Never having been in a big way, I have some questions which might be obvious to those who have: How big are the guys in the base and are they wearing weights? Fall rate in MPH? Sixteen hours, but...got to Deland early and the winds were up around 20 - 24. Less than 200 jumps and you weren't. Commiserated with Derekbox because he couldn't jump (commiserate, rub in, it's a fine line) then went and lurked a German three-way out of the Skyvan. On deck, no one to jump with, so I left and went to Skydive Palatka. On the load with PLFXpert and BillyZ. They freeflew (Is that a word?) and I was doing RW with the boys from the shortbus (Our motto: The sooner you funnel, the more time you have to rebuild.). Three jumps two dropzones, one day. 200 miles on my car. Florida, nothing but options. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

The worst I ever did was the dumbest I ever did. Did a 180 riser turn and saw I was coming out of it high, so I grabbed double fronts to keep the dive going. I erred when I failed to release the double fronts and hit the ground like that. Luckily, a large, bearded, Eric-person (Chuck knows him) was there to offer his condolences; "What the fuck are you doing?" were his exact words, I believe. But I know they were said with nothing but love. Knocked the wind out of me, pulled a muscle in my leg (never figured that one out), and ripped my jumpsuit. No more jumping that day, but was at it again the next week. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.

Jumped in Lake Wales last Wednesday and Skydive Palatka on Saturday and Sunday. Plan to do Deland this Saturday and, possibly, Palatka on Sunday, depending on other "relative work" I have to do. Been jumping in north Florida and it has been cool in the mornings and warming up during the day. Avg temperature is low/mid 50 in the AM and up to high 60's/low 70's. Last Saturday was cloudy and overcast (2 H&P's and one trip to altitude), but that hasn't been the norm. In general, it has been clear as a bell. On climbs to altitude we have seen both the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. Winds have been light, again, except for last Saturday. In general, come on down, the wx is much better than in Ohio, but bring some long sleeve stuff for the evenings. Shit happens. And it usually happens because of physics.
