Static Line in New England in the late fall. I did about 12 S/L jumps because the weather made me noncurrent for a few months a couple of times. Why not AFF? Because there was no AFF back then. Probably a question for a rigger, but has anyone ever thought of using a slink for this vice a metal connector link? Supposedly they are stronger and not sure, but it would seem possible that the metal link could cause damage while moving around, being packed, and situations like that. Probably not a big factor, but would be slightly lighter and smaller. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

This exact situation can also occur on an RW jump where someone goes low, "decides" he can't make it back in, and tracks off from some insanely high altitude. If that person then decides he has surely tracked far enough away from the group and pulls at or a little higher altitude than planned, he has put the entire group in jeopardy. If you go low on RW, you have to keep trying to get back in. If nothing else, the heads up skydivers on the load will at least know where you are at break-off time. If you remain low throughout the whole jump, then when you track away, you have to pull no higher than your personal lowest altitude. If you pull higher, the opportunity exists for someone else in the formation to track through your deploying canopy. I believe one of our brothers is no longer with us because this exact situation occurred on a big-way attempt. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Sunday at the Daytona 500 a GK team jumped in. They did a hop 'n pop with about eight people. I guess I'm jaded from having seen Ian, Shannon, and Rixter at Deland, but I thought it was kinda boring. Big Ass Chutes doing accuracy. I was really surprised at the others in attendence, though. I figured they would be pretty impressed, but instead the 'necks around me were all, "Hurry up so we can see Junior!" I understood booing Mariah Carey ("We want Faith Hill!"), but not appreciating the Knights? People, go figure. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
