I've never been on Atkins or any other diet. If I'm overweight, it's by 1 or 2 kilo's, and most BMI charts put me at 4 or 5 kilo's underweight for my height and age. I'm not a vegitarian. What I see in Africa, is that people who don't eat get thin, and then they die. What I see on the reality series "Survivor" is people getting thin, then looking normal for the reunion show. I'm not arguing with you. Most starving people are thin. You can argue against that all you like, but any picture from any famine will show the same thing. t It's the year of the Pig.

Yes. That's why I said it. Yes. That's why I said it dispite the fact that my current canopy is made by PD. And that's your opinion, which I respect. t It's the year of the Pig.

Hi Ripple, Laws of physics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed. Energy can only be transformed from one form into another form of energy. Matter cannot be created or destroyed by ordinary means. My sympathy lies with your mom. She's developed a highly efficient metabolism which burns few calories.. but millions starve to death each year. They do so because they're not being fed. Anything. If your mom was fed nothing, she would not gain weight. She would lose weight. No metabolism is so efficient that it could create more energy that the food source provides. I know I’m on politically incorrect ground here, but I want to make it quite clear I’m not talking about “All you can eat, never be hungry and lose weight” or “Eat only protein and go to aerobics 3 times a week” diets. I’m talking the “No food for you. Drink water and wait 6 months” weight loss program as currently practiced all over Africa, or the "900 calories a day and back breaking work for 12 hours or more" as in the concentration camps. t It's the year of the Pig.

I think it is that simple. Whether you take the English in 1315, the Irish in the 1840's, Ukranians in the 1930's, Jews in concentration camps in early 1940's or people in Biafra in the 70's or Ethiopia in the 80's or rural citizens of Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe today, when you feed people less - they get real thin. So thin in fact, that bodies literally eat themselves alive, and die. If you think it's a human thing, it's not. Dogs, cattle, horses etc also get thin when they don't eat. People and animals get fat when they eat. Animals use that fat when times are hard. We go to the mall every single day, and we eat. We are literally eating (and smoking) ourselves to death. The only way to get fat is to eat. The only way to lose fat, is to burn more kilojoules than you're feeding yourself. You can make that as complicated as you like, and prey on people's insecurities, and make money from diet books, or home gym equipment, but it's real simple. t It's the year of the Pig.

I'd contact PD, and ask if they built a reserve with "Oh Crap" across the bottom, and if so, who for... $1500 for a Cypress 2, G3, Sabre 2 and PD R is a good price... if you get the gear.. t It's the year of the Pig.

CRW Dawg's answer to the question.. "Why the hell are you wearing 4 hook knives?" Because I couldn't find room for a 5th? In reality, the only reason for wearing 2 is if you drop the 1st cos you're over amping. Your comment on Asteroids is noted, but can be solved with good exit seperation between groups. We're all afraid of being bashed when we post that we screwed up. Those that bash usually have not yet screwed up. (or survived) You've learned a lot, and gained experience. Remember, experience is what you get when you don't get what you want. Thanks for the post. I'm sure many of us have learned from it, and others reminded of how narrow our margins can become if we trim them down a little. t It's the year of the Pig.

Every major predator in the world follows the Atkins diet. Almost all of them are endangered. I think if you're not fat - then eat whatever the hell you like, unless you face colesterol or other dietry issues. If someone is fat, they got that way by pushing stuff into their mouths, probably while sitting down. Eat less, exercise more, or eat the same, and exercise a lot more. There's no secret to weight loss. Burn what you eat, or weigh more than you do today. t It's the year of the Pig.

How long to heal a sprained ligament?
Tonto replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ligaments take longer to heal than bone, mainly due to their limited blood (and nutrient) supply. If you KNOW it's your medial collateral, it'll be 6 to 8 weeks before it's good, regardless of how it feels. It'll never be perfect again - without surgery. In the words of the "Sunscreen song" "Look after your knees. You'll miss them when they're gone." t It's the year of the Pig. -
We all make mistakes. The trick is surviving the situations we get ourselves into, and you did a good job with the hand you were dealt. Well done. If you can track like the wind, you're never going to need to know that stuff. Tracking is a survival skill. It's your hyperspace button in a live game of Asteroids.(Asuming you're old enough to know what the hell I'm talking about..) Practice, fine tune, perfect. Do some tracking dives and hone those skills. Get hold of a Canopy Formation coach and do some Canopy formation dives. That way, when it all goes to pieces, you'll at least know what to do in a wrap/entanglement. Wraps can be entertaining when you know both of you have the time and the options to escape alive if you work together. Entanglements? I've never had a fun one. Speeds are higher and options go down as the ground comes up.. Buy and carry a high quality hook knife (or two) and wear them on EVERY dive you do. Again. Good job on going right. If you wanted to dock him, that last pic (8) required only a touch of left riser and a little brake... t It's the year of the Pig.

