OK, I know many of you out there are riggers and many have cypress units. I am curious, based on the Rantoul cypress fire talked about in incidents section about riggers and their cypress. No names are here so please answer as you see fit! Comment as you like as well. Personally I think there are going to be a number of people jumping 12 +3months cypress units as more and more hit theis time mark... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Acme, I bet you have a look in freefall as well. I think it needs to be caught on film and posted for all to enjoy! Maybe this weekend.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Gareth, I did not think you were saying overly anything bad about an Airlocked canopy but you did seem to imply that they did not perform better then a stiletto class canopy, and that was the real point I was addressing. I just wanted to toss a few cents out there noting the fact that Brians current Samurai design is a high performance canopy that falls into the class above a stiletto but below a X-braced. Also there is a performance increase in slow speed characteristics that can be noticable with the airlocks compared to non-airlocked canopies, specifically the Stiletto that you mentioned to this point. You make a good point on the bulk issue but a ~5% increase will not really hurt most people and their containers ability to hold the airlocked line of canopies. Scott C. As a side I hope your trip to the Herc boogie went well! Looks like, from the very small amount of posts regarding it, the boogie was a great time! "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I have to polietly disagree with the assement of the airlocked canopies. If you dont like one or want one that is fine but I do think they still have a place. The Samurai is not a Jedi by any streach and is most assuradly a better performaning canopy then the Stiletto. It is comparable to the Katana. I say that from jumping both and though I do see some differences, these the canopies are in the same class IMHO. Both canopies will fall into a position well above the performance of a Stiletto but w/o some of the good and bad characteristics that have been associated with a X-braced... The X-fire 2 will fall into this category as well, above a stiletto class but below a X-braced class. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

That is only the half of that jump that was interesting. The fact the Amazon floated and I fell away should have been a clue that bad tidings were comming.. Of course that fact that we just jumped together and had not a single fall rate problem had me feeling comfortable with the fall rate.. All of a sudden Amazon shows up with basically a Balloon suit and decides to go sub 100 on her belly.. I felt so bad about me fall rate I want and turned points on my belly later that day with a sit flyer, I just must have gotten fat and now fall like a bowling ball.... oh well..... Good doing on gettng the reserve out. I will get the pics developed for the portion of the jump that I was actually there after I finish the roll this weekend, should be a good one of you there, maybe [fingers crossed] Scott C. Which mechanical altimeter do you like better?
sdctlc replied to cvfd1399's topic in Gear and Rigging
I think both are nice but would suggest you go and look at www.freefallaccessories.com. David had a great deal for people recently getting off student status and if your jump blurb is correct you might qualify. I have one and it is the best altimeter I have owned, hands down....go check them out and ask about the student offer and if its still going... FYI, I dont work for them in any way I just am VERY happy with the altimeter I have frem them... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" -
Nice review, I jumped the 120 a couple of times at Lost Prarie this last weekend and the openings were outstanding. A very nice canopy indeed! Even with no wind, 3500' and warm it landed nice. Started with a 90 then up to 270 and it did as advertised, swooped nicely for both approaches.. Good fun will be had by MB on the 97! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Does the HC-40 (or any of the HC cameras) have a LANC connection. I dont remember that they did and that was one of the reasons I was holding off?? I could be remembering that wrong right now... I have a Cam-Eye in the LANC Jack of my current Sony but can you run it to something else if the LANC is not present????? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

I know Beeze fairly well given I have been jumping with him on the 8-way team he jumps with. If he gets that look in his eye, run..... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

70% of your stopping power in in your front brakes, please elevate them to a more imprtant position on the must do list Elevate them, hell they are on the way and will be on in the next few days. They are very high, i.e. #1, on my to do list. I looked at them and they are not totally shot now but need replacement. I could get away with them for awhile but why not replace them, its an easy thing to do..... I appreciate the the thinking though, good to know somebody cares!!! Scott C. Recently got a 88 Shadow 1100. Just got it running and it freshly registered and back on the road again! Got a smoking deal on the bike but still some small things to do like needing to replace front break pads, and some other little things. The only big thing is a huge dent on the other side of tank (not in the picture). Looking for a replacement tank now but until then its road ready, oh yeah!! Scott C. Big-way, hard pull, reserve, biplane, tree landing
sdctlc replied to dgrabowski's topic in Safety and Training
If the Main is in front of the reserve I guess that it opened first... The timing was probably very close but sounds like your luckey that they did not come out at the same time. Glad your OK and hypoxia can be interesting. How long were you above 15K before you jumped. I assume that you had no OO2 the entire ride up??? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" -
You might want to have a bridle extension at the attachment point. This will lower the wear and tear on the canopy by not having to pull the topskin over to the side of the roll. Also check the attachment point periodically to be sure you are not doing any damage. When the Batwing first came out there was a problem with bridle attahments tearing/separating from the ribs. Precision reinforced the attachment point on subsquent canopy builds... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"

Do You Know The EXACT # Of Jumps You Have?
sdctlc replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I fall into that category. I really dont care that much that I will update my DZ.com profile every week. I also only log by day. Where some people log by jump I will take a line in my logbook and note all the jumps for the day i.e. "2345-2351". Just lazy I guess. I will note if somethig of interest happened. If it was a unique jump of some sort it might get its own line, but not very often. I have also been lazy enough to log an entire weekend on one line with the description of "8-way training" or something like that....... All of that said I can say that I am current in my logging overall.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!" -

Dave, I agreee and that is what I do. I have had a number of problems from the first time tandem passengers "helping" in the flare. I will let them help if it is not their first Tandem and they are in a training situation but other then that My job is to get both of us to the ground as safely as possible.... Scott C. It is on my calendar and I sent in the information that was requested. I am hoping that some more info comes out about it though. I got a little info from Keri after asking for it the other day. Come on John, do it..... "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
