I doubt I would go to a country where I don't fully understand the language to learn a sport as dangerous as skydiving. That would just be plane stupid.... You don't spend the kind of money he spent and get remembered for much else but yes I think he broke just about every record. Probably set a few that will not be broken anytime soon. I don't remember his personal best but I believe it was over 40 jumps in one day. He was going a little too fast for his own good though. Numbers do not reflect experience in all cases. Not sure if I should start a new thread for this but here it is. Anyways for your consideration... As you all know Al Frisby passed away a few months back and I am helping his daughter Stacy with the disposal of his worldly possesions. Among the items found in the loft was this Akai Portable VCR setup with camera and helmet. I have been able to make everything light up and run but there is no RF out so it needs to be looked at by a technician. I am not sure what should be done with this thing. It comes with 10 video tapes and one seems to have video on it. It seems that this equipment must have belonged to Dick Pedley as his name is on the front of the camera helmet. Does anyone have any ideas what I should do with this? Anyone know Dicik Pedley or his family? Pics included... About Tom Sanders. He was video taping 1st jumpers from the DC3 using a JVC system in 1981 if I remember correctly. It had a seperate recorder that mounted on your chest and a camera on the helmet like this one. But the last few in flight emergencies that I have witnessed or heard about were nothing more than pure panic followed by screaming running jumpers getting out as fast as they could hit the door, and without the pilot commanding them to do so. Thus it seems to me that there is little or no training on the subject. Either that or everyone forgot... I did not ask because I did not know. I asked because it is perfectly clear that there are people out there (many of them) who have no idea what to do during an in flight emergency. I am not a jump master so I wanted a reply from a KNOWN knowlegable person. One thing I noticed during a possible in flight emergency years ago was that the pilot didn't know what to do. This was obviouse because he was screaming "NO.... Don't GO!".... everyone knows what that translates to in a noisy crowded airplane full of panicing jumpers. It sounds just like GO! That is the reason for the term EXIT EXIT EXIT.... If you don't hear that you are supposed to stay in your seat and shut up. I have video of a very successful emergency exit by about 25 jumpers out of a DC3 back in the early 80s. Everything was fine and no one was hurt. Everyone did a hop and pop. Would someone with accurate knowlege please list the procedures (for both pilots and jumpers) for an In Flight Emergency? A tornado or microburst hit Perris Airport today near the end of the Ultralight Runway and took out 5 or 6 hangars. Some ultralights were destroyed while others were untouched. People were inside the hangars when they went over... Here is a movie clip of the damgage. Not True... Plenty of people have been seriously injured in wind tunnels and it won't be long before someone is killed in one... Especially when the rotors give out and fall on the unsuspecting flyers. This will happen because someone at the top has bribed the maintenance guy to sign off stuff that was not properly attended to... I know this happens as a fact... I'm really kind of surprised at the replys I got from my statements. I thought I would get flamed by most over this... To those of you who wonder why I don't just take my business elsewhere... There are two local DZs here. I was banned for life from one, my home DZ which got new owners who knew nothing about skydiving when they purchased the place. They banned me for bringing up a couple of safety concerns that I had brought to the attention of the UNPAID s&ta at the time. They also told the UNPAID s&ta to stay off their dropzone. John Desantis had a little chat with them about that and told them that if they ever threatened one of his s&tas again that they would lose their group insurance. But I still was not allowed back on the DZ and am not allowed to this day. The other DZ is the only one I have left unless I win the lottery so I can afford two tanks of gas every time I want to go skydiving. And they just don't listen at all. So I opt to land out all the time now. These swoopers even break the rules that the DZ has plastered all over the grounds and they still never get talked to much less grounded. Only rules they have is that in light and variable winds you land south to north. They end up landing down wind all the time. And the other rule is that the first person down sets the direction, BUT they can't set the direction down wind. They do it all the time. I was almost killed by a board jumper who had no business being on a board. This was at 200 feet and he had no business in my air space. Only thing I can think of is he pulled WAY too high... I complained. No one talked to him. He stayed there a week and kept doing dumb things. I opted to make sure he wasn't on my plane when I manifested. I have too many years in this sport to just give it up so I will continue to stay current but that's about it till I move somewhere that has a somewhat safer atmosphere.
