  1. And I stopped jumping a Rubis in 1997... But the French did win the CRW world meet with them a few times. Great rotation canopy in it's day. t It's the year of the Pig.
  2. This is the correct answer. With the increased drag on your lower body, there is a "mini downplane" effect that keeps the canopy in a dive/lengthens the recovery arc. This is one of the tools in a competitive swoopers toolbox. When you're low, ball up and pendulum out faster. If you're high, extend fully to lenthen the recovery arc and keep the canopy diving. To the OP. When you're swooping your body position should be knees together. That will prevent the wing from inflating - even if you're still wearing it. (I jump a Safire loaded to 1.85 at a DZ 5000ft AMSL and do a 270 front riser approach. To those anti 270 in the pattern junkies - I'm down about 2 min after the other canopies have landed.) It's the year of the Pig.
  3. Update! I just bought one. I've been thinking about getting a pond rig for some time. Found one that's been on the shelf somewhere for 9 years. Last reserve packjob is 1998. It has a Vulcan harness (Vector 2 copy) and a Sonic 150 main. Wanted something that dries fast (parapack) and can deal with a lot of repacks in it's remaining 4 years of life. Whole thing for $270. I'll probably burn the main as a ritual sacrifice.
  4. You're not alone. Many people with a lot of dives don't know much about their canopy outside of the way they normally use it. t It's the year of the Pig.
  5. I think it's an AN 2.
  6. I did some jumps on one long, long ago, towards the end of last century. My recollections were that they opened hard, and dived well, but that the toggle pressure was very high, especially when airspeed was high. I recall some severe injuries when people simply never had the power to dig themselves out of a low turn and impacted acordingly. $450 sounds steep. There are many newer and better designs that can be picked up for that price and relined that will be good for several hundred jumps. 11 jumps in ten years probably explains all there is to know. t It's the year of the Pig.
  7. Thank You. Many think that 20 would make it completely routine, but over 22 years, they still come not very often and get the adrenaline going. t It's the year of the Pig.
  8. I ran a seminar based on the recent trend of incidents, and outlined the risks I thought we were exposed to at our DZ. Some of them were present at that seminar. I have recieved some feedback which I have forwarded to the CI and the Instructor body. See the attached document. t It's the year of the Pig.
  9. Seriously - You sound like you only discovered your penis a week ago. t It's the year of the Pig.
  10. I do. I'm a much more experienced skydiver though. t It's the year of the Pig.
  11. Sigh... I know. Watching us swoopers 4 out on a run in from 5000ft, making aproaches 25 - 35 seconds apart, one by one, I realised just how different our view of canopy flight is from this team. I don't think anyone in the 8 way has less than 1000 dives. Several have 5000 plus. Clearly they are not debriefing their landings when they watch the video. Just as well the Porter only takes 10. Less chance of me being up there with them. t It's the year of the Pig.
  12. Yeah, it's funny, but they're not as in control as they think they are. There are 9 of them, landing in all directions within about 10 seconds of each other. The fact that they have goten away with it every time so far makes them think it will always be so. (And they really, really need to add some slack to their brakes. It's like watching a hobbled horserace - Pegasus style.) t It's the year of the Pig.
  13. It occured to me this past weekend watching teams land that non swoopers are a lot like seagulls. There is only one landing area, and they all know who owns it. t It's the year of the Pig.
  14. 1978. I saw a movie on TV called "Skydive" and it had a bit of everything, from pogo BASE off El Cap to (what seemed like) big formations. It took another 8 years till I found myself on a DZ and did my 1st jump, but from that day I knew what I wanted to do. t It's the year of the Pig.
  15. Blues, Ian From 1st FAI World Championships in Canopy Piloting 25-27 August 2006. "In the Distance event - a new competition record - Jonathan Tagle, USA. 99.66m which does not replace the Moledzki Record set last year, which was a performance record." t It's the year of the Pig.
  16. There was only 1 International FAI judge there, so I don't think it will be an official world record, but the distances of 112.34, 112.28 and 107.25 were Chris's scores for rounds 1 - 3. t It's the year of the Pig.
  17. I have no idea Chuck. I don't even know who Andy Anderson is. t It's the year of the Pig.
  18. Mmm. And 3 World record breaking distance runs (112.34, 112.28 and 107.25) are pretty good too! t It's the year of the Pig.
  19. Yeah, right on all counts. I hate packing. I don't like to do stuff myself. I'd rather wash dishes. But you're right. I'll try and motivate myself to stow the brakes and set the slider myself. I'm not using an RDS. Just removing the slider. t It's the year of the Pig.
  20. Pretty routine. Using a packer during training for Nationals in Canopy piloting. (along with about 4 others - and the packer was competing as well) Jump was a 5 sec delay from 4500ft. Main was an FX 93 loaded to 2.19 with 4kg of lead. Harness Mirage G4 MT Reserve PD126 R loaded to 1.61. Slider was put on incorrectly and never came down past the cascades. I tweaked the rears to try and get it down and the canopy put me on my back and spun violently. Chopped and pulled the reserve, deployment was on heading and fast, but not hard. Kept all the handles, floated above both freebag and main on my PD 126, and landed next to my freebag with a short swoop and a nice landing. Short walk to my main, all good. No blame at all to the packer. I pay for a pack job - not an opening. Other cutaways have been.. 8 on Tandems 7 from wraps/entanglements (CF) 2 on borrowed sport gear 3 on my own gear including this one. I have PD 126 R's in both my rigs. They really are great reserves. I've jumped enough reserves to know the difference. t It's the year of the Pig.
  21. I know a guy who feels like that when he's a bit hung over and constipated. He drinks a lot. It's the year of the Pig.
  22. Yup. Have a few things to do tonight, and will be there early tomorrow till Monday pm. t It's the year of the Pig.
  23. My FX 93 loaded to 2.1 had a descent rate of 36fps (2160fpm) on full drive last weekend at 3000ft AGL. (8000ft AMSL) It's cooler here now, heading into winter, so I imagine it would be even higher in the summer. t It's the year of the Pig.
  24. I got tipped twice as a Tandem master from 750 odd tandems. I've never been tipped in over 2000 AFF dives. I don't teach for tips. t It's the year of the Pig.
