  1. Nice - Practical too, will stay looking clean for a long time! t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. Hi Ian, Any idea when you'll be releasing prices? I've heard rumours that everything will be dollar based. That's not all bad news for those of us within SA. We've already reached the point where a stock G3 is cheaper than a Vortex 2 with options. Blue Skies, t It's the year of the Pig.
  3. 2 seconds sounds about right to me. In that time, your pilot chute needs to inflate, pull tne pin, lift the bag, unstow the lines, and it is only when the final lines unstow that you will begin to transision to an upright position in the harness. 2 seconds is fine. t It's the year of the Pig.

    Ambivalence

Most fear is fear of the unknown. When you experience fear, don't allow it to me nameless and faceless. When aproaching the door - what are you afraid of? Falling out? Dying? Not dealing with a malfunction? Flying the canopy? All of the above? Write them down. Give them persentages. Train to dispel the fear. Now look at the good stuff. Why do you want to skydive? The people, the view, the vibe? All of the above? Plot them on a graph. Down the left margin, you will have a fear/fun scale. on the bottom you will have nimber of jumps. When you start, your fear will be as high as 90%, your fun as low as 10% when those 2 lines cross, you will be a skydiver. Fear always remains. Fear of failure, fear of losing a student out the door, gear fear. It never quite goes away, even if the fear is simply one of screwing up and looking silly. I'm not a big beleiver in facing your fears. If you're an OK human, that's what counts. Not What you do. Everything else is extra. Good luck, and whatever happens, you're OK. t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. Yeah. Revenge of the frog. t It's the year of the Pig.

    Bad Pork

Hey - If it's good, you could market that stuff! Hang on, daytripper! Let us know how that turns out for you.. (and what your tongue smells like!) t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. 76? You stayed home on a crappy day? t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. We have no more than 30 days between jumps until A licence. If its more, you get a refresher but repeat the last level you passed. I've seen some students go through 10 AFF dives in 9 months without a repeat, but its rare. 3 jumps a month should be OK unless you hit a hurdle. If you do, jumping will get you through it. Waiting won't. Good luck. t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. Mmm. So in my book a pilot chute in tow would be "Shit" or does it not count cos its only a little bit of shit... but the start of a giant turd about to happen... I teach Cut Away - Pull reserve. No thinking - 1 drill. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. Don't put your hand through the prop. The prop will go through your hand. Jumping microlights is a lot of fun, but do multiple practice climbouts on the ground, and if the pilot is accomodating, stop the fan for exit. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. I'm guessing being "Cat 1" that you are jumping in SA. If that's the case then you must have been through backloops on levels 6, level 7 and Level 8/1. The reason we do them 1st on the dive is so that you have maximum altitude to get stable. The fact that you went head down is normal. How would you go over backwards and not be head down for a moment? If you stay head down, look at the ground and you'll level out nicely, and gain a bit of forward speed too! Skydiving is fun!
  12. Best friend? Without a doubt, but also gives me better life guidence than anyone I've ever known. Skydives too. I'm a lucky guy.
  13. Hi Steve. since you mention it... I have, but being "left eyed" means that even shooting a pistol from weaver stance exposes my left ear more. Ironically, about 90% of my 250 000 rounds fired from both pistols and rifles in training have been from sound suppressed weapons. I've always worn hearing protection in training. (Peltor Tactical) The only time I have not used hearing protection while shooting is in a gunfight. It's the year of the Pig.
  14. And if you're not single - there is no better arguement for sticking to your man! t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. A burlesque? I can see us on the path to epistolary intimacy! t It's the year of the Pig.
  16. Swearing (That's cussing to you Aggie) is the crutch of the conversational cripple. Opps. Did I just offend some disabled people? t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. So that would be time to waste, then? t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. All the stuff in physics was IN A VACUUM. You are not falling in a vacuum. That's why surface area is an issue. t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. Oh God. How can you get away with telling everyone to kick everyone elses ass. I guess that means that every tourist in your country just got his or her ass kicked for not putting their hand over their heart for your anthem. Talk about personal attacks. It's the year of the Pig.
  20. No Vote for cool? I worry about some piercings though. I had a friend take a fall when rock climbing and rip out a nipple ring, and being punched in the eyebrow when it's pierced is a garenteed split. I think the best ones are inside (tongue - ) or genital. Easier to hide, and only those close to you know. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. We have 3 lists. One for general members, one for instructors/jumpmasters, and one for the commitee that manages the club. t It's the year of the Pig.

    AGE!!??

I'm a 41 year old monkey. It's not where you start. It's where you finish!
  23. Hi Bill, I'm CI at my DZ. To quote PASA BSR's "A CI/SO or SJO may prevent any individual from participating in sport parachuting activities under his supervision, if in his opinion the individual constitutes a threat to the safe conduct of the activity." So at my DZ, it doesn't matter what other people's opinions are. I've been skydiving for 18 years, and my position at the club is a) elected, and b) unpaid so if members are not happy with the way things run they can vote me out at the next AGM. Also in SA, I can be held PERSONALLY responsible for an incident... which gives me more leeway than I suspect you would have in the US. This is not a business. I'm not here for profit. I've never had a problem with any DZ anywhere in the world, ever, and I don't think that they have had a problem with me. t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. You should manage the jump to 230. We have a 100 kg student weight limit (220lbs) and are 5000 feet ASL and 100 - 110F in the summer. All our students manage the move to 230, but usually only get there with about 30 dives. You grasp of canopy control, available altitude, traffic, accuracy etc sounds good. You're not a youngster, are you? t It's the year of the Pig.
