I got lucky and had the same thing happen in 98 on a hook turn. Crappy maintenance was the cause. I was not in the corner though, and so got away with it, but still got dirty and rubbed me ego some. Look after your gear. I try do a better job now. t It's the year of the Pig.

Go Stilleto. The recovery arc is longer, but apart from that the turn speed and desent rate are similar. The Stilleto will out float a heatwave on deep brakes, and also outswoop the heatwave. The heatwave will also die sooner. The silicone treated ZP made by Galvanor and used by Pisa will not last as long as the fabric used by PD, but be slightly easier to pack. I've done a bunch of jumps on a heatwave 100 loaded to about 2.0, and through to about 1.6. I currently jump a Stilleto 107 loaded to 1.7. People here are also concerned about your experience level vs your wing loading. Be careful, and have fun out there. Things can bite really quick where you're at. t t It's the year of the Pig.

There are many kinds of love. I think in our "fast food/fast love" world we sometimes don't get to know people well enough before we commit to them physically - and much as some will deny it - without the physical attraction - we would not be breeding ourselves to the brink of extinction. Once that initial desire peters out/disipates etc - if there is not a bond other than the physical - the relationship will fail. I think that suits some people - but not everyone. t It's the year of the Pig.

It's a numbers game. You get to teach people for free, sometimes for years, just hanging on for AFF, or just tossing the drouge and cruising. Then you get "one of them" They will do weird shit, and you'll invent weird shit to deal with that. And you'll be paid thousands for that one jump. I can be quite harsh sometimes. Not everyone gets their drivers licence 1st time, not everyone graduates university, and not everyone passes my 1st jump course. "Golf. Golf is for you. Go play golf." t It's the year of the Pig.

Hi Kim. I'd just like to thank you for the fantastic feedback. Nice to see the manufacturers getting involved and mixing it with their customers. I'll be jumping hard this weekend and will discuss things more with Tim Mace, and then be in touch after that - probably about a GTi if I can get one to demo. With over 15000 decents during the 2002/2003 year flying weekends only, JSC is the busiest DZ in SA. Plenty of student gear, helpful staff, from JM's, through instructors and right up to the packers and canteen ladies make this a fun place to be, and you have not experienced a bonfire party until you see over a ton of wood go up in smoke while sipping the DZ's classic brew - Buffalo Milk!

Thanks for the feedback. I'll settle for the GTi, I think, after a few more jumps on the Classic 2. There are few skyflyers out here, and as its so small, there seems to be a huge spirt to want to help. Getting a GTi demo is no problem. I think with the limited amount of dives I plan a year there is still challenge aplenty. As for the SF, I'm not too afraid of the arm/shoulder workout as rock climbing is my "other" sport - so maybe one day I'll move up the Birdman food chain! t It's the year of the Pig.

Looking at my 400 a year in slices - AFF, Tandem, FS, Freefly, CF... I'll probably get to do about 40 - 50 dives a year skyflying. Most of my dives will be alone, or with 1 or 2 other jumpers who are both more experienced skyflyers than I am. They will be jumping GTi's. At present the biggest flocking dive is a 9 way, but 4 were a LONG way off, 5 flying in about a 40 foot box. I'm pretty average bodysize. 5,11, 165 lbs, 41 years old, CI of my DZ. I have one wingsuit jump. On a Classic 2. I plan to do about 10 more on this suit, and then buy a suit of my own. I know myself well, know what I like, and follow through on what I dream about. I know the classic 2 is recomended for beginners. I have some dives though, just short of 4000, and do around 400 a year. If I do 50 dives on the classic - who do I sell to? Should I really get a Classic 2, or are GTi and Skyflyer challenges within the grasp of a current, moderatly talented, experienced skydiver? Your thoughts please. t It's the year of the Pig.

If you're considering buying a Vortex 2 because you're in South Africa... start thinking some more. It's not cheaper anymore. With the $ having fallen 25% since the threat of war first loomed, a Mirage G3 is now in the same price range as the Vortex. Do the Math. If that's not the case - what you've heard from everyone else is true. Keep your options open! t It's the year of the Pig.

Hi There, Well... after a bunch of jumps, I feel like a 1st jumper again. Did 1 jump, did OK, and now I want to learn, so you should see a bunch of questions start popping up from me over the next few months. The 1st jump was uneventful. Stable exit from a PC-6, turned off 45 degrees as briefed, flew a crosswind leg, turned downwind and felt fleeting sweet spots, pulled at 4000, borrowed gear, 1st, etc etc. Different but uneventful opening, much like subterminal from a fast plane. Bounded about for the rest of the day happy with my impending debt. t It's the year of the Pig.

Well, they're going to have vastly differing fallrates. Freefly seem to run at around 600grams - sorry - no idea what that is in imperial. Have you considered a Vladiball? do a search. It's the year of the Pig.

I get 2 meters (or yards) of Spectra. Cut to 4 lengths. Loop through lines and risers 4 times. Remove metal link. Tie knot(s) Trim Slack. Burn ends, stitch if you're paranoid. Repeat for other risers. Been doing that for 12.5 years and 3000 dives plus, no problems. Maintenance applies, but has never been needed. t It's the year of the Pig.

I use my Pro Dytter only as a back-up, in that its set for my altitudes and not the ones the student uses on AFF. I get a low battery warning as soon as 60 dives sometimes. My warning went off in early January. I've done 120 dives since then, and its still squeaking away disconcertingly at 1000 feet ocasionally. I now have 213 dives on this set. PM me and I'll let you know when they eventually go flat! t It's the year of the Pig.
