  2. Not up to Nippleboy's standards. He really did set the bar pretty high! "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  3. I 100% agree with that statement... http://www.uspa.org/AboutUSPA/USPABoardofDirectors/tabid/140/Default.aspx At least 2 groups have submitted something per the request of a USPA Board Member with that request being very specific in terms of goals.. What the driving force was or support behind that from other USPA Board members or RD's I dont know for sure. I spoke to my RD this weekend as well as a AFF I/E who knows a little about it and now have a better understanding of the situation. If you cant talk to yours at least fire off a E-Mail using the link above if you don't have their contact info, BEFORE the meeting. This is a public forum and not the place where a/any decision will be made ultimately. The document that was created within the group I was asked to participate in, I think met the goals asked. Is it perfect, I wish I could say it was but given it was generated by an experienced yes, but small group of people does not make it the be all end all. As I understood it,t once we were finished it was going to go into an open review period for comment which was part of why I agreed to work on it. All of that said, Does it carry a good amount of information that can be drawn from and used to formulate something different if that is what ultimately is decided, I hope the answer is a resounding yes. I stated above I don't think the system is completely broken as it is but I do think it can be improved and this discussion having been generated by the editorial and then the public link to a proposal hopefully will lead to that.. If nothing else people should agree, after readig the thread here, that the minimum standards need to be adheared to given so many posters in this thread, even some of the ones railing against the idea of a WSI, have noted knowledge of wingsuit flights by under experienced jumpers and classes being taught by manufacturer Instructors, not just one manufacturer program but all of them.. IF you want or don't want to have some program, IF you want the recommended (and I would say accepted) standards to fly a wingsuit be bumped up to a BSR, IF you feel an expansion of the Wingsuit section in the Sim will help, of IF you want nothing --> take a minute and use the link above.. 4. I agree with what every body has been talking about with the experience level of you and the correct suit to jump so I wont add... That said, what I will add is that I love the exits from the SkyVan. Fav was the Guy in the Black and Grey T-Bird (looks like) at 52 sec! He jumps up after turning around and completely opens up, hovering in the door, filling it up and waiting for the fun to begin. As soon as he hits the lower wind stream with the tail, BAAMMMMM, he is doing head down relative to the wind. Gave me my chuckle for the Morning! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  5. WOW!! This is really getting a lot of discussion. I wanted to chime in here to at least give my point of view.. I was asked to review and give opinion on the proposal with the next step being asked to give comment and add to the existing (at the time) rough draft sections. I was asked as a very active member of the wingsuit community in terms of active jumping, Organizing at various Boogies, involvement in the record jumps and future attempts and of course FFC training of which I do not rely on in any terms of my overall $ viability in real life.... When approached, it was my understanding that there was at least 1 other group working towards a similar proposal for USAP and the beginnings of this came from members of the USPA Board looking into an increased involvement from the USPA with WS community. That said, the opportunity to be involved in the future direction of WS training was worth helping out with, a little of being in front of the train compared to getting run over with it attitude. Through conference calls and a fair bit of back and forth discussion amongst the named group, we generated the proposal that Justin made public. Is it perfect, well obviously a lot don't think so but at the same time this group felt the need to and had a stated goal of working within the existing USPA SIM/IRM format. This was paramount in the formulation of the proposal but so was the need to eventually get open feed back on the proposal as was stated in the documents which is where we are now. My participation was also encouraged by the possibility that some involved members of USPA Board were looking at more wingsuit regulation (editorial that sparked by this thread given as an example) . My personal opinion is that WS training and self regulation has previously been good but with the extremely fast growth and a wide range of Instructor abilities leaves a system that is not with out faults. Looking through the posts and the statements in this thread either for or against the belief that our self regulation is working, it is obvious that there is a big difference of opinion. My personal feeling is that some additional testing to consolidate to an accepted standard both for First Flight Participants and for the people giving the FFC's, e.g. the WSI's, would not be a bad thing... I think we can all agree that there is an accepted standard that should be adhered to with the 200 in 18 months or 500 total. Is the term "WingSuit Instructor" the big bugaboo for people?? Would an Advanced Coaching rating be a better fit??? Leve it as it sits now and hope something does not come our way later we did not work at creating??? I don't