  1. Who said I went to bed? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  2. To be honest, there is very little communism to be found in China today. More can certainly be fond in the US. But it is what one would call a form of "enlightened despotism", as it is indeed a one party rule (as was Taiwan for almost 50 years). One could debate (in Speaker's Corner) however, whether such political system isn't the best option to face China's current issues... And you are right, I hear of many government sponsored programs bringing people to China to teach English (which is compulsory in school). Americans are well liked by Chinese, dating back to the Nixon years. 3. I can't help you with feedback on teaching English here, but I have been living in China for almost 2 years and am having a fantastic time.
  4. I think we tend to make ourselves more important than we actually are. If most UAE residents don't give a shit if Americans (or Serbians, Luxembourgeois or Andorrians for that matter) get kiiled is because they are... not UAE peeps. If someone from the UAE gets killed most anywhere around the world, I doubt the average American (or Serbian, blahblahblah...) really gives a shit. Not because the poor UAE dude is a "fidel", but because he ain't no American (or .....). 5. Praise the good lord, finally someone understands Cuba's purpose on earth!!!

  7. To the sport's credit, it probably has the most drastic rules against doping, hence the higher probability that someone gets busted. If such rules were to apply to many other professional sports, people would fall like flies as well. This said, I hope this year is the height of the therapy, and that the Tour can somewhat come back clean (or cleaner) next year. It is one of the greatest, most demanding sporting event in the world, and deserves to be around for a long time. 8. I say boycott Dubai AND the US, since money involved with the 9/11 events can be traced to banks in both countries. I say buy Chinese. You know for sure the money won't go to AQ. It is time to make a stand, people! "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  9. Indeed quite shameful (and comical in a sad way). Although I wonder if most other countries would fare better. I think we tend to over estimate the cultural level of the average human being. "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  10. Probably a Turbo charged VW Beetle with a "Russian Arm" mounted on the roof. Great toys for these kind of shots. There is definitely a crane, and a stabilized head. The chase car is probably not going that fast, but driving in a smaller circle inside the arch of the hero car. Crane arm and stab head are then doing the work, making it look like the chase car is right behind the lead car. 11. The hotel is quite nice, very clean, and frequented mostly by Kiwis (go figure!). Right on the boardwalk at the border of Venice Beach and Santa Monica, minutes walk from restaurants and bars (including where we met last time), and a couple of clubs. 14. Or the theories surrounding JFK's assassination. Word in the street is that he actually WAS assassinated...
  15. Regardless, he is worth as much as the red button he has (for now) control over. Musharraf is still in power because he can walk a fine line: remaining friendly to the West, while being soft enough on the extremists so that their cause doesn't spread to the more moderate casts, then the general population. We could probably push him to go further, but it would amount to raising the ante in terms of whose bitch the red button really is. Many people do not want to take the risk of finding out they were standing on the wrong side of a missile... 16. Promises, promises... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  17. I wonder what internet forums would have looked like when some alarmist (probably with a "political agenda") first hinted that tobacco smoking/chewing could have negative health effects... 18. Does that mean you are not pregnant? "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  19. Au contraire... Sending troops is obviously a major foreign policy blunder, when sending few ladies of little virtue would surely single handedly take care of the suicide bombing issue.

The world is then wondering how removing a secular dictator, thus creating a power vacuum now being exploited by the fundamentalists, is considered as fighting Muslim extremism? I believe your statement holds true in many other instances, but I reckon the situation in Iraq is not one of them. 21. In one way, you're right, however, the difference is in doctrine too. China may not have a problem losing 500M people in an exchange. 400 is more than enough to eliminate the population centers of the US. And then the question arises: why would they do so? If they went through the steps of getting a BASE rig, then trust me, they did their homeworks. And determined that for the 99.999999% of the world population which does not BASE jump, the shot looked better using some other equipment (or it was safer shot, whatever the reasoning was). "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  23. Ouch ! I tried to throw a stone but it fell on my foot. you should take on bowling never mind... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  24. Let's say you have the winning bid. The seller asks to get paid. You refuse. That will certainly get you suspended by eBay. Unless eBay deals with the fraud in record times, there is a chance you'll be flagged in their system before the seller is. Then good luck having them reverse the flag... "For once you have tasted Absinthe you will walk the earth with your eyes turned towards the gutter, for there you have been and there you will long to return."
  25. I think you are mixing two different issues: a home and an investment. Buying a home is fairly risk free (barring earthquakes, hurricanes, mudslides, etc...) decision. However, an investment, by definition, comports risks. If you buy a "home", then ask yourself whether you could spend the rest of your life living there, regardless of most unforeseen events. If you decide to invest, the perimeters should be different. Sometimes, one can combine both. But most of the time, those with big returns are the ones who thought about the "home" factor ahead of the investment factor. And happened to buy in a neighborhood which appreciated. Quick return is risky. If you can stick it out for many years, you may be able to outlast the shelter, and turn in a profit. I bought a house I loved in 1998, in a supposedly "gang infested neighborhood." (hence the purchase price was low). It has appreciated 150% over the years. Anyway, WTF am I doing talking investments when I should be drinking more wine (and staring at these 10 year old Apple shares in my drawer...)
