Yeah. In English, only the second-person (you) form of imperatives can drop the pronoun. For the first-person plural, you need it. (As in "Let's go.") In French, you can always drop the pronoun. Allons (let's go), allez (y'all go, or you go), etc. ------------------- I think you are confusing the indicative with the imperative. The imperative does not have a first person form, it is a command that says, "GO!" or "DRIVE!". The indicative is the form that can drop the pronoun, as you pointed out, in the case of "allons-z" (the verb still cannot stand alone, though). When it comes down to it in french, there are far fewer times that you can truly drop the pronoun...not nearly as much as you can in Spanish or Italian. Come to think of it, I can't really think of any verb where you completely drop the pronoun and it can stand by itsself except for in the imperative. what law says that minors can't have sex?? as far as i know as long as both parties are minors their is not much you could do about it. now if one of the parties involved was of age eg 18 than it would become legal matters. ------------ Maybe someone can clarify, but I do believe that if both parties are under age there are legal ramifications for the male partner if one wants to pursue it. Don't know the technicalities. What I was talking about, though, is the fact that there is video tape of minors, which, regarless of your age, is not legal. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

Now we're talking about video of minors in the act...that's a legal issue, not one that should be handled by the school. Not saying that I wasn't guilty of wrong doings in high school, but sounds like they were lucky it wasn't turned over to the authorities. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

Well, she said "certain religious beliefs", which implies selectivity. --------------- I took that to mean selectivity of beliefs within religion, not selectivity of which religions are shown respect. I wouldn't do it because I know some people _would be very offended. ------------- That's really the issue here, that although we may not care, some people do. ----------------- As an aside, if you've read Kushiel's Dart, the author presents a thought-provoking "alternative history" in which a prophet (Eula) thinks that sex is a good thing, a sacrament of sorts. A religion very similar to christianity forms around his teachings, with some very noticeable differences. ------------------ This would be very different if we were talking about memebers of a congregation having sex in their church because it was an act involved in their worship or beliefs (Stranger in a Strangeland comes to mind as well). Each religion or mythology has its beleifs, and the issue is not having sex, it's doing something that is known to be deeply offensive. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

Why is one brand of mythology more deserving of respect than another? --------------- Nobody has said that this one should be respected and another shouldn't...I, personally, would consider it the same if it was done in the place of worship for Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Mormons, JW's, etc. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

now they have to put up with all the jokes and suspicions because their perverted comrades. --------------- I too feel sorry for the good ones, but then again, I don't think that they are having to put up with it because of the bad ones...I think it stems more from the handling of the whole situation by the church itsself. I don't know if how they have handled the situation is right or wrong. Though you could make a better case for it in a language like French, where "Allez" is both the verb and implies the subject (you, unfamiliar.) ------------------ The arguement still works in english, though...I can't think of the verb form, but it is basically a command, which implies a subject. So I guess that if you go to a church that doesn't have a building it doesn't count . ----------- I didn't say that at all. If they were to go to the side of a public lake and hold their services, when they were not there, then I would not consider having sex in that location to be disrespectful to them. If it is their property, though, whether under shelter or in open air, then I do think that it is disrespectful and wrong. -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...

And I disagree with your disagreement with my disagreement... You steal $20 from me, I really don't care much. You take my teddy bear that I grew up with that is not worth a dollar, that hurts. You burn a piece of cloth, that's not a big deal. You dye that piece of fabric red, white, and blue, and now you are evil. It doesn't matter what I think, or what you think, or what anyone else thinks about the building...it is sacred to these people, and is therefore disrespectful and hurtful. If the people on the radio agreed with you, they would not have had the church on the list. They knew that it would be shocking and that it would offend some. The "shock" in "shockjock" comes from poking at subjects that we normally consider to be out of bounds. They have to expect it to come back and bite them sometimes, which is what happened here. I'm glad they're in trouble. I'm not Catholic, and I'm all for priest jokes, etc. As far as I am concerned, they have brought it upon themselves...that's another story...there comes a point, though, where it's not that funny anymore, it's just a couple of people sitting in a room trying to think of how they can be as disrespectful as possible. You want cruel and unusual, use scissors...not sharp ones, though...the safety scissors they give to kindergarteners that you have to cut a piece of paper 5 or 6 times and it doesn't really cut clean cause the paper keeps wrapping around and getting pinched between the blades... :) -S _____________ I'm not conceited...I'm just realistic about my awesomeness...
