  1. That's the idea. I don't know if it already does that, but it should be possible and fairly easy to do.
  2. I think it's using the Universal time as provided by the GPS satellites for the time, don't think the device has a clock. I assume you want to adjust the time/date used in the file names? If so an offset could probably be added to the settings file but it would be easier and more efficient to continue using Universal Time on the device and convert to local time in whatever software you are using to look at the data. It should be possible for the software to automatically pick up the timezone and daylight saving offset using a web-service e.g. http://www.askgeo.com/ http://www.geonames.org/export/web-services.html#timezone http://www.earthtools.org/webservices.htm#timezone Para-log already does something similar to look up place names, so it should be fairly easy to add this.
  3. Wasn't there also a blue and green poly cotton suit that had lots of velcro? I see to remember Sully trying it on after the very first flock and dock. It was basically like a huge camera wing with a leg wing added. It had never been previously jumped, but I think Sully may have put a jump on it.
  4. Sounds good. So long as it easy to mark the exit, opening and landing points and calculate average GR, speeds etc you should be on to a good thing (auto detection would be great, but it's difficult to get right so easy manual adjustment is a must). Paralog and FlySight viewer are great, but it's still tedious to get this basic info. I assume it'll have the option to apply PPC style mask to a jump to view the competition performance? And submit jumps to PPC? An android app that connects to it or at least a smart phone usable web-interface would be nice too.
  5. Maybe the list can be organised into a few sections? -Currently commercially available -Previously commercially available -Non-commercial / Protoype It would also be nice to have the year first and last commercial available for the commercial models, and year made for the others.
  6. you can see what suits people have logged on PPC here: http://www.paralog.net/ppc/showequipments.php Sugar Glider came before the GS1. If you want to start listing one-off suits we'll be here quite a while. Yves Rosy made at least one suit I think. Julian Boole has lots of suits, all different/unique. VKB Grusomme Gratis Gunda (G3) and others. S-Fly "integrated" suit. Lurch has made a few suits. A few other people have made their own clones of existing suits.
  7. Birdman - Impact (yes they really called their BASE suit that!) I think there was an MTR 3 (maybe it never got released) Pressurised had a wingsuit, I think it was called Trigger. Don't forget the attack of the clones with Tracking suit, Pirana, Manta & Shark.
  8. What software is the screen capture from?
  9. I've made a few minor updates to the software. Mainly to tidy up the code and add options to silence the device below a preset altitude or if more than a preset distance from the destination. You can download the compiled software from: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13230955/Main.hex Sample config file for navigation: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13230955/CONFIG.TXT Instruction on how to install are here: http://flysight.ca/wiki/index.php?title=Firmware_upgrade It should work OK, but hasn't had lots of testing, specifically it hasn't been tested in different hemispheres which may effect some of of the calculations. I suggest testing on the ground in a car before taking to the air.
  10. With your previous experience I would have thought going straight into a Phantom/Indy/R-Bird type suit would have been the logical next step, I don't follow the reasoning behind Phantom > Intro > T-Bird > R-Bird. It's hard to believe that it's a better financial option renting all of those suits rather than buying an intermediate type suit (new or second hand) at the beginning, putting at least 100 jumps on it (perhaps a few hundred jumps) and then if you decide to change it - sell it on. I know there is a huge demand for second hand Phantom 2s and presumable for other comparable suits so you'll have no trouble selling on unless you are a very odd shape or pick hideous colours. I thought the rental program was more aimed at people that were brand new to WS and weren't sure if they wanted to commit to sourcing and buying a suit until they had a few jumps to decide if it was something they really wanted to do more of. Maybe it makes sense if you are somewhere with full-time DZs and can make lots of jumps in a short time.
  11. Maybe the OP was genuinely trying to be helpful to the community. Maybe he's just been too busy to check back and answer any questions...
