I flew it on sunday, btu only did one hnp from 13.5. So far they only have a 99, which is a bit small for me, I fly a 104 VX. It opened real slow with the slider staying half way up. It had light front riser pressure which I didnt care for much. The decent rate seemed about the same as my VX. It seemed to have a shorter recovery arc. The toggle range seemed shorter than my VX but slightly more responsive. The rears kept the forawrd drive but didnt give as slow a decent rate as my VX. Thats what I got but like I said I did only one jump. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

My GF just got her new rsk.5 and thinks the handles are too big for girls hands. They are kinda bulky. I like Mirages handles but have had no problems with my original javy ones. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I was willing to do it for free but they paid me after the fact. I thought it was expensive until the day after I did it. And my visiion wasn't even horrendous ie could function without glasses. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

It's funny you should mention that, thats exactly how 2 of the jumpers got on the list. One of them has wised up, one hasn't. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Yes it does. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

The Omega is still being produced. The Omni is "higher performance" than the omega, but still just a 7 cell lightly elliptical canopy. The Omega is geared more towards newer jumpers. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

300 is a lot. I've sent them back for a reline with less. 200 jumps and about 5 inches out of trim (4 inches more than PD says is tolerable) is my best so far. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

straight vs. cascaded lines
johnny1488 replied to livenletfly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I used it on my own brake lines and didnt like the way it wore. Seemed to pull through itself over time. Dont know how to explain it better but I didnt like the way it looked. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
try this on your rig Assemble the 3 rings without putting the white loop through the grommet on the end of the housing. Just put the loop through the riser grommet and put the yellow cable through that. Hold the riser up and you will see it stays assembled. Now let the riser fall to the floor like when the canopy hits the ground. With no grommet holding the housing close to the canopy, the housing and the cable will likely stay pointed up and when the riser falls the 3 rings will likely seperate. I'm gonna definetly go with what Rob said. I saw it happen to a jumper at The Ranch last year. He had hooked up his own main and not put the white loop through the grommet on the end of the cable housing. When he landed and the canopy hit the ground, the yellow cable slid out of the loop and the 3 rings fell apart. Sounds like the same happened to you. johnny1488 replied to johnny1488's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
For information on The Ranch Pond Swoop Meet, being held at The Blue Sky Sanch in Gardiner NY on September 23rd-25th, you can email RanchPondSwoop@mac.com. Same as always, 8 rounds, definetly getting wet, and Cash Prizes. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
Well Sonic would say his daddy is Phil Contorno. 96 Pond swoop champion (the very first) and one of the first front riser turners people had seen here at the Ranch (from what I've been told). He was also swooping the pond back in 93 or 94 before there was even water in it. Check out the Hookin It DVD for some real throwback footage. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Ranch Pond swoop meet possible date change
johnny1488 replied to johnny1488's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
So whos afraid of getting wet in september? After speaking with drop zone management, I am considering changing the dates for this years pond swoop meet. It was originally supposed to be held in the weekend of august 18th-21st. Its real close to nationals and the world meet. How would those interested feel about September 22nd-25th? Its after nationals ends and the CPC finals. Or is everyone reluctant to get wet for large quantities of cash. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome -
Hey Brian, havent seen you for a while. The end cells are usually a result of a slow opening, usually not a bad thing. As far as the line tiwst go, it can happen to anyone. Usually it can result from turning one way and then another or just a hard turn to one side. It probably came from the canopy turnong faster then your body could. I dont know if you know shelby but he put himself in linetwists last year below 1000 feet. Luckily everythin was fine but it could have been disasterous. Hope to see you at the DZ soon. ps leave the wind and rain at home. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

How often do you do three-ring maintenance?
johnny1488 replied to LuvToFly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I started rigging this winter and have seen (almost without exception) that the cutaway cables are excessively dirty. I have mentioned it to people and said they should clean their cables when they flex their 3 rings and they look at me funny. I would imagine that most jumpers simply dont do this and expect their riggers to do all the service their gear needs. I put a not on the work order of rigs that had dirty cables to make sure the jumper knows about the maintenance. Helps me remember who is who. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" There is nothing unsafe about front riser turns under a Safire. I watched Max Cohn swoop the crap out of his Safires when he was jumping them. Your friends "in the know" are mistaken. If you really are in this for the long haul, then get out there and jump, get the coaching and experience and get a Xfire when you are ready for it. 300 more jumps should be nothing to someone who is motivated and hungry to learn. And in that time you can gain the awareness and know how on a more forgiving canopy that will save your life one day. Believe me when i tell you that a Safire is better suited to help you learn to swoop. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

I've done a couple of events for them so far and we are working on getting something more permanent going. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome

Well I'll be at the convention this year and I was at the Holiday boogie also and I turned away anyone who was tring to demo a crossfire2 under 500 jumps. I also pretty much insisted that anyone who wanted to demo a canopy do so on the same size they were currently jumping first. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
-
Let me smoote over what Dave said a bit. If you try to buy a crossfire2 from an Icarus dealer, you are probably going to find it a bit difficult. If you like the Safire2, keep jumping it. It sounds like you want the Crossfire2 because you might want to do some high performance flight? You could probably learn just as much if not more at your stage on a canopy like the Safire2 while keeping yourself in a less dangerous environment. The Crossfire2 is a lot less forgiving of mistakes, especially at the size and loading you are suggesting. If you have more specific questions. feel free to shoot me a PM. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about these canopies, I have close to 500 jumps on both. Johnny --"This ain't no book club, we're all gonna die!" Mike Rome
