  1. I really can't believe you can't get that done in London. Warmbaths, a town 150km North of Johannesburg, South Africa, has 2 riggers. There must be one in London. If not, it's time to redefine what "3rd World" means. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. I'm in Africa and currently (try to) conform with a 6 month reserve repack cycle on my two rigs. Fastest reserve opening I ever had was 3.5 years past it's 6 month repack date, or 4 years after packing. I had a Tandem reserve malfunction that was well within date. I think if you don't fall down a lot, one year seems to make a lot of sense. I marked 1 year on the poll. t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. There's only one import I choose! t It's the year of the Pig.
  4. Lucky you! Same thing happened to Jonathan Seagull! You have a great future ahead of you. I've attached the book if you're interested. t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. Was that before or after the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster? I had issues with Trillian. In my mind's eye she was really, really hot, but knowing she was English made me imagine her with horrible teeth and a bit of an overbite. Thankfully my imagination created her with shoulder length hair, but I know under that - her ears would stick out.. t It's the year of the Pig.
  6. Agreed. I've been in "serious" teams for both FS and CF. I've been on "serious" bigger skydives, and I've had some "serious" things happen during AFF and Tandem, but that hasn't stopped me from enjoying the fun side of the sport. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. I thought Trillian was the chick Zaphod had the hots for in Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy... t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. You sound wise beyond your jump numbers.
  9. That's the most important line, I think. I guess my path is clear then. Keep learning, keep teaching, keep enjoying. Thanks for the insight. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. Yes, but there are no body type categories. If you are a 70kg, 1.2m wingsuit pilot, I'm guessing you would need to compete in that weight category against other people who weigh 70kg and are 1.8+ m. Saying you're "heavy boned" will gain no favour in any sport that judges on weight. I really never meant this to become reasons why we should NOT compete, but maybe it gives the answer I was looking for. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. That's what I meant by "Kinda winged freefly." t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. In the beginning, there was darkness. Then the earth cooled, and the Dinosaurs came, and went. Mammals evolved and Style and Accuracy competition began... Then came FS. (Then RW, and we all knew what the "W" stood for.) Then CF. (Also changed from CRW) Then Freestyle... Then Skysurfing (Which looks set to visit the Dinosaurs) People started to play a LOT in the mid 90's, it seems, and Freeflying/VRW seemed to develop out of that funny spandex pants winged sleeve sit flying stuff and developed into something really cool. (The ugly duckling legend) "Sport Accuracy" became "Canopy Piloting" and was recognised by the FAI. There are always a few "outside" types of skydiving not recognised by the FAI. Speed skydiving and Atmonauti are two, and wingsuits are another. How does one go about getting the FAI to take a disipline seriously and to recognise it? I think the most obvious way is to start to compete at a local level. Largest flock. greatest distance. longest time, and even a kinda winged freefly seem to be the most obvious means of doing this, at as many different places and events as possible. Any other suggestions? t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. Those guys from spain have a chunk of jumps! Seems I'm not the only old dog learning new tricks! Congratulations to all! t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. 7 cell, low aspect ratio, nose down trim. Rock stable in a bump and can take a knock. t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. I'm a Ferrari 360 Modena! "You've got it all. Power, passion, precision, and style. You're sensuous, exotic, and temperamental. Sure, you're expensive and high-maintenance, but you're worth it." Lot's of skydiving Modena's, it seems. At least I have the right colours on my wingsuit... now if only Michelin build another set of crap tyres, I may see my team win the US GP again this weekend! t It's the year of the Pig.
  16. Straight out the door - but the RHS tends to take them back a bit which create the gap for the LHS. I've never had any issues using this, but as I said, only 200 odd of my 1900+ AFF's have been rear door 206. I'm also not massive, 5'11, 170 lbs. Large people may struggle more out of small doors. t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. Near impossible with huge variables on early Level students, and usually both instructors will have only one grip in place on exit. I only have about 200 of these, but what I use is RHS Instructor full float with left grip on students legstrap and right grip on aircraft. I prefer right foot in corner of the door, but have seen some use left. Student on floor of aircraft on the edge, with left knee down and right knee up, both hands on right knee. Squish the student as far towards the tail as you can. LHS instructor both grips in place, head and at least left shoulder out the door. Student does check left, check right, forward, back, arch. (or ready set go if you prefer) RHS Instructor drops off and collects the students arm on the way. Don't surf in this position. You want to drop off as vertically as possible. LHS instructor stays crunched up until it starts to settle and the formation is less steep, then unfolds. DON'T use your head. Keep eye contact with the other Inst. This goes for both of you. If it looks like the LHS is coming over the top, RHS can turn the "tray" to the right and put it down on the other side. t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. Hey Erik. Fill out your profile. t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. No, I wouldn't pound him. (Or create an oportunity to let him pound me. No fight, no lose..) He stood back to back with Bailey Edmunds against a band of belicous gypsies at the world air games in.. Croatia? And I was there when he was all fucked up after the Otter crash in Perris with Air moves. I have huge respect for his skill, dedication and commitment, but that's no reason for not learning the truth about how run-ins work. t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. That's excellent advice. Thank you. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. If you earn money with your rig - it seems prudent to spend money to keep it going. At our DZ I can be manifested on 10 back to back loads. Having a rig down means it either costs me money - or I need to borrow gear, and I don't borrow gear on working skydives. The annual order is easy to time and perform, and goes along with a new set of batteries in my Dytter. (Neptunes need a more regular replacement cycle.) My line sets are checked at 200, 400, 600 and replaced at 800. I used to have shocking gear, and had many avoidable malfunctions. After a tandem reserve malfunction my faith in reserves disipated somewhat, and maintenance is now my 1st line of defence. t It's the year of the Pig.
  22. I have to call bullshit on this. You looked at the brake. It looked "a bit funny." Stuff doesn't just come undone, and if it does, it's old, worn and needs to be replaced. Different manufacturers give different lifetimes for components. I jump a Mirage, and I think it's 400 dives on a set of risers. That may seem early to many, but if you stick to the manufacturers recomendations - you'll have less exciting stories to tell in the long run. I replace bag, risers and PC on an annual basis. It works out OK for me. t It's the year of the Pig.
  23. [thread hijack]Will that BULLSHIT never go away? I train my AFF students on time across the ground. We have a chart in the plane with the delay in seconds depending on the upper winds. It's important - cos a Porter isn't fast, so if someone gets out after you, the chance of interference is high... And I have these same former AFF students sprouting "45 Degree" rule bullshit to me before they get to 40 jumps. I'd love to catch the fucker teaching that shit. t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. I dug this thread up for 2 reasons. 1. After careful consideration, I started to do riser turns, and have about 900 now. My swoops have improved dramatically. 2. An old friend and team mate dropped a toggle on a riser swoop this past weekend and femured, so the dropped toggle remains a risk. t It's the year of the Pig.
