  1. Could Be. Foolish remarks. Not worthy of reply. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  2. explanation, please? -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  3. that's not true. drug tests can tell how much has been ingested. for instance if you drink 6 or more beers and take a breathalizer 5 minutes later, surely you will blow a .80 or more but take the same test 6 hours later and the level will drop like an anvil. on the other hand, a ua does the same thing, the concentration level will be higher if the ingestation has been more recent, rather than 2 weeks ago. time is the only thing that will cause the concentration level to drop. these tests have been refined over the years to improve accuracy and to guard the employer against a civil law suit. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  4. there are an awful lot of US citizens who do not realize how vulnerable we are when it comes to energy. if terroist wanted to shut down the USA they wouldn't even waste their time bombing this and bombing that, they would simply take out our energy supplies and storage facilities. this is a big concern in the top brass in the white house right now. i watched oil storm, i thought it was prophetic more than anything. if all of those chain reaction events were to happen at once, the result would be what they potrayed. i still remember the gas line during the arab oil embargo, they are still fresh in my mind. don't think the events they potrayed can't happen here. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  5. what are you guys trying to do? get this thread locked and your post deleted? c'mon now, cut it out. the original intent of this topic was to get a general idea of how everyone felt about random ua's. not to flame each other for their ideas and beliefs. everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and feelings about this subject. i expressed mine, and i expected some scorching, which i recieved. fact of the matter, in the future every job you will apply for if it involves a major company, law enforcement will require a ua at the time prior to hiring, in the event you are directly involved in an incident, or the computer spits your name out. random ua's are fair. i'm not buying this poppy seed BS, i could eat 6 of them and still pass a ua. that is nothing more than a cop-out. when i take my ski boat to the lake in sommerville, texas or lake travis in austin the army corp of engineers observe the people who operate the water craft constantly, they even have new tools to monitor alcohol levels. i have seen boats confiscated, along with the trailers. but, that's right, it's recreation, not work so that shouldn't apply right? never mind an impaired individual could surely kill an innocent person following the rules. but it's purely recreational, so i'm sure if some one were to make this arguement they would get a get out of jail free card, without the possibility that no one will sue you in a civil court as well. i am surprised at how many of us are against random ua's. what this tells me is there are more dopers in the sky than i originally thought. hey, long and short of it why would anyone who has nothing to hide refuse a ua? i can't imagine it. the ladies and gentlemen that work for energy companies, including myself are subjected to ua's constantly, yeah we lose a few now and then, but no matter how good a worker they are we cannot take the chance they will be uti and be a factor in an LTA, FA, NM or maybe even a fatality. like it or not, ua's are coming to sky diving community eventually. do you love the sport enough to submit, or not. illicit substances are illegal. the law is the law, like it or not. if you consider yourself a law abiding respectable USA citizen, obey the laws, simple enough, right? let's not feed the ambulance chasers. they already make enough money the way it is. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  6. Asked, and answered. Shouldv'e done a poll. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  7. Can't believe it....12 of 15. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  8. No one would be allowed to come to my home in an official capacity to just "Have a look around" without the proper documentation, don't get me wrong. But no, i don't have a problem with that. As i've said, this original post is continuing to get "Off Topic" it's not about "Big Brother" and who's going to come knocking on the doors to our homes. Don't judge me, i won't judge you, O.K.? -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  9. Send the rig to the original manufacturer. They will get you to fill out a measurement form. Then the design engineer will suggest a harness size for you. Last time i know this happened it costs a friend of mine $400.00 + S&H to have a new harness put in a rig he bought used, well a year old. But he still came out money wise, which is the objective i'm sure? Good Luck. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  10. I have very close ties with the law enforcement officials in my town, and county. I have law enforcement officials in my home all the time. And no, i would have no problem with anyone coming to my home. I have absolutely nothing to be paranoid about. This thread is getting off track. The original question was simply would you, or would you not submit to a random ua. How it expanded into "Big Brother" and all of this other complete BS is beyond me. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  11. That's very odd. I've been in the petroleum industry for over 25+ years. I've taken at least 3 dozen drug tests, never any "false positives" no problems at all. The drill crews and other service hands are actually allowed xx nanograms etc...as administration representation for the company i work for it's "Zero Tolerance" for me. The current testing procedures and protocol, equipment etc...it would be pretty hard to screw up. Then if you refuse a urine test, you can always opt for blood to be drawn. I don't understand the retincy of the individuals in these forums to submit to drug testing. I can only deduce that refusal is an admission of guilt, and it is considered so in my profession. No test, no job. In any event, i just wanted to "check the pulse" as it were to see "who's who" If i were to take a drug test today they would find nothing more than DaSani drinking water. After all, recreation or not, would we want to board a jumpship with a "Stoned Pilot?" I think not. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  12. The 2 responses i've gotten so far, both posters have failed to answer the question i asked. Would you submit to a random drug screen, yes or no? I think we can all agree that sky diving is a high performance sport. What incited my question was if drug testing was mandatory would you be willing to undego a random drug screen. In the NFL, NBA, Pro baseball, Olympics, NasCar etc the tests are random and some very talented athletes have lost their jobs because of a failure to pass a drug screen. All drug screens come with a form, you write down all of the prescription drugs you are taking that way the screeners already know what you are alr taking. