My family receives a discount for being a long term customer with an agent with State Farm. A few years ago when I opened a policy solely under my name, the agent gave me the same discount my parents and siblings receive. I have yet to find another company that will beat my current rates. Not sure if that helps, but I really like state farm.

Don't wait 9 months. If you really think you want to have it permanently inked on you - then ask a few people you really trust what they think. Discuss it with them and then make your decision. As others have stated, don't put it somewhere visible in a professional environment. A couple of the people I work with "accidentally" saw my tattoo - and guess what? a) they think it's cool (or so they say) and b) they NEVER would have guessed I had one. I guarantee you not all of my co-workers would react the same way and I would probably be taken less seriously in the future if a few 'higher ups' had seen it. I already have age working against me. Don't wait until you have 500 jumps either. I think skydiving stays with you wether you are an active jumper or not. If you're comfortable with it and all the criticism you may or may not receive - DO IT.

I keep a scale under my bed. If I start to feel 'heavy' I'll weigh myself and compare it to the last time I stepped on the scale - just to keep myself in line... Never a good idea to step on the scale everyday.
