What's your preferred flght time measuring device(s) ?
LukeH replied to likestojump's topic in Wing Suit Flying

The csv files are created in the GPS. When connected by USB it mounts like a memory stick and you can open\copy the files. Try Paralog http://www.paralog.net/ for calculating everything you can think of from the recorded data.

What's the big deal with off landings at this DZ? Are there problems with the surrounding land owners? Are off DZ landings particularly dangerous in this area? Do they just not want to going out picking people up?
-
Towards the sky would imply facing up, when in the flying position! So unless you fly with your head sideways that would be the back of the helmet.
-
Is it possible to see the model of suit used by each competitor on each jump? Were prototype suits permitted or were they productions models only?
-
The device is Paralog compatible, and Paralog can create a subtitle file from the data, so it should be fairly straight forward to add the overlay.
-
Have you tried Paralog? It's great for analyzing the data, and can export it in whatever format you might want.

There is a newer model form Qstarz that can log at 5Hz. It's the BT-Q1000EX http://www.qstarz.com/Products/GPS%20Products/BT-Q1000EX-F.htm and uses the same chipset as the Q1300s. There are some newer units from other manufacturers, like the Wintec WBT-202, based on the new uBlox 5 chipset, and probably some SiRFstarIV based devices.

Is the screenshot you posted from the Paralog export to Google Earth? If so, try turning off the Set QNE and then re-import. You might also want to try the latest version from www.paralog.net it's up to 5.3.6

It looks like you are arching slightly and presenting your chest and face to the relative wind. That will be acting as an air-brake. Try flattening your body (lift your hips) and get the back of your head down below you back. You should also try changing the angle of attack, try steeper and flatter and see the effect. Keep in mind that it takes a while for the true effect of a change to body position to become apparent. Make a small change and they wait to see what happens, don't assume it's not working and change again. Sometimes what feels good, isn't. You need airspeed to generate lift from a small wing like a wingsuit. Quiet and slow isn't good for that.

Kris, you are making the mistake of thinking that Mattt gives a flying fuck about the truth. The truth is not as important as selling suits. The point is propaganda not truth. Him own videos trip him up, as is plain for anyone with eyes. Anyone know if the latest is edited in real time? Looks a bit funny (funny strange) and fast, maybe he's put on some weight, or maybe he found the handbrake? ... what would I know I'm just a biased PF Dealer

If you do decide to change it, look into the Shadow, it's like an Acro on Steroids :-) http://www.phoenix-fly.com/products/wingsuits/phoenix_fly_shadow

It's really sad to see that the WS forum has degenerated into schoolboy bickering, brand promotion and self validation. Y’all sound like a bunch of 15 year olds arguing over Mac V PC. Can you not just keep the narcissism & outrageous performance lies to facebook or something? This forum used to be a useful source of information, now the majority of content is recycled worthless drivel. P.S. my Birdman jeans get a GR of 1:1.618

Space, You spelt your name wrong. Be careful, slop in one aspect of one's life....

I've dislocated my right shoulder twice. Was back jumping 5 weeks after the first time, and a couple of months after the second. How well you will do really depends on the type of injury, your age and recovery process. In my limited experience, Wingsuit is less stressful on your shoulder than say freeflying. The suit restricts your range of motion to be like a hinge. Both times, my shoulder came out forwards (anterior dislocation I think this is by far the most comon type) so the pressure in normal belly to earth is holding it in rather than stressing it. As someone else said you will never recover completely. Your shoulder capsule will have stretched, how much depends on your age, the injury type, how long it was out etc. Talk to your physio. Be careful of both positions with your arms up (above your head) and with shoulder muscles relaxed... Thats how I poped mine out the second time, sinking down while tracking on my back... had been rotating from front to back on the jump, so putting lots of stress on it...

Hi Tony, Nobody like's a sore loser, don't worry about it - I got beaten by Paddy that day too, he was on fire. To be fair he did beat you by a quite a margin and had only made about 5 previous WS jumps in 2007. I've seen the video it's an epic, lost of nice shots but not sure what your point is, are there competition jumps in there or something? Was the guy with the camera trying to beat you? It looked like he was doing a good job of framing you so I assumed they were 2 way jumps not races. Cinque Terre sure is a nice walk. We'd love to have you back for a rematch any time. Take care - Luke

Pictures of the winners, wearing cheesy grins!

There wasn't an official announcement, but is was mentioned in a thread a while ago. This weekend was the national canopy piloting and wingsuit competition. We weren't trying to attract a crowd but were delighted to have Tony & Liz as guests. Tony is a blast and a good sport. He'll be in Europe for a couple of weeks, maybe you can catch up with him else where.

The flock that never flew

This weekend the first ever Irish wingsuit competition was held at the Irish Parachute Club The competition was a single-elimination tournament for distance. Exit altitude was 7,500ft racing to 3,500ft (must register opening altitude of at least 3,000ft), judging was done from the ground. Strangely enough (for cloudy Ireland) we had blue skies for the morning of the competition. Sadly the clouds rolled in just after the competition finished and Sunday was a complete wash out so there was no flocking The Results: Open Category (4 entrants) 1) Patrice "The Yellow Bullet" Roleandt - V1 2) Tony Uragallo - Mercury suit Junior Category (6 entrants) 1) Padraig Browne - Phantom 2) Peter Breen - GTi 3) Fenton Murphy - Prodigy

Don't joke about it, you know in Yuorop you can buy a beer in McDonalds! Just don't ask for a quarter pounder with cheese or freedom fries in France. Cool video, nice flying guys. Edited second time to add: Actually i just edited the first time to add the complement

i was hoping to not get sucked into such a discussion, these forums have a tendency to be viewed without tone and people can get very defensive very quick. i didn't mean to offend anyone or their flying creation. disclaimer: i am not sponsored and don't work for any manufacturer, as such i don't have an agenda unlike some others that post on this forum regularly. i do hold an agency for PF because i feel they offer the best in terms of Design, Quality and Service. the people that order suits through me are generally friends that already know what they want, it's not a commercial thing for me. any comments i post are strictly my own opinion based on my own observations. this is not always the case, it depends on the design of the suit. a suit with small wings can out glide a suit with a greater surface area. Weight doesn't really come into glide ratio, only speeds (vertical and horizontal) i'll be the first to hold up my hand and say i know very little about aerodynamics, but this is basic stuff - you should know this. naturally you are trying to flog your suits so you claim it's the best, but there is no need for blatant untruths... i've seen posts of yours where you admit having been out flown.(the one where you showed that you thought max glide and max distance were different) didn't you also claim ludicrous glide ratios that just aren't possible from sustained flight in any suit. i'm sure your suit is great, let the suit do the talking. I've owned 3 different type of suit and still own 1, unfortunately a dislocated shoulder has kept me from jumping if for the last 3-4 months . it's not a pissing contest, try and keep the discussion constructive. no need for BASE v Skydiving, brand wars, flocking v max distance ... blah blah blah.
-
dear dutch druggie ... no need to turn this into a BASE v Skydivers thing. it's not really relevant some of the 'bigger suits' can have performance too. but "bigger is better" isn't always true (although i believe this was a quote from a BM rep about the beer can holders) whatever your playground and whatever your game isn't really relevant (except perhaps for endurance). don't get too wound up by sarcastic quips! and no need to attack a whole different sport because you don't like the comments of a few people. c-ya
