Yeah. It's a compelling reason when you work in a very formal and potentially athletic environment and you can't wear shoes with your suit or do your job for a month and lose clients as a result of it. I nearly got fired as the company I worked for at the time saw it as a self inflicted injury. t It's the year of the Pig.

I use 2 rigs. Primary is a Mirage G4, Stilleto 107, Tempo 120 and is used mainly for AFF. Secondary is a Mirage G3, Safire 135, PD 126 R, and is used as an occasional back to back or Wingsuit rig. I jumped for 7 years before Cypres came out, and another 4 before someone bought me one as a gift after our team placed in the medals at Nationals. I'm not device dependant, and my attitude and behavior doesn't alter between cypres equiped and cypres free rigs. t It's the year of the Pig.

Well... I wore Tevas for 1000 swoops without a scratch. Then I had a dive when I was caught in the corner a bit and ripped all the skin off the top of my left foot but suffered no other injury. I've worn sneakers for the last 3000 dives. Made the same mistake about 600 dives ago - and ended up having to replace the shoe lace. That never hurt too much. t Edited to add emphisis for those who believe conditioning will protect the top of your feet on a 50 yard swoop a few inches too low.. It's the year of the Pig.

What pop star girlfriend? t It's the year of the Pig.

Michael. The others still need to learn the lesson "to finish first, you must first finish." I think the one engine rule favours Ferrari. As for those that think the season is boring with Ferrari always winning, that's the fault of the other teams. They're the ones who need to go faster, fuck up less and break less often. t It's the year of the Pig.

ANYTHING wrong, and I'm gone. I'm loading 1.8 on a Stilleto and landing 5000ft ASL, and I'd like a canopy functioning as designed to do that. t It's the year of the Pig.

Yes we do. Well then.

Ripple... If you have scars where I have scars, we're not going to be comparing ANYTHING! t It's the year of the Pig.

All valid points. Of course, I was in my early 20's in those days, and 10 foot tall and bulletproof. Now I'm in my early 40's, have a little more money to spend on my gear, and am a little wiser. The gear was in use every weekend year round (We have no off season here in Africa) and the BIG 3 rings in those days and 220 sq ft 7 cells didn't make cutaway's the difficult job they can sometimes be today. At the time, I recall my attitude being very middle of the road, and hardly at all exceptional in the lightly regulated (and very dangerous) world of African skydiving at the time. I don't think a comparison between a ZP main and F-111 type fabric reserve is a fair comparison. Do you know what the repack cycle on pilot ejector seats is? Those pilot's are valuable, and I'll give you a hint. It's not 120 days... t It's the year of the Pig.

I was mutilated dude! (If I knew you better... I'd show you my scars!) t It's the year of the Pig.
-
Ummm... Like it's not painful to be genitally mutilated on the order of your parents when you've just been born? (and the same parents who say it's OK to cut a section of your penis off can't sign a waiver for you to do a Tandem?) Some laws are fucked up... t It's the year of the Pig.

In South Africa, we have a 180 day repack cycle, so I guess by your regs, we're all out of date sooner or later. The fastest reserve opening I ever had was a day over 3 years out of date. (on a 180 day cycle.) These days, I'm quite conventional, and have my reserve repacked every 180 days whether I need it or not. t It's the year of the Pig.

Don't. t It's the year of the Pig.
-
It's also more brittle, and raises cutaway forces as the 3 rings require friction to function, something that "shiny" reduces.. t It's the year of the Pig.
-
Do we even know they were reversed (Integrity) risers? I've seen plenty of shoddily manufactured conventional 3 ring releases in my time.. t It's the year of the Pig.
-
And for that, look at the political threads.. t It's the year of the Pig.

That sucks. Do you think the AFF Instructors teaching AFF programs all over the world developed those programs? I don't charge for rejumps. What's my agenda for teaching backloops? t It's the year of the Pig.

Bwhahaha t It's the year of the Pig.

Go read the "Gear compatibility" thead in gear and rigging. Your suggestion could get someone killed. t It's the year of the Pig.

Buy a nice Tux. There was a time when I wore one once or twice a month, and I had 2 good ones. Then I kinda deformalised my life somewhat, and they disappeared. Now, if I get an invite to a formal dinner, the thought of a rented tux just sucks. If you're going to be the same shape for the next 20 years, just buy one. They don't change, and if they do, it's usually the guys in the new ones that look dumb. t It's the year of the Pig.

I'm another "2 drink limit" partygoer. Not cos I stop after two, but because 2 stops me! I also remember everything, and I'm seldom hung over. Truely a cheap date! t It's the year of the Pig.

Others have already answered this, but I'll give it a go. Most AFF is pretty boring. Some students are either loopers or spinners. The loopers go 3D on you, and I go and get them. I enjoy it. I also enjoy martial arts. Regardless of the student and how good you think they are, all of them are capable of moves that will test your skills, reflexes and capabilities beyond what you can imagine as an AFF instructor. I now have over 1300 AFF dives, and every few months I'll see something I never believed possible, but have somehow always anticipated. t It's the year of the Pig.

To demonstrate loss and recovery of stability, while under the supervision of someone who can intervene if the student gets into difficulty or cannot recover stability. t It's the year of the Pig.

I was so screwed. I needed to resign from my job and cash in my pension to cover the bills my medical insurance would not pay for. Well, my friends were all skydivers, my family is always on my side, and my SO left me for someone who could walk without crutches.. Yup. I waited about 600 jumps before I started hooking it again.

Malfunctions are not Incidents
Tonto replied to MakeItHappen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Maybe it's because they need to fill out a form called an "Incident report" after having a malfunction. t It's the year of the Pig.
