Shouldn't still be doing that. You're probably seeing a cached version of the site for some reason. Try reloading, or open it in a different browser. If that doesn't work, the problem is with your ISP's domain name servers not being updated. Dave

I've read the posts about why people shouldn't become professional skydivers. You should be posting on why not to become a moderator! Takes a lot of the fun out of it, huh? Dave

Eh? I just want some ice cream. I'm starving, damnit, and ice cream is delicious. Dave

Some people take this site WAY too seriously and personally. You indicated in your first post of this thread that you moved this thread because of what I posted. I was responding to that. The banning part was a joke. My point was why move a whole thread instead of deleting (or ignoring) one post? Alright, can we please just settle down and eat some ice cream? Dave

One man's noise is another man's signal. How does my change where this thread belongs? Would a reference to Ivan have been more or less appropriate? And yes, since we're in talkback now, I am just being an ass. I just dont see how my reply changes where the original post belongs. Why not just delete mine and ban me for a year? Dave

Point all ya want. Been there, done that. I'm here because of the moderation. Trust me, I see the need for it and wouldn't want it to go away. But I think it's WAY overdone. We're all just here to have some fun and learn. Why can't we do both at once? Wouldn't bother me a bit if all threads that have absolutely nothing to do with skydiving were deleted from talkback. It's a skydiving site afterall. But to mix serious skydiving threads with all this junk is ridiculous in my opinion. Nothing against most of the moderators here. You guys are following your instructions (most of the time). I just think at some point Sangiro will have to take a serious look at his rules versus what his loyal visitors want. It's his site, and he can require us to talk about pink elephants or be banned if he wants. But I think it's in his best interest to make this site as pleasant an experience as possible. Now I'm not suggesting that everyone shares my opnions. I'm just giving my opinons. Wow, can you say thread hijacking? Dave

Wow, I'm powerful! Or was that meant to be a hint not to do that again? Eh, I didn't learn a thing... DOWN WITH OVER-MODERATION! Dave

This'll get moved to talkback soon enough anyway, so... Dave

Free tunnel time sure sounds like a benefit to me! Dave

Do you walk across a taxi-way after you land?
pilotdave replied to skyhussy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
How many DZ's are on towered airports? Must be very few... Dave -
Damn its a shame they screwed up those colors! Woulda been a nice rig otherwise... Dave

Do you walk across a taxi-way after you land?
pilotdave replied to skyhussy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
At Skydive Delmarva in DE, the landing area is on the opposite side of the runway as the DZ. Jumpers have to walk across the runway every time. Did AFF1 at Ocean City, MD (which I think is only a tandem factory now), but their student landing area is across a runway. They sent out a golf cart to pick us up. They also taught "runway etiquette" as part of the first jump course (ie, look both ways before crossing a taxiway or runway, and if a plane is coming, kneel down on one knee to let the pilot know you'll wait). As a pilot, I've once had to do a go-around do to jumpers not looking before crossing the runway at Delmarva. Not really a safety issue...more of an inconvenience. I see no problem with jumpers crossing runways or taxiways as long as they're instructed to be careful. It's no more complicated than crossing a street! Dave -
This forum's guidelines are getting fuzzy...
pilotdave replied to BigM's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This may not be a democracy, but our all-powerful leader may change the rules to make this a more pleasant experience for visitors. General Skydiving may not be a "skydiving talkback," but in my opinion, it should be. Just wondering if anyone else feels that way too. I don't THINK ya can get banned for this sort of talk... Dave -

I think the rules need changing! Anyone else agree? Dave -
Got any color pictures of it? Dave

Yep. Who'd be paying for that research? Dave -
Check out the video Good Stuff by Joe Jennings. Dave

Very nice vid. Made me smile (and cringe a few times)! Thanks! Dave

Sort of... He was attached to the rig by a cable under his sleeve. Dave

Eh, I'm totally opposed to making AADs mandatory. I'll have two rigs and one cypres by next week (YAY!) and have no problem with the idea of using a cypresless rig as a backup rig every once in a while. But being mandatory doesn't matter here. I think a cypres fire should be a great big wakeup call to anyone. What happens next depends on the situation, but it's their choice. Cypres fires happen, and they have happened, or would have happened, to all kinds of skydivers. I can think of a lot of better reasons to yank someones license. I mean, do you propose to take away anyone's license that gets caught with a misrouted chest strap, or makes some other possibly fatal error? I'd rather take away the license of anyone that recommends using the 45 degree exit separation rule or something that could kill someone else. Now after 2 cypres fires, alright, they're in the wrong sport. A former rigger of mine has, according to legend, 6 cypres fires. Skydiving isn't for everyone! Dave

Psychological for who? The jumper, or Bill? (j/k) Dave

I see no difference. Is it not an extra risk to drive with no seatbelt, or use powertools without safety glasses, or skydive without a helmet? They are all quite possible, and can be done with no injury. But it is safer, and therefore less risky, to use those safety devices. By choosing not to use them, you are taking an extra risk. And in the case of a cypres, I always add "at least in the views of some people," since many believe the cypres ADDS risk. Other than that, I completely agree with you. I am disagreeing with Bill's assertion that a single cypresless jump makes a person a better skydiver, or a person that chooses to use a cypres on every single jump is an inferior skydiver. I'm not saying there aren't any people that do completely depend on their cypres and probably shouldn't be jumping in the first place. I'm saying that by choosing to always use a cypres, it doesn't make a person dependent on the device. It's a choice, not a dependence, for many people. Dave

Interesting... what browser do you use? Dave
-
hehe naah I did that. Had to fake the suspended page for a little while so I could get the new site up as a surprise.

I know that's not the problem. Read what http://www.skydivingmovies.com actually says... "Account for domain skydivingmovies.com has suspenders" Dave