  12. But that's not true GR. It would be better to treat the cause rather than the symptom.
  13. Yuri is a legend and freak of nature by all accounts - much like Loic, but even so 2.4:1 in a classic is a tall order/story. Perhaps with a tail wind and thermal lift he could have made it back but I thought it was closer to 2.1:1 than 2.4:1 to make it? I hear Yuri flew a Prodigy (the original model) to the landing area in Italy, that's at least 1.7:1 What's becoming very apparent is that in the BASE environment thermals and updrafts are starting to have a bigger effect. Just look at the extra lift Charley has close to the wall in Brazil. That aside, the unverified references I've heard to Deug's GR are 1.5:1 - 1.7:1 so it's taken 13 years to add another 1:1. Not really, weight shouldn't have a bit effect on GR, it will increase speed in both directions but GR will be un-effected by only changing weight. For floating, it's better to be as light as possible with as much surface as possible. But if you want to stay up for hours, I'd recommend Paragliding or Viargra
  14. The graphs for the comp make interesting viewing. It looks like there wasn't an opportunity to build up speed in a long dive before the competition window like in some of the other comps. Was this intentional? Tail winds aside, some of the other tracks on the website are ridiculous. The top 4 results in the distance challenge have 1,800ft + of diving just to get a huge G\R spike (> 4:1) in the competition window. I assume this is not against the rules, but as some people entering don't have the extra altitude to burn it makes the comparisons unfair.
  15. Thanks, I was looking on the other site: http://www.wingsuitcompetition.com/ppc/showevents.php
  16. Jump uploaded here. The summary may not be a fair representation if you weren't flying for competition rules, but the overall jump stats are below. Lookign at the data in Paralog I'm getting slightly different figures to those from your Altitrack. I suspect the Altitrack is struggling to correctly detect the exit and canopy opening. The numbers from the Flysight log in Paralog: (LZ 1,358ft above MSL) Exit Alt: 12,174ft Opening Alt: 2,462ft Distance fallen: 9,712ft H Distance covered: 4.364miles (23,042ft) Freefall time 179 seconds (exactly where the opening is is arguable, could be up to 181 seconds but noticable change in flight mode at 179 seconds) Average fall rate: 37mph (60KPH) Average forward speed: 87mph (140KPH) Average GR: 2.37:1 BTW you can edit the GR range in the Flysight config to go above 3:1 so it doesn't go silent.
  17. Sure, I'll upload it later this evening, going out now. Talk to Klaus about the problem you are having with Paralog, it's worth getting it working and he is very helpful!
  18. Actually I think he's poking fun at you being a pedant. The point is that even if you want to be a pedant, your own point \ argument trips you up too. This thread is depressing.....
  19. Was there a WS competition in Italy in the last few weeks? I remember hearing about the event but don't see any threads about it? Was it held? If yes are the results available anywhere?
  20. Do you have a copy of Paralog? If not you should look into getting one, it comes in versions for OSX as well as Windows and Linux. It has a built in facility to upload the data to the PPC website. Otherwise if you attach the log file from Flysight I'm sure someone will upload it for you. It can also take your alti-track data, but that's just fall rate so not as interesting. Spikes don't mean anything, it's spike for a reason and there is a big dip before it. We've seen spikes of 7:1 on Ludo's videos, didn't mean anything there either. From the graph the average glide looks like 2.2 to 2.3 to me, but hard to tell. 2.5:1 - 3.0:1 without significant thermals and\or tail wind seems to be where the best flyers are at with last years suits. I'd even be skeptical about how long the upper range of that can be maintained.
  21. From my very limited knowledge I think that it's best to point these type of GPS devices directly at the sky, so back of helmet would be the ideal position for belly flying. The log file records the number of Satellite fixes and the accuracy. So you should be able to see how it's performing in the position you are using, and compare to other positions.
  22. It's always nice to hear positive feedback about businesses. Out of curiosity, how many different models did you rent, for how long, and roughly how many jumps did you make on them?

My Advice is to fill out your profile so you don't look like a troll and bitch slap the "experienced flier" You should have more experience on the P2 before buying a bigger suit. Why do you feel you need a bigger suit? To advise you better on what suit would be best people would need to know your height, weight and type of flying you will mainly be doing, flocking, solos, competition, camera, BASE etc. Neither of the two you mentioned are a good choice for your experience, the Ghost 3 may be an ok idea, depending on the answers to the above and assuming that if you ordered you'd have more jumps on the P2 by the time you started jumping it. The best idea is to save the money and spend it on jumps and some coaching for now.
  24. For someone so smart, I guess you're deliberately missing the point? Huge suits (from any manufacturer) suck for general skydiving and most flocking. And even more so if you are tall and/or light. If you are into long flights or v high performance flocking that's a different story. A decent flyer in a P2/Shadow or similar suit can easily fly at ~2:1 with a
