Tell me if its just me. I thought Crosswind would be the perfect compliment to a turkey dinner. How come no one else was as interested as I was? Its as if they didnt understand WHY someone would watch videos of people jumping out of "perfectly good" airplanes. Or maybe I should have done Good Stuff today and saved Crosswind until yule time. Well I like it better than football. How was your dinner? Johnny

The guy who makes them jumps regularly at the ranch so many there have it. I havent broken down yet but I hear nothing but good things about them. He makes 2 sizes, be sure to talk to him first. Johnny

I hope not. I know its horrible and all, I watched it happen but imho any canopy would have done the same with the same result. But just as everything else in this world someone was to pay. Johnny

I feel very competant in spotting from our otters. Ive only been out a casa once and the first thing I looked at was the ground. I am kinda surprised at the lack of spotting by many other jumpers. I see people getting out way to long when there are still plenty of people in the plane. People getting out on the go around. People just not knowing the winds or even looking at other canopies in the sky before they go. Also many people dont give enough thought to horizontal separation. I see some jumpers just count to 5 and jump out right over the last group. Scary stuff. Spotting is very important as long as you know what to look for and try not to hose the load. Johnny

someone with a round reserve just put themselves in the incident report because their reserve malfunctioned on opening. A give and take sort of thing Johnny

As it is now i do collapse it and loosen my chest strap. Im lot looking to surf, just the best flight characteristics. Do the triple risers bring with them any inherant problems? I just dont want to pull the slider over the 2" only to see it wont go down all the way and cause some sort of problem. Thanx for the input everyone. Johnny

I bought my first canopy here in dz.com. I worked it out with the guy selling it. He told me if I wasnt into it to send it back. He wasnt going to sell me something I wasnt happy with. That same canopy is for sale in the classifieds and I will do the same for anyone who wants it!!! (shameless plug) Its a pd210 by the way (buy it buy it buy it) Talk to the seller of whatever your interested in. Most likely they will work with you to sell their stuff. I would like to think the majority of us arent crooks. Johnny

Usually the people who want more beer are too drunk to remember who brought what beer. Also an important note...I dont drink and this didnt occur to me but I brought the beer to the dz one day and by sunset it was vanquished by those who were not even jumping with me at the time of sed offenses. So .... hide the beer and give it to those who deserve it. Also did you do your whole post and capitalize the first letter of every word? Does that mean you are emphasizing the first syllibal of every word? Johnny

Does anyone fly a moderatly loaded canopy (over 1.2:1) and pull the slider down to the rings. I know it creates less drag and lets the lines spread out more. Does it make any noticable difference in flight or landing? I have 2" risers right now so pulling it down isnt to convienient. I was thinking of switching to 1". I'd like to get every bit of performance out of my safire209. ...clintonradloff Johnny

I'm not sure what the ad for the cobalt says but Im pretty sure their selling point for low timers was that a lightly loaded cobalt makes a good first canopy. If they made a cobalt around210 or 190 it would probably fit their criteria. But a wing of that design at your loading will probably not give you much of a learning curve or room for error. Good luck in whatever choice you make and be safe. Johnny

I've been told that dm218 is more like 200. either way I made my choice of pd's reserve. The 176 is the one for my j4. And if I ever go to a j3 the 176 will fit there too(tight). I also wouldnt want 2 canopies of extremly different sizes. Anything is acceptable as long as the choices being made are logical and thought out ones rather than" make that sale, gete me in the air" rash decisions. Johnny

I would consider myself a good canopy pilot. I have 130 jumps. I fly with the risers, front and rear a whole lot. I work on flare, stall and braked turns on every jump. Even if its a point in the grass I work on accuracy when surrounding conditions permit. I am 200 w/o gear and feel great an my new safire 209. On reason I wont go smaller is the change would force me to a smaller reserve and I am already very wary of having a 176 f-111 7 cell over my head in a bad situation. I see people with more jumps just focusing on freefall because the can land standing up. I ask do you use your front risers a lot and they say what for? Its not just hook turns that are canopy killers anymore. Collisions and hp malfunctions are taking back the top spot in that incident report. Maybe this person is that good to be considering that sort of canopy. But its my experience that a dz will push certain gear and play the odds that they will be ok, or just say, "hey a jumper has to make up their own mind and look out for #1" What reserve would be in that rig that holds a 150sq' canopy? How slow can you land it? Fly what you want but remember Its not just yourself that you could be putting in harms way. Its everyone in the air with you at any given moment. How many jumps do you plan on making in your career? There will always be time to move down and have more fun. If your current canopy isnt fast enough try to make it fly faster, or slower, whatever. Explore all aspects of the wing you are on. Not just 20 jumps and say " I'm ready for more than this."None of this is meant to insult just to provoke thought. Johnny

Id probably say "god dammit, that faker is f*ing up my skydive!!!" No, I to would go for the ol' silver. They say its your last chance canopy and this is probably their last chance. How do you deploy them stable? Try to go under them to force them belly to earth until they are pulled from your hands? Johnny
-
Makes the risers fit nicer on the side of the rig also.

VX 60??? What are you still on student status?? Johnny

Im sure you could find a mp3 player about the size of say my pro track!! We could turn skydiving into driving though... too many distractions for some feeble minds to handle Johnny

You wont see it yet but I saw chuck blue and many others on the ranch pond swooping video. Some wacky exits you guys did!

I agree with picking up an f-111 for a first canopy, its what I did, easy packing and low cost factor. But I am moving up. I bought it on dz.com so it will soon be for sale on dz.com. (is this a plug?) Its a pd 210 in great shape. Look for it soon in a classified section near you!!! Johnny

It fired after the reserve had been deployed already because she was still falling through 750ft (or there abouts) and doing over 78mph or whatever. At least thats what I got from it. Johnny

I jumped w/ Rod twice this year. He's already in space!!! He'll do it for sure. He has to he was born to tell stories and this will be a doosey!! Johnny

Looks to me like Ive been on some "imaginary" freefly jumps lately. Wonder if I should see a doctor about these dillusions.
-
If 2 freefliers were on a load and neither had a camera, did the jump actually take place? Hmmmmm..... Did the jump take place no, of course not yes it did

You just dont read about it in the paper because it doesnt make headlines. Its not the news the pc hungry media wants to exploit. Dig for some real news and i'd be appauled if you didnt vomit at the sight of what goes on and doesnt make the "news".