I wonder if this would affect traditional chinese weapons as used in Northern Chinese Martial arts such as Jow Ga? Or is learning an art also going to be banned? Baseball bats, pens, etc are next. t It's the year of the Pig.

I don't jump an ICON, and I'm not a rigger. I've seen a bunch of ICON's at our DZ now (I'm in SA) and they look OK. The features they offer should come with a higher quality build though, but I guess that's how you offer those features for a lower price than everyone else. Some components look cheap, like the ends of the cutaway housings, and the secondary riser covers. I'm not mad about the ICON logo on the back, since it's asymetrical and so makes the rig look odd from the back, but that's only my opinion. Those that ordered them seem very pleased. I'm sure you will be too. The rings at the hips that are a standard feature have only 3 attachment points, and that seems to compromise fit a little more than the 4 connection point harnesses common with other manufacturers, and the rings are not at all padded. Having said all that, I still think it offers value for money. I think that their canopies are of far higher design and build quality than the harness. I'd go pilot over Sabre 2 anyday, and have ordered a 132 specifically for a wingsuit rig I'm building. t It's the year of the Pig.

I think you should leave Buddha out of it. No one has ever killed in his name, and he is not, and never claimed to be a God of any kind. t It's the year of the Pig.

I did a season doing Tandem in the British West Indies onto Provideciales (Provo) Grace Bay Beach. The Island is 10 miles long and a mile wide. Exits were usually 2 miles out to sea on the far side of the island as winds were usually around 20 MPH. We had a boat in the water at all times, but mostly it came down to choosing who to say yes to and who to say no to. Landing a Tandem in the water is a nightmare. The boyancey of the reserve container will force the PAX's head underwater, doubtless causing panic which may hamper attempts to unhook the pax. Ensure the laterals are released below 1000ft, and I'd recomend using the Strong (Or newer RW) student harness without the safety pins in place. If you're using the older designs, remove the safety pins after opening and prior to landing. Hope this helps. t It's the year of the Pig.

12h10? On Easter Monday? I don't think so. Most people need to be at work the next day, and it's a 6 hour drive to Johannesburg.. last year most people were just hung over and packing up at that time. My GF is a freeflyer and I'm sure she'll do some dives with you. Also, there are 2 other guys who do freefly and birdman, but they're often busy doing camera for Tandems. I can't freefly much and I'm a baby birdboy... but I'm keen! t It's the year of the Pig.

It's not. There's an article on the DZ.com home page titled "Aerodyne Sponsored Instructor Program (ASIP)" that gives the details. t It's the year of the Pig.

Monday 12th April the plane will still be in Petermaritzburg, where the easter boogie is being held, so you can count that out... Midweek, there's a possibility of a few of us going to Pretoria skydiving club. They have a C-185 (Narrow body C-182 taildragger) and only offer 10 000ft, but it would be worth it to share some airtime... Petermaritzburg, 100km from Durban is open midweek by appointment, as is Skydive durban. If you're visiting your ex that's an option, but also only Cessna 182's. Skydive Cape Town is also operational midweek, with a Cessna 210, also only 10 000ft, and is 1400km from Johannesburg, and not on the way to anything else... The one weekend at JSC should be OK, although it may be quiet as a result of everyone having spent all their money at the boogie.. but I'll be there. What kind of dives do you do? Maybe I can put you in touch with some people so you get OK Dives... t It's the year of the Pig.

Well, they're Catholics. You can research that if you want. So are the IRA, so it's not like it's a new concept. t It's the year of the Pig.

WRT the rejumps, it's a personal thing rather than a DZ thing. If I make no money out of the dive, then they charge the student only slots and packjobs. Some students just need a little more airtime than others, and 2 or three extra dives seems to solve most of their problems. Of course, I only have the choice to do this on single level AFF dives. I also have very few repeats. Maybe one in every 25 AFF dives, so it doesn't apply to most students anyway. I agree with your comment on the L3 vs the L7. I think I'll go along with the velcro strap system in future. If it's happened once, it could happen again. Thanks for the feedback, t It's the year of the Pig.

you only jump on weekends ?? Afraid so... developing nation, you see.. everyone needs to work, or we'll be stuck in the 3rd world forever... Weekends only.. Sorry.. t It's the year of the Pig.
