if a kingair has this, but some planes have a horn that goes off if the throttle is idled with the gear up. Dave
  2. Those are just screenshots from microsoft flight sim! I've done that flight a hundred times... Dave
  3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3663225271&category=310 Dunno if it's legal or safe to jump, but it's cheap! Dave
  4. I understand. I just found it strange that you seemed to be arguing with yourself up above. She quoted you almost directly. Dave
  5. Hmmm... http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=857313;search_string=45%20degree;#857313 On january 14th you wrote: Dave
  6. Need high res? I have this as a 300 ppi png or psd file. Dave
  7. If my head scratched as easily as my Z1, I'd wear a protec!
  8. So diverdriver, you're saying we should all carry a protractor in the plane with us? Good idea. I'll put in in the pocket my hook knife is supposed to go! And I am just kidding and misquoting for those that haven't figured that out. Dave
  9. I made one for a t-shirt a while back. I'll have to find it later if you want it. Dave
  10. Yeah, when I first demoed a sabre2, I was taught to do a 2 stage flare. It was a windy day and I was coming down nearly vertical, so it actually felt a whole lot like my PD 9 cell on approach. At about my normal flare height, I flared to my shoulders. Felt pretty normal to me. Then my forward motion completely stopped and I started going straight down. I continued my flare, and popped back up a few feet. I just held it, let it settle back down, and finished the flare. Softest landing I ever had. I couldn't believe it could do that.
  11. ...Yep, that's what the waiver says alright. You're asking ME? Course I wouldn't let that go. What would YOU do? I sure as hell wouldn't sue though! That would just be stupid. And not because of any waiver. If a DZ is negligent to the point that they have already hurt or killed someone, directly due to their gross negligence, sure, I'll walk away and tell my friends not to jump there. But ya know who's still gonna be jumping there? YOUR friends, because I don't know them to tell them not to jump there. By picking up and just leaving, you're letting the dangerous activities continue. I say demand better. Dave
  12. DZs don't make us sign waivers as a promise not to sue. They know very well we (and more likely, first time students) will sue. It's happened before. The waiver is proof that we understood the risks involved with what we were doing. I know you don't agree with me. But that's the way I see it. I firmly believe that anyone suing a DZ for anything other than gross negligence should automatically lose. In many cases of gross negligence, they should lose. But I believe there are cases where a lawsuit is not out of the question. But as I said in the other thread, I hope when I've been there and done that like you have, I'm not going around preaching that skydiving is dangerous because DZs are known to be negligent and always have been. I hope I'm crusading for better service from the DZs. A world of skydiving that doesn't even need to cover gross negligence in the waivers because gross negligence is simply out of the question. Do I accept that some nasty stuff has gone on in the past? Course. Do I accept that some nasty stuff still goes on? Sure. Am I ok with it continuing in the future? Nope! The day I just sit back and accept without question that my pilot might be drunk or my DZO might have cut my reserve ripcord for fun is the day I should (but wouldn't anyway) quit the sport. Dave
  13. I've heard the joke about the parachute with a red stain for sale, but never a yellow stain.
  14. AHA! I'm figuring things out here! This is a conspiracy! One of the last visitors to the site before it was shut down was relay2.cia.gov, who connected from the dz.com topsites. The US government cancelled the comanche helicopter and shut down my website just to fuck with me! But I'm on to them... BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Dave
  15. True. But what the hell does someone do with 35 gigs of space and why don't they put that in big red letters above the submit button to sign up for a year of hosting? I'm not saying they have to highlight portions of the terms of service if they don't want to, but something seems very shady about their practices. I thought the deal sounded too good to be true and I was right. Dave
  16. The seemingly multiple identities threw me off at first and scared me a little. Seems like whenever anyone talks about custom pullup cords, they're talking about the same person but with different email addresses for him. But once they arrived, I stopped caring how many addresses the guy has. They're nice!
  17. I bought some (non custom) ones from ebay from endangered species, aka pullupcords@yahoo.com, aka customizedprints@aol.com, aka neil shannon walker. Quality is excellent. They are just like the ones you'll get from PD, but a little longer, and a bit wider than the square1 ones. They were cheap (I think I paid a little over $2 for 5 pullup cords, including shipping), and delivered quickly. I'd definitely recommend them. And if you ever see me, ask if you can borrow a pullup cord...
  18. I'm not a whole lot taller and I have no problem with flaring my sabre2 135, or the 135 and 150 I demoed. I can't compare it to a sabre, but I find that I don't usually have to flare it fully for a nice soft landing. Only issue I had was reaching the slider on the 150... so I just didn't collapse it. The 150 was my first ever jump on ZP, on my 100th jump. I couldn't believe the opening or the flare. Dave
  19. Just FYI... the site wasn't shut down due to bandwidth use. I was well within my limits... only maybe 10 gigs transfered in the 2 days the site was open
  20. Every waiver I've signed, that I've actually read, specifically states gross negligence too. Dave
  21. Yeah I just emailed them about that. I almost accused them of false advertising but I decided to just ask some polite questions for now. I don't quite see how any website with pictures on it wouldn't violate the terms of service. I don't see how anyone could realistically use 35 gigabytes (i was using around 11) and not violate the terms of service. And I think the combination of offering 35 gigs of space and hiding that VERY important sentence deep down in the middle of paragrpah 10 of their 31 paragraph terms of service is a trap to get people to violate the TOS. My only legal advice so far is to call my credit card company and have them cancel the payment. But I just don't think I want to get involved in that. Dave
  22. I had been paying for 35 gigs of space, 100 gigs/month. Dave
  23. I think I'm ready to just give up. We'll see. Craig Poxon is looking into the bit torrent thing. I don't know what other web hosts would charge for a site like I had, but I think the best deal I could get would be a dedicated server at the same host I was at. And for a dedicated server, there would be no way to do a short trial. Setup fees are hundreds of dollars, and I think the monthly fee goes through the roof if you don't buy a year at a time. (The hosting I had woulda been double the price if I payed month by month). The mistake I made was not doing a big test of the site while I could get a 30 day money back guarantee. I was just thinking this morning how smart I was to wait till the site was really finished before opening it up. But right up to last Saturday I could have gotten my money back... at least I think. I've written the company an email asking for more details on why I was shut down and explaining some things. The more I look at it, the more I think I not have been violating their terms of service. I need to hear exactly what they believe I violated though. Dave
  24. Depends who that person is. Just picture a real life situation. A twin otter is flying over the DZ. The guy by the door asks an instructor how much time between exits. The instructor says 5 seconds. A guy with 30 jumps yells out "NO! I learned on dropzone.com that you need to add the blahh blahh blahhh and multiply by blah blah blah and if you do the calculation you need a separation of at least 12 seconds today!" Guess who anyone is going to listen to. Dave