know for sure and the point of an open discussion is to better gain that understanding. Given the parameters of my involvement in the process to date, We put forth a program that met our goals when we became involved as a group: --> One that fits into existing USPA instructional structure --> One that does not deviate from the accepted "Standard" for beginning WS flyers --> One that would add a level of consistency in to training FFC's and --> One that would help standardize the minimum requirements for the people teaching Wing Suit flying based on teaching and flying abilities. I think the proposal does met those goals and has moved on to the "Open Discussion" mode. No idea if it will get accepted or not by USPA now, later or never but I do hope it has raised a level of awareness that we all have a responsibility to not only skydiving but also our wingsuit sub-group in the sport. Countless hours has been spent on this not to hurt the system but to help it. Taken in that context I believe that the proposal can help move us to an agreement or common ground and improve the sport. This proposal has not yet passed and if it does as is or in some variation or not at all, increased awareness is NOT a bad thing though sticking your head in the sand to save the same old same old will put us squarely in a bad position. 11. Jumped a Sigma 15mm for a long time and loved it. Now I have a Canon 10-22 and Love it more! Between the Canon and the Sigma Zoom the Canon is a bit better... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/351542-USA/Canon_9518A002_EF_S_10_22mm_f_3_5_4_5_USM.html A little more but really nice lens... 12. That is Fantastic news!! Looking forward to seeing him in a few weeks... Heal up Spot, I expect to see you making an appearance at the Boogie......
  13. First of all get a new log book and start where you left off. But to "Fill in" the gaps ask for a print out or some sort of DZ record of the jumps you made. Most operations run a manifest program and can pull your records with them if you need. The number of DZ's that you have jumped at will dictate what you can get and maybe how easily you can. If most of your jumps are from your Home DZ then I am guessing you can get a good chunk back.. Good Luck... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  14. Absolutely NO! "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  15. That is an Awesome statement of Fact! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  16. John, You are just a wild man! As a side we did not get teh WS jump in at Ritz? How about a WS jump on Sat.... I have 3 new adjustable Intros and i am sure one will fit! Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  17. I plead innocence here, I did not Double Manifest, I was manifested buy others Double so dont blame me. I guess I need to bring a second rig then... Scott C. (BSR or SDCTLC whatever....) "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  18. Maybe I am looking at the Pic wrong????? Is the WS flying somewhat "at" the canopy from the front, not directly head on but with a closing speed being increased over the WS flight speed? "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  19. While dialing it in, put smoke on the canopy pilot to give the exact flight angle to come in on while chasing with the Wingsuit. Makes it easier to see the line... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  20. As has been stated, you can stall any jump plane given the right circumstances.. Even the trusty Otter can get got if your doing just the right (wrong) things. I have been on numerous loads with 20 ways where we hold back the last 4-5 or even 6 jumpers in the formation, back up near the Pilot. When they see the outside floaters and the chunk start to go they quickly move to the door. Basically as they are moving towards the door they most likely are right with the divers leaving just in front of them giving no real delay or gap if it is done right. This takes a good bit of the aft weight away helping with the CG. With only a few jumps out of a PAC personally, I am guessing it was not a 12 way chunk and keeping a few jumpers up towards the spar "hump" up closer to the pilot would help on CG while not hurting exit speed. Just a thought. Maybe one of the jumpers that does more RW at a PAC DZ can chime in.. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  21. The trick, in my experience of flying with a canopy, after a number of tries is getting the canopy to go fast enough forward to get into the envelope of flying the Wingsuit. Usually getting the vertical fall speeds is not hard but the WS wants to go too fast forward to easily do it. Getting into correct slow vertical speed with the slow fwd speed (the stall and fall away zone) area is the fun though. If your just about there and can increase the fall/fwd speed a small bit with led it will probably be pretty dooable to hold formation for a decent amount of time. Looking forward to seeing some of the stuff your teasing us about. Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  22. At least toss a few details out sooner. What was the canopy wing loaded at? Also guessing that the WS is the Stealth 2? Not a fly-By but how long was the formation sustained with the canopy? Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  23. ???? Does this have to do with the post you made about "Wingsuit flying & German laws" ????? "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
  24. Hey, what are you complaining about, you were in there for a few seconds.... Scott C. "He who Hesitates Shall Inherit the Earth!"
