Why are skydiving helmets so ridiculously, unreasonably expensive?!
piisfish replied to bertusgeert's topic in The Bonfire
because if they were cheap, you would always question yourself (and us) on the protection factor of your cheap helmet. They are expensive for your peace of mind -

I don't understand it as a compensation. I understand it as 750 ft flat or tumbling 1000ft stable on your back very different to me scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

-did Adrian Nicholas meet Cypres firing parameters ? YES or NO ? -were these speeds imaginable when the original Cypres was invented ? YES or NO ? -were the firing parameters written in the manual ? YES or NO ? -did the jumpers read the manual and fly accordingly ? YES or NO ? -did Airtec try (a bit too late) to cater to such jumpers ? YES or NO ? edited to add : call me Cypres Fan if you want, I have my reasons... But I also now believe that some competitors are as good as the Cypres as long as they are operated within their parameters. I just don't like too many parameters of the Vigil, it is personal, and for the moment the Argus seems to be a very good unit, but still need to get a better cutter (still just my opinion) scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

Is there a list of USPA DZ's where AAD's are mandatory ? scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
-
Yes, but pulling handles and stuff while make memories for us when we will be old farts like half the age of Twardo, and we will have more interesting things than "remember when in 2012 XXX jumper got his feelings hurt by the DZO..." to write in the "scary old stories" thread scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

the jumper met the AAD firing parameters, and the AAD worked as written in the manual. Later in time, the manufacturer issued a new version of the AAD in order to cater to a growing population of FAST canopy pilots. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

we have a subtle mix of VSE Infinity's and RI Telesis and a nice Talon FX Reserves are PD-R or Icarus Reserve Mains are IIRC Silhouettes and Safire 2's AAD's are Cypres2, student or expert depending on the rig. scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