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  13. In light of Busch & Nextel Cup driver Shane Hmiel's indefinite suspension for his second failure to pass a drug test in as many years, would anyone here be opposed to submitting to random drug testing if it was ever imposed on us as sky divers? This came to my mind because sky diving is a sport just like NasCar, and it's just as, if not more dangerous. I have personally seen drugs on DZ's. Personally i don't care for it. Even though i choose to not do drugs doesn't mean others will not do them. How do you feel about "Sharing The Sky" with someone who "may" be UTI of some type of illicit substance? And would you submit to a random drug screen? I would submit, and i don't care to share the sky with someone whom i think could or may be UTI. What do ya'll think? -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  14. Oh....believe me, i'm pretty sick about it. The truck isn't even 3 weeks old. BUT, Jonathan is allright. I can fix the vehichle easier and quicker than i can fix him had he been injured. But that said, i really wished i would have videoed the incident, the look on Jonathan's face when i started screaming "You just ran into my brand new f#@%^ng truck!" which was bad because i was instantly more worried about the truck than Jonathan. For which i felt very bad about later. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  15. Well...........here's where it gets complicated. His wife (my daufgter-in-law) and his mother (my wife) are BOTH blaming me for the whole incident. To answer your question....NO. He has never driven a dirt bike. BUT....when he was young and growing up i bought him numerous three whellers and four wheelers, so i thought "No Big Deal?!" Right? WRONG......BIG DEAL. After much after thought, i would have never allowed this until some coaching from a professional. I took it for "Granted" he could handle a high powered dirt bike, i was wrong. Even though he did slam into my brand new truck, i am glad he's o.k. It would be a BITCH to survive Iraq, only to come home and be killed by an accident like this. I take full responsability. moral of the story: "Just when you think you've seen it all" You really haven't. This could have been tragic for both of us. Thank God It Wasn't. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  16. I'm glad i wasn't testing the helmet cam at the time or i would have been seriously injured. I'm still in disbelief! i can't believe the whole thing happened. It ruined my plans for the whole day. BUT....my sons OK, that's ALL that matters. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  17. This morning i had full intentions of going skydiving and trying out my new sky diving helmet i bought from Steve Phelps. I worked really hard putting the helmet together to fit my camera. I was stoked about going to sky dive aggieland today and trying it out! my son, Jonathan, and his wife, Ann came down last night with my 10 month old grandson J.G. (Jonathan Gregory) We went to bed early last night to get plenty of rest for the day today. We get up early this morning and my wife's boss calls me up and says "Hey richard, i've got a 2004 450 CC Honda dirt bike in my garage that's really getting on my nerves, can you come and get it?" No Freaking Problem!
  18. Marc: I see what your saying, but imho you shouldn't have to explain why, and how much you pay (or have paid) to anyone. as long as your following the final divorce decree and the court's orders, it wouldn't matter if it were $2.00 a month. I was never delinquent either, but i was mailing my payments to the AG's office in Austin, Texas for years. they always have such a heavy case load and have for years. this sometimes caused the payment to get to my ex late. after 14 years it caused quite a problem for me. Good on you Marc. i'm glad to see that at least one of us fathers "got it right" Take Care, God Bless and good luck to you and yours. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  19. That it most certainly is. This has been a well known fact for many years, some just seem to ignore it for their own personal reasonings. Well Rob, yes it can. It has been as much disputed by one certain person in this thread. It is my opinion that this person is in a state of denial for what ever the reason. But, fact is a fact, a duck is a duck and a spades a spade, so on and so forth. Blues my brother!
  20. WOW! that is the biggest woman i've ever seen. imagine being involved with her, it would be bad to have a woman kick that ass! -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  21. Red was hardly "Filthy Mouthed" i never heard him utter a single profanity.
  22. You so artfully dodged this comment. Face it, the courts favor women. As far as african americans are considered, i can't speak about that because i have no real personal knowledge of those situations. The ones i commented about in my post, i do. My ex-wife married a loser, they have nothing they never have and never will. She now has such a bad taste in her mouth because i "Made It" and she has a junk yard in her back yard. Classic remark. But face it, wrong is wrong, i'm just trying to do everything in my power to see to it that no other father has to go through what i went through. If that doesn't set well with you, i am sorry. -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  23. Rudy Ray Moore was truly gited in his craft. But to be aware of him, you would have to have just "Been There" a lot of people aren't even aware of Rudy. We used to listen to him offshore in the 70's, man he was a scream! -Richard- "You're Holding The Rope And I'm Taking The Fall"
  24. Actually, IMHO there are more divorced mothers out there than divorced fathers that aren't worth 2 cents, the divorced fathers for the most part do what the court orders them to do in the final divorce decree. I mean, it's easy do it, or go to jail. Why is this NOT imposed on the divorced mothers? I know of quite a few (more than 2 dozen cases where the divorced fathers did do the right thing, me included) paid the support, even bought seasonal clothes and toys (which the "Court" deems as "Gifts") for years on end only to have the mother come back when the youngest is 16 or so and sue for one thing or another. My case is a horror story, i hate to even disscuss it, it's that painful. In the cases i stated, all of the divorced fathers did the right thing. Divorced mothers on the other hand all too often use the children as a "Tool, or Leverage" to get more $$$ or just plain agravate the shit out of the divorced father. If i had a dime for every time i went to get my kids on my weekend visitation and they were not there, i would not have to work anymore. Even though i filed numerous complaints in the county in which she lived, they would do nothing to her. The guy my ex-wife married in 1986 has NEVER had a job, go figure. Rob & Marc are right, the family court is a JOKE. It's so obviously one sided it's not even funny, it's actually pathetic. It makes me physically sick.
