  1. I read that more counted ballots exist than registered voters in King county. This implies that more than 100% of all registered voters voted! Vote early and often --> ballot box stuffing?
  2. It's a good idea, but from a liability stance it is probably better for the first aid folks to have one of these in their kit. Anybody who has heart problems should buy one and let others know that an AED is nearby.
  3. The distortion of projectile dynamics was pure hollywood.
  4. Create another local admin account, i.e., a username with administrator privileges, login to it, and then go to Windows Update again.
  5. That $88.5M would entice many people to shelve the morals for the short term. Would you let a priest do his thing with you in a nice hotel room for the above sum?
  6. I hear you loud and clear. I was pretty low when I hit thirty due to the job environment rapidly changing in the San Jose, CA area with the technology industries. Fortunately, I didn't have a family depending on me at the time. I did lose almost everything though, but I kept my credit intact. When I made the decision to return to school, I had to let go of the last of my toys...and the girl friend moved on too; it was a great life experience! In school, I really wanted to study computer science, but I knew deep down that I was too old, so I went with civil engineering. While the job is personally rewarding, it is a dead industry right now with stagnating wages. The problem is that most civil projects are government driven, and the legions of poor are exhausting the funds. It won't get any better soon with the babyboom crisis looming. On the positive side, I'm very good at what I do, and my current position will never be outsourced. Now I'm forty eight, and back on my feet, but it also meant relocating far away from where I wanted to live. While I could have bought a larger home, I bought one that I could afford even if I had to work at the local Walmart. It is also within walking distance of a hospital, shopping, and work...should things get really tight. I guess I was lucky being knocked down when I was thirty rather than sixty. In closing, I trust very little these days and plan accordingly.
  7. Today, the middle class just hop on the 10 heading east and keep going until they reach an off ramp with a mortgage payment that they can afford, and that likely means east of the San Bernadino range!
  8. Here's our new spec home, $125k in eastern Washington state. $50k down, 30yr at 5.50apr means $425.84/month. Two kids and a stay at home mom...no sweat on $73K/yr. The same place in San Jose, CA where I grew up is $675k+, which is far more than a CalTrans civil engineer can afford.
  9. Our government provides a foundation for opportunity that doesn't exist in most places. You can't expect to get through life with a luddite outlook; don't have skills for today...then sign up for course work! Student loans, the schools, the jobs, the toys, etc., are all out there...just add effort. BTW, did you mean help, or carry for life?
  10. And where do your buyers get their money? Could you and your boyfriend or husband buy this house? I guess some young couples are just gifted $100K from their parents for the down payment, and they have a $3,250/per month payment for the balance, right? I'm an engineer, and I have a good gut feel for numbers, and yet I don't have any idea how a family in southern Calirfornia can make ends meet with the above numbers unless family wealth carries them because the local economy's paychecks can't do it.
  11. Both the east and west coast regions of the country have experienced considerable appreciation since interest rates are at a 40-yr low and the bursting stock market prompted many to put their money into housing. The biggest problem is that income has remained relatively flat during this same period, and when you combine this with the huge increase in Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARM) there will be many who will be unable to meet their obligations when the interest rates rise again. This fate is mainly going to fall on the younger less established people who are also going to be expected to digest huge tax increases to pay for the last days of the babyboom generation.
  12. If he is recognized as a foreigner he will be well photographed prior storage or disposal, and the photos will make it the Internet eventually.
  13. The breed has been around for a long time. Probably what we are seeing is tragedy being used for political gain at the expense of your freedom, which doesn't mean anything to someone seeking higher office. In the past the news media wasn't nearly so efficient.
  14. First, are you putting the card into a 32 or 64 bit PCI slot? If you are in fact using a 64 bit slot, then your Dell BIOS probably doesn't care for the card, so I'd go for a 32 bit PCI card from Adaptec.
  15. Wearing knee pads is easy, but rich men are often smarter than that, and eventually you'd become tired of the lifestyle. Most young men today know that you can't get anywhere on one income anymore, so they seek partners with a useful college degree not world religion. Y'all wanted equality...now sit down and study! And to answer the question, I graduated from CalPoly, SLO with a Civil Engineering degree, and I'm employed as a Civil Engineer. I set my sights on a target, and I pursued my goal without delay. Looking back, I'm glad that I spent 10-yrs moving around and working odd jobs between leaving the military and returning to college, experiences that my colleagues will never enjoy. The only regret is that I missed buying a home in California, and now they are priced way beyond reasonable terms.
  16. Dean, you need to get your parents involved, i.e., they should be financially supportive so that both they and you know that you have the latest and safest gear. It will go a long way in calming nerves all around, and provide you with an opportunity to advance your skills at a steady pace.
  17. It is very difficult to connect the threat that Iraq posed on the U.S. making the case for war. However, if you replace "U.S." with "Israel" in all these newspaper articles it makes perfect sense. Iran is now on a fast track toward weapons grade fissile material, and Israel's neighbors appear to be willing to destroy themselves if it will take Israel with them. My personal estimate is that Israel today faces its greatest danger to its future than ever before, and the pro Israeli neo-conservatives have now exhausted their benefactor's taste for middle east nation building and regime change.
  18. The powerful special interest groups will lobby for liabiliy exclusions eventually leaving only the average small business to shoulder the joint and several liability burden.
  19. Mr. Rumsfeld is a stooge for the pro-Israeli neo-conservative hawks such as Wolfowitz, Perle, Kristol, and Feith. Rumsfeld's war is not overseas, it is within the pentagon where he has made puppets of admirals and generals.
  20. It appears that as the canopy loses its kinetic energy it slows before the jumper does, and this increases the angle of incidence, which introduces yet more drag. Unfortunately, mass is a linear component of kinetic energy, so the addition of mass would yield a modest benefit. The introduction of depleted uranium projectiles was born of a desire for more kinetic energy at the distant end of the trajectory where reactive armor was found.
  21. Since the canopy tends to loose its kinetic energy before the pilot it would seem logical to add some mass to the canopy to increase the distance of the swoop. I can imagine that the dynamics involved during opening would be hard on the canopy. So, has anyone ever tried sewing some skinny shot bags along the chord of the loaded ribs starting from the nose of the canopy?
  22. Hey, we only consume about 40% of the world's resources...using borrowed money!
  23. If money isn't an issue then stop by a scuba dealer that stocks DUI drysuits and more specifically the one piece DUI long underwear, which are available in various weights with their heavier ones having an outer shell that is low-porosity so high speed air flow will not cut through. These work nicely and will keep you comfortable during extended flights in the wind tunnel during cooler moist evenings.
  24. Don't forget the falling dollar is adding to the bottom line!
